Remain in Light, a solid performance 2/27/23

Forums:

I went to the Remain in Light show with Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison, along with a great band that played all the quirky noises and rocking licks. A talented horn section, several different strong singers, great percussion, bass and another keyboardist/guitar. Adrian really shined, his diction is wonderful when he sings and he can still play a bad guitar. Jerry sounded great as well, and it felt so good to be able to yell "Jerry!" again.

Along with many songs from Remain in Light, they opened with Psycho Killer, and added Slippery People and Life During Wartime. I was hoping for Listening Wind, that's my favorite on the album, but maybe on June 3, they'll be coming to my home town of Columbus, Ohio! Anyone going to the Columbus show?

Seeing the last show of the tour in CT in March. Thanks for the review .... looking even more forward to it after your post

This is a good one! Chicago smoked on Saturday Night too.

Thanks for the review.  I was on the fence about this, but might have to get tix now.

Cool cool cool is solid on their own anyway and the Thula Hun Ginjeet was a highlight among many.... I did the pre show QnA . Got Adrian to sign thiis he is treat to talk to snd Jerry was incredible to talk with. You get the idea I'm not going back to rotate it

sick

Yum!

I'm in for the Keswick next week.  Custied up for the meet and greet.

Saw the original line up at the Dr Pepper Music Fest Central Park 8/27/1980, it was before the album was released and no one was expecting what transpired.    I recall being adequately tuned up on some full moon paper from Brooklyn.   Definitely a top five show for me.

Your going to love it. We had some great QnA questions in Buffalo at the MnG and they were great conversationalists who seemed thrilled to be talking to us. We covered everything from Jerry's early days to the 80 tour to King Crimson Brian Eno Bowie Visconti and how recording Lodger was approached in the studio.I talked with Adrian for a while afterward about touring with David's band while the road manager stood there tapping his watch and looking at me. Adrian would have gone on all night

I will miss my hometown New Haven show because I'm heading to VT for ski trip so me and the Mrs are trekking to NJ on Sunday. Freakin Psyched.

Sounds like the meet n greet should be great fun!  Thanks fishcane!

Yeah Sigmund!  My hometown is Stamford, we used to go up to Toads Place and the old Coliseum for shows.

Cheers All!

Vern and I met Adrian backstage at King Crimson '96 in Cincinnati. He was very friendly, I stayed back not wanting to bother him and he waved me over to say hello, he was very willing to engage with everyone. We took a picture with him, I can't post pictures now, but I hope you can get a quick selfie with him. Robert Frippe did not want to be bothered, he was sitting apart from everyone and Vern walked over to say hello and he got up and walked away, Vern felt badly he disturbed him, he just wanted to mellow out after a show. We didn't see any others. I hope you all enjoy the show.

Recalling how many different bands I've seen Adrian in...

Frank Zappa

Talking Heads

King Crimson

The Bears

Power Trio

His band and Stick Men did an apart and together tour

It was solid last night in NJ as well.
Cool cool cool was cool cool too.

Had a blast last night.  QnA was awesome.  I asked Adrian what it was like to play with Frank.   He went on to say that Frank was his mentor in all aspects of the music industry.  He said that he lived with Frank for 3 months during the production of Sheik Yerbouti.  He said Frank taught him the music because he didn't know how to read music! Told a story about how his part singing 'Bob Dylan' in Flakes came about as well as his discomfort at later meeting Bob after Bob said he'd heard about him.  Great stuff!

The most astonishing story came when someone asked Adrian how he hooked up with Talking Heads.  Adrian said he'd seen Talking Heads a couple of times during the Fear of Music tour and had become friends with Jerry and the band.  Later Adrian brought his band to NYC for a music industry demo.  Jerry called him and asked if he could come to the studio the next day which he did.  He said they gave him headphones told him to listen to the track a couple of times and wherever he thought the solo should go, play it and they would build the song around it.  That became the Great Curve!  He said all the music was recorded and he laid down all the guitar solos in one day!

So cool to hear stories like this.

Thanks for sharing

Cool info indeed

Tonight is my night for this, any zoners hitting the Boston show?

The Seattle show at The Neptune was moved to Moore Theatre (cuz there's moore room).

Thought the show was better than the stream, belew is so sick and the bass player Julie Slick is a monster, such a phunky good time!!! go to the show, highlight for me was Cities

Yea Cities is great, these guys crush it. Phish got nothing on their take...In Buffalo, someone yelled out "more bass" and they said "hear ya go" and CRANKED it. Her band Start Making Sense is worth a listen too

I have yet to find a good quality audio recording of any of this tour... anyone find a good one yet?

Not great but doesn't suck either - 9.29.22 LA Wiltern:

Yea I saw that one, mainly looking for a good audience recording of any of the 23 tour I can hop on a torrent for. Haven't seen one yet

Last night in new haven

Good to see Tina and Chris back on their feet after that bad car accident they were in.

Well, THAT was one powerful show! They really brought it before a few weeks of down time. Crisp chops by everyone on stage....

I was one of the last people to leave the balcony

Fitting Jackson Browne tribute to the crew was playing loud as they broke down the stage

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet,
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know

Someone asked Chris if it would be naive to ask if him and Tina might play together with these guys at some point... his response"it would not be" .....then there is this:
