My approach to life as a old
My approach to life as an old school Deadhead today, in 2017, is pretty simple, and several of my friends also share this:
When I want to reconnect with Jerry and the unique greatness that he brought to the music, which NOBODY else will ever equal because there is only one Jerry, it's always easily accessible for me to pull out any of my tapes or CDs, or stream any show on the Archive or on YouTube, and it's all right there. There is PLENTY of Jerry for me to enjoy, in fact almost everything Jerry played is out there to be heard.
And so, even though there can be no other Jerry in today's various lineups, that's okay. If I want the COMMUNAL and SOCIAL experience of being at a show, then DeadCo or Phil at Terrapin or even seeing any number of Dead cover bands around the country, is great for that. And that's because the social and communal aspect of the Deadhead family is something that is also irreplaceable and is still worth tapping into whenever you want. It's still a good feeling to dance with family and hear these songs played live.
OF COURSE it's not Jerry, but I have all the Jerry I need at instant access online or on my tapes or discs. So I'm all good with Jerry. I don't need John Mayer or Jeff Mattson or anyone else to "be Jerry." I can just enjoy being at a show with people for what it is, as a social gathering of Deadheads, and like Jerry, the Deadhead family is also something that you can't get anywhere else.
I'm not saying that I spend a ton of money on tickets to go to a lot of these shows today, because I don't. I'm pretty choosy and thrifty with it. But, when I do feel like going, I have a great time and it doesn't bother me that it's not Jerry.

Well said Pride! My first show was in the 70's, and I love how it's mostly all online now (a couple of shows I'd love to hear a soundboard from, perhaps with time). I like streaming the various incarnations live, and appreciating the different takes players have of the music... I'm mean, Bill Frizzell playing with Phil, wow, along w/ so many others (Robert Randolph with Phil was great!). John Mayer has gotten better as the band matures together, what one would expect. The Jerry tribute at Red Rocks was a lot of fun too... not the same, but as a jazz fan, it's not suppose to be! Viva la Dead

I don't think those ticket stubs were fake. They looked like real stubs to me.
And I will say as a person who has never considered fashion to be particularly important, it's actually a relief in my aging years to have lost the majority of my hair, so I just keep it buzzed down. It's comfortable & cool in hot weather, but I still forget to put sun block on my head when I'm not wearing a hat.
As for style, I did get a pretty cool tan on my crown when I wore a mesh hat one hot afternoon. My head looked like a red & white quilt.
