Richard Thompson Band West Coast Tour

Forums:

A friend of mine couldn't get a ticket to tonight's sold out show at Portland's Revolution Hall, so they drove up here, and I was the beneficiary of their extra ticket.  The first date of this West Coast leg of their tour supporting his 2024 Ship To Shore LP was a good one.

Richard said it was the first tour with his band in 5 years, and he was clearly happy to be on stage with them again.  His band includes Michael Jerome on drums, and his grandson on guitar, who is a promising young talent in his own right.  At 75, Richard hasn't  lost a step.  He played a good bit of the new album, and some tasty selections from his back catalogue.  His solo performance on 1952 Vincent Black Lightning remains a standout tour de force.  The band was cooking, and delivered all night.  Tear Stained Letter was top shelf, as was their cover of Bells Of Rhymney in the Byrds arrangement.

The opening act, a duo of cousins from Saskatchewan called Kacy & Clayton, played a fine opening set of acoustic music.  They had a Richard & Mimi Farina vibe, or perhaps Richard Farina and Mama Cass.  Well worth arriving early for.

Sorry, no pictures, as Richard requested, but here's the setlist and a link to the tour dates:

Sick

nice gig

saw this listed months ago and belly up was already sold out.

RT never disappoints and doesn't seem to have lost a step at 75. The newest album (Ship to Shore) is right up there with his best.

I just grabbed tix for the Fillmore. I didn't realize he was out with a band, it's been a while since I have seen him in a format than a solo or a duo. Thanks for the review, Dave, it lit a fire under me and my wife as were on the fence.

Saw him Saturday in Vancouver BC. The show was billed as the RT Trio, but that obviously wasn't the case. His grandson played some nice guitar, though. Richard was strong, but his guitar tone was a bit thin sometimes and he didn't seem to take as many solos as when I saw him a few times 7-10 years ago.

Friends just saw him in Salt Lake and said it was GREAT!

I thought last night in Portland was fantastic. The band was on it from the first song. Pretty much the same setlist as Seattle with the exception of Beeswing as first encore. I hadn't seen him electric in years and I was thrilled to be in that room.
