I'm having this show for brunch.

I did the entire east coast run that summer. I broke my arm playing soccer and was conveniently out of work/ school for the duration

Dwight Yoakam's opening set was pretty good too:

Ring of Fire (Merle Kilgore cover)

Please, Please Baby

The Last Time (The Rolling Stones cover)

The Distance Between You and Me

Sin City (The Flying Burrito Brothers cover)

Little Sister (Elvis Presley cover)

Streets of Bakersfield (Buck Owens and His Buckaroos cover)

Truckin' (Grateful Dead cover)

Honky Tonk Man (Johnny Horton cover)

Guitars, Cadillacs

Takes a Lot to Rock You

Long White Cadillac (The Blasters cover)

it was a blistering hot day, and the sun was still over our heads during Dwight's set.   I had real good seats that night, something like 12th row on Jerry's side.  Dwight mentioned that he was trying to move as little as possible.  The sun was going down during the Dead's first set, and it started to cool off.  There were big fans on the stage making Jerry's hair look like a lion's mane.

wait a minute are you seriously telling me that the reason the bands hair is always blowing back is because of FANS and not the heady energy of the jams????? noooooooooooooooooo

IWT.  20 years old and full of adventure.  Drove down from the Jersey shore where I was living that summer with a house full of fraternity brothers.  I remember being in the field in the middle of what seemed at the time to be the center of the universe.  When the first notes of Dark Star rang out, the crowd lost its collective mind and the guy behind gave me a bear hug I can still feel.  what amazing time in my life.  we had it good.

My first in person Dark Star!  That wuz a good one ....
