I would spend a little extra and go with Sonos. You can keep adding to the system and eventually have a system that is multi sourse, multi zone, and performs better than bluetooth crap. Draw back is that it does have a wire th a t plugs into electric outlet, which I guess you want some type of battery type power
The Bose Color Soundlink is a good sounding speaker for just around $100. I'm not sure if it's splashproof or not, as I typically just use it around the house/yard. Sound is typical Bose goodness.
Hey RO - we have both the Bose and the Harmon Kardon - the girls use the Bose, the HK is mine for the road...they both work well and hold a charge for quite a while
I tend to stick to jbl (same company as Harmon kardon). The current one is flip 3 I think. waterproof, smallish, decent bass, heavier than it looks (that's the bad). Left it in the garage for a week of plus 100 and it remained fully charged. Option to use aux jack.
I picked up a JBL clip at a pawn shop for 20 bucks. Waterproof, rugged, no distortion. It plays fairly loud but other JBL's go louder. It has a built-in caribiner which is huge plus. You can hang it or attach pretty much anywhere.
The clip is great but really small with commensurate bass sound. Def a time and place for it, but fair warning if sound matters to you. No distortion, sound is true but a little limiting. Depends on what you are listening to and what your size/weight requirements are. The flip is the middle size job, much bigger than the old jbl that I seem to have lost. I think charge is the larger one.
Another small option is oontz angle by Cambridge Works. Cheap, light, small. I use one at work where I listen to a lot of soul, funk, jazz, bluegrass, and it handles it well, sounds better than the recent clip I think but ymmv. Mine is a few years old.
My friend makes these. Not cheap, but worth it, IMO.
I appreciate the storage space inside, as well as the auxillary charging jack, so you can charge your phone from it.
Sounds great too.
