Truly one of the greats. We were lucky to be around the same time as Kris. Glad he got to be with family in Hawaii for his transition. He deserved the best.
I will always hold Kris above all others for this moment of solidarity with Sinead 2 weeks after the pope incident at the Dylan anniversary show. The way she just stood there amongst the booing and then told the band to stop, tore out her ear monitors and belted out War. I think that moment really broke her and Kris was right there for her and let her know she was right.
I have never been a huge fan of his songs, but I admired his grace in doing all he did.

this is the high water mark for me. Sinead's performance with out the band is the gutsiest move I have ever witnessed, and the reaction of the so called Dylan fans absolutely shocked me. This was Dylan going electric and being called Judas by his fans all over again. It looked like those few minutes totally drained Sinaed's being of almost everything she had in her. Kris's comforting of her among the booing, with her standing there, drained of her being, isolated in a sea of humanity, was so loving, so father like, and so Christ like, in supporting this fellow human being here on earth. Both acts were so rock and roll, to me, not that rock and roll can be defined. I do not believe that Dylan ever commented on it, or I have not heard of him commenting on it, and that is also such a Dylan move.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.” – The Family of Kris Kristofferson

So, The Highwaymen were Kris,
RIP Kris
So, The Highwaymen were Kris, Willie, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.
I say, Kris Kristofferson was the best songwriter of the four.
He and Elvis have one thing in common; skip the movie career and the music legacy would be much greater.
Well, I know Kris and Rita, and Marty Mull
are meeting at the Troubadour
We'll get it on with the Joy of Cooking
while the crowd cries out for more
