If the Media Keeps Ignoring Health Care, We’ll Lose It

As newsworthy as Russia's interference in the 2016 election is, a bill to take away health insurance from millions is, at the very least, equally worthy of public attention.

So if you want to read an intelligent take on the Senate proposal (as opposed to listening to Schumer bloviate about how Republicans want to throw granny in the snow to starve) I suggest you take five minutes to read this article by Avik Roy, who specializes in health care policy:

>>>>>who specializes in health care policy:

Uh, actually he specializes in being a Republican strategist.  Great research, Thom.

Good lord, can't we just go to universal and be done with this shit? If people want supplemental, they can get it.

The ACA has problems. The ACHA has problems. Universal will too, but at least everyone will have coverage.

>>> Good lord, can't we just go to universal and be done with this shit? If people want supplemental, they can get it. <<

^ THIS

Thom, please explain to my why the "American Way" has to be that there are people who can't afford healthcare and necessary medications.

THe Right makes healthcare out to be a luxury: If people want it, they can get it. If they don't, they don't have to.

Why is it viewed as a luxury rather than a right?

True, this bill cuts funding for all Planned Parenthood services and birth control.

It also allows individual states to opt out of covering things like pregnancy, childbirth and pre-existing conditions.

"If you can't afford healthcare, then you die."

A republican friend of mine

Well, with the current administration, clean air, water, and food are also luxury items. If people want it, they can get it. If they don't, they don't have to.

So, clearly, death is an option to be considered.

Paying Thom's salary while he spends yet another day on social media is apparently a luxury the taxpayer's of Delaware can afford too . . . .

Nice Thom Forbes greed merchants official read.

Just a giant tax cut to rich and huge giveaway to insurance companies and pharmaceutical POS.

Medicaid was a bailout of allot of Americans aged 50-64 GOP wants to take away there care and access to it.

Republican Care:

Death Spiral: It eliminates the individual mandate; reduces subsidies for the poor; reduces benchmark plans to an actuarial value of 58 percent; and increases deductibles and copays. Whatever instability Obamacare currently has, this will make it far, far worse.

Essential Health Benefits: Like the House bill, the Senate bill makes it easy for states to cut essential health benefits, which motivates insurers to offer low-end policies for the working poor that are worthless—but only if you read the fine print.

More Uninsured: It will lead to tens of millions fewer people having health coverage. CBO will provide an exact number in a few days, but we already know it’s going to be big.

Lifetime Caps: Guts protections against annual and lifetime caps, and because of the way the bill is written, it’s likely to do this even for employer insurance, not just for the individual market.

Here Is How Senate Republicans Try To Hide The Damage Of Their Repeal Bill

nice tax breaks for the rich

retroactive no less

robin hood in reverse

I doubt it will pass, if it does we are headed to the where concierge doctors will be accepting cash only, insurance will be worthless and only the 1 percent (and lawmakers who are exempt from GOPCare ) will be able to afford health care. this is not an attempt to fix the A.C.A., it's about scrapping it to give tax cuts to the wealthiest 1 percent.

Obamacare removed lifetime limits - the ability for insurance companies to cap payouts. The GOP plan is permitting insurers to reinstate lifetime caps, and that goes for insurance plans offered by employers. GOT a major disease, well once your cap is reached, you are fucked.  The GOP legislation reinstates annual and lifetime benefits limits. How can anyone support or defend this plan?!

  Trumpcare < Obamacare

and it doesn't even address the elephant in the room:

it does nothing to lower premiums or help people in any way to afford healthcare or health insurance (which was allegedly the goal for "repeal & replace"). just blows it off like it's not even an issue.

^it doesn't do anything to address prescription drug prices either.

personally I think dental insurance needs serious reform too. Having to pay the full amount for services upfront or you don't receive the services is just insane.

>>>>>>> How can anyone support or defend this plan?!

Because a few thousand senile old white people in the rust belt were pissed that a black guy got to be president & leapfrogged in front of the next logical "race" in line (Kennedy was an Irish Catholic;  the next logical Race would thus have been Italian or Jewish or Polish, then a Woman;  Then & Only Then would it be a Black Guy's "turn").

You think I'm bullshitting about that, you shoulda met my parents & all their friends . . .

5 Senator's who can be bribed stand between this bill passing or not. Scary! Remember the cornhusker kickback to get the ACA through. More of that to come unfortunately.

Considering what I've heard from the NY/NJ building code officials I knew who worked on Trump projects, Trump knows Bribery all too well.
