Yeah living in the SF Bay Area, I never get sticker shock when traveling. Not in New York, London, Paris, or anywhere else I have been (except maybe Switzerland).
When I lived in Texas in 1976 a guy I worked with remarked to me when I told him I was from California: "Prices there are higher than a geese's pussy."
I got a chuckle out that phrase, buy he was right about the cost of living at the time. I found things like food, shelter and gasoline were cheaper in 1976 Texas. Of course, doing the same kind of work for less pay was also the norm. It might even be the same today.
After my experience in Lubbock, I'd gladly pay the extra expense, though. It only took me a few weeks to figure out Texas was not a good fit for me and as soon I made enough dough, I was on a bus back home.
