I thought Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney both did an excellent job with their opening remarks, but as much as Bennie was on point and compelling out of the gate, he kind of lost me in the second half. I realize that as the chair he'll get to speak more than most, but I really hope he's finished is "segment" and others will get a chance to lead the questioning in future rounds. I don't have this issue with Cheney (as much as I have other issues with her).
These hearings are written like a research paper. Last night was essentially the opening paragraph. They told us what's going to be in each of the body paragraphs (nights of te hearings), and gave a few tasty teasers. I'm guessing that they have some serious dirt.

The thing is though, these hearings are designed to persuade those who, for one reason or another, haven't yet made up their minds about the significance of the January 6th insurrection. The committee is hoping to sway that small percentage of the American voting public with an eye towards the midterm elections later this year.
I think they should have gone bigger in Episode 1, to grab attention and get people to come back for the rest of the miniseries. I don't think that Ivanka's Zoom filter was enough to get people to tune in for the rest.
