Record Store Day - Drop 2

Forums:

I went and sat in line for 3 hours for drop 2 on Saturday. Felt like back in the day waiting in line for tix. Something about sitting around waiting with new friends talking about music. (and watching the sunrise).  I picked up a few.

Aretha Franklin live in Philly '72

Pearl Jam Alive 12" single. (3 songs that didn't make the first record are on there)

Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks

Beastie Boys - Aglio e Olio

Dee Gees - Foo Fighters Bee Gees cover album.

Anybody else get anything fun from drop 2?

Nice picks

abb,aretha,jorma,ramones & willie nelson

missed roland kirk (1000 copies worldwide)

Amoeba, SF has been using a menu style RSD during covid

soooo civilized. Still wait on line but eliminates the crazy shiiit inside the store.

after seeing St.Paul & Broken Bones on Sunday I may pick up that live RSD release...

Nothing that captured my attention enough to stand in line for. Looked like a good enough day for the 45 collectors I think.

But I still prefer crate digging, and don't collect singles or EP's.

besides, all the flippers are deep into price wars on eBay by 10:30am anyways. If it's something I just can't live without, I've never minded paying an extra twenty or whatever for someone else to deal with the hassle and anxiety of it all.

might still grab that Rory Gallagher bit

It's a marketing tool for Record Store Day Incorporated.  Nothing more, nothing less.

There are serious quality control issues with their products.

Apparently this is why the JGB release was pushed back

I'd love to get my hands on a test pressing from the aborted run

Ive been under the impression RSD (the company) was just an aggregator or whatever. Didn't know they had hands in the stamping but that would account for a few messes I've observed over the years.

On the Aretha disc 1, on the edge there was a little piece of vinyl that did not get shaved off or whatever the process is. I took a small file to it and smoothed it out. It is a nice recording/pressing of a 49 year old show.

I was about 20 deep in line. I looked for the JGB but it was gone by the time I got there. Good to know it got pushed back. I will have to pay attention to the revised release date.

July 8 at 8:30 AM  ·

We’re reaching out with a quick update on the Jerry Garcia Band (30th Anniversary Edition) LP set intended for release during July 17th’s Record Store Day drop.

While reviewing the first completed sets received from our manufacturer, we found the pressing’s fidelity was not consistent with the test pressings approved and a clear deviation from the standards we’ve set for our releases. A full repressing is our only acceptable path forward. While we’re disappointed we won’t have this collection to share on Record Store Day, we’re committed to taking the time to ensure the music sounds just right (as Bobby would say).

At present we do not have a timeline for release, but we intend to complete the repressing as soon as possible with the intention of sharing it before the end of the year. We’ll provide any meaningful updates as we receive them. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Gratefully,
-The Jerry Garcia Family & Round Records
