I've seen short clips and generally understood that it was bad, but never quite realized the full scale of it until seeing this ... holy crap!
I had seen all shows at Deer Creek from 91-93 (maybe 94), but was living in Colorado in 95 and was unable to swing this run, although did make it to the last show in Chicago since a good friend was getting married the day before.

It was a privilege, Ateix. Other than attending many phish shows that summer, i was fortunate to have missed a good deal of the chaos on GD tour, as I bailed in 1992.

No worries, Ateix, most people haven't. Plus you seem fairly knowledgeable when it comes to music, and I'm sure you have seen your share of extraordinary musicians.
And I never saw Frank Zappa.

Back to the footage FOM
Back to the footage FOM posted: I had moved out west by then and didn't make it to Deer Creek that summer. Looks like it was a royal shitshow. Not many older heads in that footage. Did all those cops actually arrest anyone, or did they just fire off tear gas and tow a bunch of cars? I felt sorry for the young kids with tickets who waited for hours to park their cars, only saw part of the show, and came out to find their cars towed. Wonder how that all worked out? All I saw that summer were the shows at Portland Meadows, which were lackluster. The Ourabouros was eating it's own tail at that point, and everyone could see the end coming. We all should have known better.

Yea, it was a bad scene for sure. I was inside and relatively close to the stage but turned around mid-1st set when some out of place noise/cheers erupted only to see people coming over the fencing at the top of the lawn right before the section(s) of said fencing toppled inward. I was surprised people were not hurt (at least I heard of no such injuries) when that happened. Man oh man, was the band visibly and understandably FURIOUS and, as I said before, was surprised they even finished that set or came back for the second set at all. I had heard later on that someone phoned in a death threat on Jerry so things were rather tense to say the least. 4th of July weekend brought a large crowd, lotta counterfeit tickets, and too many hangers on and people there solely to party/score. Another great big F-U message/letter from the band followed as did more problems in St Louis where a deck collapsed at a local camground which killed and injured a few DeadHeads too. Chicago went off refreshingly smoothly but the end was the end, sadly.
