Imagine if a group of people decided to get behind the belief that drinking and driving was a good thing and wanted to make it the new law of the land. Eventually said group swelled to about 1/3 of the nation & adopted some "figureheads" who publicly espoused drinking and driving at every turn; even going so far as to denigrate and vilify those who oppose their belief system in order to adopt drinking and driving as the new law of the land.
If even a bartender who serves too much can be prosecuted for the harmful aftermath of drinking and driving, should said "figureheads" (above) not be subject to even more severe penalties?
Likewise, what about those at the bar who actively encourage others to drink and drive?
. “But there’s not a lot of firepower behind [Trump’s] narcissism, so you end up with grade-school nicknames and playground-level insults.”
Republican Party:
The GOP will not be a great or good party until those who lead it straighten their backbone.
But what was on display on Capitol Hill on Wednesday was not simply an impeachment inquiry into an unscrupulous president; it was the ongoing, deepening complicity and corruption of the party he leads.
What the Republican Party is saying and signaling isn’t simply that rationality and truth are subordinate to partisanship; it is that they have to be obliterated for the sake of partisanship and the survival of the Trump presidency.
You can be critical of the Democratic Party and believe, as I do, that it is becoming increasingly radicalized while also believing this: The Republican Party under Donald Trump is a party built largely on lies, and it is now maintained by politicians and supporters who are willing to “live within the lie
For what purpose?” they respond point-blank when asked why they don’t speak out with moral urgency against the president’s moral transgressions, his cruelty, his daily assault on reality, and his ongoing destruction of our civic and political culture. Trump is more powerful and more popular than they are, they will say, and they will be targeted by him and his supporters and perhaps even voted out of office.
Boyce O'Brien of Phoenix, who voted GOP every election until Trump, lamented what he views as the lack of a moral compass among elected officials within the President's party -- and the likelihood that impeachment could just become another partisan exercise.
"Where are those Christian Republicans when it comes to integrity? They've ignored what this president has done," O'Brien said. "This is another example of it. I hope this (the hearing) will turn the tide and hold him accountable. These hearings are hopefully a turning point for the country. Let's hope it goes to integrity, accountability, to the rule of law."
The CIA is an intensely apolitical organization. As intelligence analysts, we are trained to check our politics at the door. Our job is to produce objective analysis that the country’s leaders can use to make difficult decisions. We undergo rigorous training on how to analyze our own assumptions and overcome biases that might cloud our judgement.
That's a valid question but let's take it further.
Where are the real Americans??? People who believe in our system of government and how a person representing us should act on behalf of our country?
I'm aware of our political climate. I've been around politics a long time. I'm not naive. But still, it's so disheartening to see people get elected to office and the first and only thing on their mind is getting re-elected and keeping the check coming in. Forget working on behalf of the country and your constituents. We have people who have sworn an oath to protect and defend the constitution who won't speak out cause they might not get re-elected. Might be attacked by the most reprehensible person to hold that job in my memory. How does this ogre hold such sway with them, and some voters? Sad to watch people with so little moral character and courage to speak out and represent our country in those chambers. They don't deserve to be there. Job security over protecting our democracy. Wonder what those soldiers who died on the beaches of Normandy would say to them.
No wonder the youth are so enamored of "The Squad". They are not afraid.
Sadly the majority of the country are not into what we do on a daily basis - giving a fuck.
They'd rather be watching American Gladiators.
