The piano solo was added
The piano solo was added after the Layla song was recorded and done by drummer Jim Gorden
who apparently ripped the riff from Rita Cooledge. Whitlock didn't like the piano add on ; didn't feel it fit the song .

RIP. Just had that first self titled Eric Clapton album on the turntable yesterday and those early Delaney & Bonnie albums are in regular rotation too.
