Remember Roach Clips?

Forums:

No one seems to use them any more. I guess the weed is so good and plentiful that they're just not necessary. Or folks have moved on to oils and waxes or edibles - or nothing!

First saw them for sale in Provincetown ca. 1967. Didn't know what they were for. It all became clear the next year, when it seemed like everybody between 15 and 40 around my town became a viper.

On the long drive from MA to OR in 1976, the wife wove a macrame strap as we rolled along. Attached the clip to the end so that if we dropped the joint by accident or in reaction to a LEO passing us the joint would hang just off the floor of the VW bus.

Good times.

what about hemostats?

by the wayside like sticks and seeds

I said roach clip in front of my kids a while back and they had no idea what I was talking about....had to go the the archives box in my room  and demonstrate. Ted thought it was cool as shit and kept it in his room to use with his crew.

Passin on weed tricks to the youngins

Hemostats were the best. No stinky fingers and you could schmoke it down to nuttin.   Now I just press a button

We all had a nurse for a friend....lol....

"Stat!"

I think we still have a hemostat someplace.

Maybe I'll dig it out.

Still wear them in my hair occasionally.

^^^^^^^^ (((((Hippy Chicks))))^^^^^^^

Pipes are just more practical since  just a pinch.. a dab will do ya. also since many folks are rolling joints differently (with filters) now there's more to hold onto, no need for a clip.

Nothing quite like power hitting a tiny roach on a clip and having the cherry hit you in the back of the throat.

Hey

Do they still make Randy’s rolling papers with the built in wire

The ceramic tops from the flip bottles like Grolsch were also fun to use.  I think they are all made out of plastic these days.

Got my hemostat in 1976. Still use it occasionally. Toke.

Remember the word "bogart" ?...lol

Timmy hit it right on head w that lil red hot cherry hit hitting you right back of throat...too funny....

Almost burned my throat
Happened just the other day
Maybe I should get a bong
Give my papers all away

I found a hemp woven necklace with a dime size peace symbol and a roach clip for a fastener.

Hung it in my bus for years and used it often. We smoke fewer joints now but it still gets used occasionally.

Weed's so cheap now, no one is trifling with roaches.

I was pulled over once in New Jersey with a couple of friends during the '88 MSG run.  It was a 2 Lane state highway, just across the line from Pennsylvania.  I was doing the speed limit, but a squad car got on my tail and pulled me over about a mile down the road.  I asked the trooper why he'd pulled me over.  He said one of my brake lights was out.  When I asked how he would've known that until he pulled me over and I had to apply my brakes, he pointed at the roach clip with a feather that the girl in the front passenger seat had hung on the window shade, and said, "What about this?"

This the best pipe I have ever smoked out of.

Don't know much about the company, because the pipe is working so well ~

I still have 2 awesome roach clips my mom bought from some road side hippie stand in Cali back in 1978.  She thought they were earrings.  I just recently found my old Grolsch "smoking stone"  love that thing.

recently saw this fairly cheap gadget called a martian bubbler that caught my eye and might have to become part of my collection.

Hey! Its Schnee!

I still roll joints with the raw brand paper. Sometimes I use a small pair of needle nose pliers for a clip. Got zero issues with the roaches.

nobody uses roach clips anymore because most people now roll with joint tips like these -

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71SPAghmJ7L._SY355_.jpg

its much more comfortable to smoke the joint this way...the end does not get soggy, no weed in your mouth, and imo it just smokes better. joints without nice tips on them seem gross to me now, i usually decline them. these used to be known as a "crutch" and were typically made from whatever crappy cardboard or firm paper is lying around, torn by hand. the raw brand tips especially, are just the right thickness, and are cut with the grain so they roll into a perfect circle, and the smooth cut ends make it really really nice, as opposed to a torn up bit of cardboard.

the fact that nobody has mentioned these on what is supposed to be a goddamn drugband message board is crazy to me. these things are standard among almost all cannabis smokers i know. if you do not use them, please try them and up your joint game immeasurably.

also if you are not using raw papers please get on that. buying them in 300 packs is far, far cheaper than crap like zigzag, and as an added bonus you can actually properly taste and enjoy your weed instead of tasting like burnt bleached paper.

