Left-over material from The Grateful Dead Movie footage from Winterland.  At over 16 minutes a generous slice of psychedelic jazz goodness and the final single drummer performance of Dark Star.  Jerry is doing some trippy noodling and gesturing, Phil looks like he slaughtered a mink for his bass strap, Bobby and Keith are adding some nice textures, and Billy is on fire.

Here's audio of the whole show:

Awesome thanks

Gold! Thank you.

Wasn't this part of the bonus footage of the GD Movie DVD?

You are correct, Joe.  I never bought the new DVD or Blu-Ray versions, so this is the first time I've seen this.

Around 15 years ago I was at a party at the Fillmore in SF celebrating the release of the DVD. They showed the movie on a big screen and blasted it through the venue speakers.

It was a great way to see & hear the movie, but I'd seen it many, many times so I enjoyed the party more than the movie itself.

There was some live jibber-jabber from some folks about the new DVD and they announced that after the main movie they would run a bonus to the DVD with all the other songs, over an hour's worth, and when they played that it was almost scary.

I didn't know what was going to be played and I'd never heard any of it before, and the music coming through the PA at full DBs sounded just like it would if the band was live on stage. I was pretty well lubricated, and when I closed my eyes I was able to easily imagine I was at a live Grateful Dead show at the Fillmore. For over an hour they were back, and I was transfixed. It was kind of an incredible experience, and a bit emotional.

In the 26 years I've been going to events at the Fillmore I've had MANY great experiences in that room, and that one still stands out.

I remember thinking, "Damn, I've gotta' get a stereo like this."
