RIP Andy Goesling

Forums:

I was so saddened to hear that Andy passed away yesterday morning.

He was a incredible multi instrument musician and a sweet human being.

He will be dearly missed by all RRE fans and  many friends.

Forgive me Andy ,in heaven.

My spell check missed a "S" in Goessling.I know how you hated it when people mis pronounced your last name.....but you were such a gentleman you would rarely correct folks.

Oh man.  Serious bummer.  Was he sick?

From the article:

No cause of death has been confirmed at this time. Starting in May of 2017, Railroad Earth announced that Goessling would be undergoing medical treatment and would miss some of the band’s shows. Goessling also recently sat out RRE gigs late this summer.

RIP Andy.

cancer sucks

RIP

Saw him last year and word was that he had been sick.

He was a big part of RRE. See you down the road .

You will be missed by all.  Your band was the best "unknown" band for decades.  Now, known by every music lover.  RIP Andy.

Great musician, glad i was able to see him. RIP

Oh, fuck.

I was fortunate to see Andy (and Tim) play with Blue Sparks From Hell when I was 17 or so.  A "Redneck Mother" frat party.  The music ended when some obese New Brunswick cop pulled the plug during Johnny B. Goode.  Then it was nothing but drums and the crowd singing "Go...go, Johnny, go..."

We were blown away at the band switching instruments all night.

I was already into RRE when I found out Andy and Tim were in the band.

I was always a little disappointed when he picked up the banjo because it meant he wouldn't be flat-picking a guitar.

RIP.

aw man... so sad to hear this news, and unexpected

to me, Andy was a big part of RRE's appeal... his multi-instrument capability added a huge dimension to their music

with Hangtown happening 2 weekends from now, that's gonna be a bittersweet and emotional series of RRE performances at their flagship festival

RIP Andy

>>>>>to me, Andy was a big part of RRE's appeal...

For sure.  I’d be surprised if they stay a band after his passing.  Dude was RRE.

RIP Andy G.

Seen the RRE a bunch.  Last time was in NYC at the Nokia or whatever they call it now.  Cool Zoner from Baltimore dragged me up there one evening.

A nice young couple I know met at  RRE show,  must be 17-18 years wed by now.

Have always enjoyed their shows and Andy's contributions.

RRE is streaming live right now through their facebook page

A Tribute to a Life well-lived. Andy Goessling, as you can see from these photos, played a wide variety of musical instruments, only a fraction of which are represented here. As an integral member of Railroad Earth and other musical projects, Andy was a consummate Renaissance Man and Master of everything from wind to string instruments. Perhaps more importantly, he was a soft-spoken gentleman and an exceptionally good friend to his fans and loved ones. Rest In Peace, Andy, as we sing you a Hobo’s Lullaby. We Love You More Than Words Can Tell... ❤️

Thanks for the Photos DJ.

One of my favorite musicians and an overall awesome person. damn, he will be missed.

A nicely written piece by a good friend of Andy's & RRE, Jay Lustig of NJArts.net :

You can Tune In to this Podcast link for my slightly disorganized collection of Andy Goessling's amazing talents. I was fortunate to be joined by surprise guest Johnny Maj, HGRNJ's Host of 'Railroad Earth Happy Hour' :

Andy was such a low key guy, he might not like all the attention, but in preparing my Internet Radio Tribute to him for today, I found such a wealth of material in my own collection and online that I will be devoting most of today's "Signpost To New Space" show to Andy's broad and eclectic range of musical interests and multi-instrumentalist chops. I wish I could do or say more to make us Hobos feel better, but I'm hoping if I just let the music talking, that will always be there for us as a healer...

You are and were a Kind Soul, Andy. We will keep the flame burning for you...

^^^ DJ, thanks for posting the link to such a touching, moving tribute to Andy... the videos accompanying the piece added greatly to my enjoyment and appreciation

listening to your Podcast now... thanks for linking to it

RIP Andy... you are deeply loved and sorely missed

Thanks for the bump.  Some how missed this news.   Very sad indeed.

Anyone go to hangtown?   Did it go on?

It went on.  Joe Craven did a nice spoken word tribute before the Sat headlining set.  It must have been tough as hell for the band, it was sad for us, not the least part being uncertainty as to where the band goes from here.  They are all hella talented, but from what I understand Andy was integral to everything. They sounded a little "in transition", with keys and Todd playing a more electric sounding guitar.  I only see them once a year at this fest, so I don't know how long they have been playing with this sound.  It will be interesting following them in this time of change.

Alias, Thanks for the update.    Are the keys permanent now?

Transition might be a good thing considering the loss.  Reinventing themselves could be interesting.