I still like Clubs more than Raw.

It’s true, the youth is all about the filters. My son has been making fun of me for years for not using them. He and his pals admit, though, that my spliffs are the best filterless ones that they have smoked.

I’d move to the filters, but there’s a learning curve in rolling them. I don’t smoke enough (and roll enough)  to justify the curve.

Not sure how you'd use that umbrella clip without the edge of the umbrella up your nose.

That image is proof that necessity is the Mother of invention.

Got the Keys
To the Highway

I like the background in the image.  The Budweiser bottle cap could be bent in to a clip.

This is my Top Hat ~

At the time when all vendors carried around cases of branded trinkets I was delivered a case of these 'note holders' from my rep.   She saved them all for me.  I rewarded her with a fat sack. After giving a shit load away I still have enough to last me until my lungs give out.

So its a paper weight too?  For desk smoking? Cool

If you rigged up an ashtray below; it would literary be a horse "feed bag"  approach.

Look Ma, no hands ~

They also serve as weighted nipple clamps.  Multi purpose tools.

Remember the old smoking stones that acted as a type of roach clip?

still have my hemostats.

Rarely smoke joints anymore, unless I am out in a public place. Easy to get rid of and no paraphernalia to get caught with

if I do roll some at the house I still save the roaches for one of them nasty tasters rolled up from the roaches when I am out, some things never change

Try a glass crutch sometime. Doubt you’ll ever feel the need to pack a roach clip again. Serious.

I now like very large rolling papers.

They are more forgiving.

Had not enjoyed joints since 2000 or so, but now like them.

Not in the Honda, outside in a park / beach.

I like ceramic stones better the Roach clips, Are they around?

I have my friend's dad's old ceramic roach pipe/device. It's old and has Carlos santana on it.

My father in law was a teacher back in the 80's, confiscated this from a student...

Nice ^

Many pipes and the 2 stones I had were confiscated in Junior High by my teachers.

The one roach stone I had was White with very nice Purple pastel artwork, in 1976.

I just grabbed the cap off a Grolsch bottle for a smoking stone.

On New Year, my daughter asked if I’d roll her a few joints. She came in after the first one and complained that it fell apart, and that I can’t roll a good joint. Anyone who knows me knows that’s a silly statement. I roll a great joint.

The problem is that I don’t use filters, which is what the kids are used to. They drag on it like a cigarette rather than a spliff, and they don’t know how to properly hand it off to the next person. The roach was a slobbered on and violated mess. Silly kids!

i learned a long time ago to be very cautious accepting joints from the boomer generation. sorry guys but your rolling game is lagging.

Oh my god! I don't want a hit from your spliff because you're old and it might run up the side! The horrors!

Really?

I have been toking on strangers' jays, when offered, for 50 years. I can assure you there is absolutely no correlation between the age of the roller and the quality of the product.

Hi, I’m BrianK and I’m Gen X. I roll with Club Bistro papers because they are better and thinner than Raw, and have no glue.

Modianos.  By the case back when

I have a briefcase full of my pipe collection stashed in the garage somewhere

used to be pretty substantial with some fine art and craftsmanship

Also collected miniature meerschaums - using pipes from around the world is global

I think my favorite perhaps was the Tony the tiger handlebar grips on my ape hangers on a 10 speed   could smoke 90% of a joint rin one hit if you were man enough (it worked best if you rode the bike Up page mill re to foothill park first

On occasion we used filters back in 1970 youngballs

For the whippersnappers that don’t know, Modiano produced Club papers.

I found a bunch of packs at a head shop a few years ago and bought them up. I have about 1/2 a pack left. After those are gone, I guess I have to switch to Raw.

^have you tried glass?
