Use the green rectangle in the tool bar.  

Upload > Choose file > Upload > Insert file

hammer, these are the maximum image files sizes:

1200 x 1200 pixels
up to .75 Mb
We can post .png, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg

What sizes are the ones you're working with? Are you trying to post the image from a phone? Some people have reported difficulties with that. I wonder if lava has any ideas?
