RIP Pigpen... you are dearly loved and sorely missed

I was under the impression that his passing was due solely to excessive drinking, until I read this today:

"... By the beginning of the 1970s, [Pigpen] also began to exhibit symptoms of congenital primary biliary cholangitis, a rare autoimmune disorder of the liver unrelated to his alcohol use.

Sadly, his continued drinking coupled with this condition caused Pigpen’s health to deteriorate quickly."

> congenital primary biliary cholangitis

That's an interesting bit of info to weave into Pigpen's narrative. Kind of like learning that Jack Kerouac probably had CTE as a result of his playing football at Columbia.

One of a kind. Gone but not forgotten. Never would have been a Grateful Dead without him.

PigPen is more than a memory. He is still loved &  will not be forgotten.
