The Q 11-30-2001

Forums:

Driving to the office this morning and While My Guitar Gently Weeps comes on the playlist.  I don't know why or what triggered it but I am immediately teleported back to the Beacon Theatre when Phil and the boys played it for the first time (day after George Harrison passed).  I can feel it.  I can smell it.  I am there.  The hair stands up on my arms.  I can remember the whole night - even going to Gray Papaya for hot dogs and Orange Julius right after the show.  I can taste it.  I am so grateful for the memories and the advantures we had.  what a show.  what a night!

Nice post, Bobstar. 2001 was such a great year for GD music, pretty much from start to finish. I remember reading about this show at the time, and getting CDs of it a few weeks later, and thought the WMGGW was super powerful as the meat in a Dark Star sandwich. Also, it  was really good hearing them finally bust out Tears of a Clown after teasing it at so many shows.

Phil played 7 shoes at the Beacon in November/ December of 2001.
This was my favorite! 12/2 was my second fav!  The whole Beacon shoe run was special!!

The Q was the best post Jerry, Dead/Jam music period. How lucky were we to get that for 3+ years and then a few special shows after. I saw probably every Q show on the east coast from Virginia to Boston from 4/29/01 till my last Phil shows with the Q at the Cap. Eternally grateful. And man do I miss Phil.

NYC Dave yes YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

hoferphil saw all but 8 shows in 2001 (that weird midwestern jaunt was missed)

my musical apex and happiest part of my childfree life

2001 was such a great year for PHIL PLAYING GD AND OTHER music

fixed that for ya

i also adore so much that all us hardcores were there together

it was the same lil troupe of pholks at so many shows

an indescribably magical, wondrous time

^^^^^ it truly was an amazing period of time and so grateful to have been a part of it.  Living in NY during these years provided incredible opportunities to see the Q, Ratdog, Mule, and Allmans at small venues.  I liken it to earning a Masters Degree in awesomeness

Hot dogs and orange juice?

looks like a great show

Those Beacon shows were fabulous!

October 2000 Is No Slouch Either !

The days when you could mail order for 3-4 shows, and then the text messages would go out day of from someone looking to hit the show, so in reality you'd hit 6-7, or more, of the X number of nights.  And he did that 3-4 times a year?  It was a good time to live in/near NYC....

Thinking back almost 25 years ago, we saw the 12/30 and 12/31/2001 shows at the Kaiser.  Big fun!

Then thinking slightly further back, to September, I remember how strange (and amazing!) it was seeing Govt Mule at the Warfield on 9/20, only 9 days after 9/11.  I can't even imagine what that was like for people living in/near NYC at that time!

Listening to 11/30 now, set 2 Warren song.
Sweet show all around --- especially Phil during Eyes.

((((6-7))))

Of note (to me).  My first Phil & friends shoe, which was at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, CT on 11/10/09.
The band was a precursor to the Q, with John Molo, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Rob Barraco. Previous post Jerry shoes where fun, but this band seemed to carry on a flame started by the GD.

& yes JLP, October 2000 shoes where also no slouch.

Hearing the urgency in the  NFA jam, I was reminded that this was right after 9/11.  Holy shit!  The need was there and this band delivered on all cylinders!  Cheers!

I love when they try to come back into NFA they kind of mess up the bombs but it just sounds like they're playing, working it out and then ba boom it lands!

I was there on 11/30.  My 4th and final P&F show of the year.  Yes, only 4.  I do remember the goosebumps.  I also recall the upper balcony not being terribly full for some reason.
