RIP David Cassidy

Forums:

Thoughts and prayers.

Loved watching The Brady Bunch when I was younger.

We will miss you, Danny.

Sad news. Hopefully DeadCo breaks out Bob Dylan's tribute to The Partridge Family, 'Cassidy' in his honor tonight.

He's not dead yet as of this time - so the RIP is a bit premature.

Six, he very bravely went public about his struggle with illness earlier this year. This is a time for well wishes for Mr. Cassidy and his family, please.

That report says he is in critical condition, not dead yet. Posting that he is already dead is not accurate.

not dead

he played keith not danny

Six, I'm not sure why you're being contentious in a RIP thread? Pretty disgusting behavior, honestly.

NBC also reporting Cassidy has passed on.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-new...

Pretty sure he played Mr. Kinkaid, the bands drug dealer.

In any event, R.I.P., this is awful news.

I remember watching him on Knight Rider when I was a kid.

Phenomenal actor, and obviously beloved by many.

He did a great job voicing KITT. Truly beloved.

Just read that he won an Emmy for his role on the Hardy Boys show, which I had forgotten about.

>>he played keith not danny

and on Partridge Family, not Brady Bunch...

There was one?

Oh wow, those Hardy Boys productions were great.

I loved his appearances as the cadet in the military school on that one episode of "Columbo," where Lt. Columbo is investigating allegations of abuse by the commandant. What a classic.

His brother Shaun was in the Hardy Boys.

At least he and Shirley Jones are gonna be singing together in heaven.

The drugs really took his looks away, just horrible.

He was so goddamn beautiful. Look at those ears.

3_27.jpg

Sad what Charlie Sheen did to him.

Susan Dey had a big thing for David but he never reciprocated because, well, YOU KNOW, and of course she proceeded to stalk and harass him for years after the show ended which is one of many things that drove him into the deep end.

Absolutely on point, BB. I notice that all mentions of David have been whitewashed from Susan Dey's wikipedia page.

SAD.

So you all just masturbate together in a circle?

Awwwww.... dang it.RIP

little known fact: he was the great great grandson of real life Butch Cassidy, famously portrayed by Robert Redford in the movie 'The Sting'.

Nice one Trebor!

Here’s another: David’s father Jack had an affair with famous compose Cole Porter. Also, Jack died when he lit himself on fire in a drunken stupor. :(

It was cool when Quentin Tarantino plucked him out of late career obscurity for his role in Jackie Brown.

I agree, a touching and sublime move. Great onscreen chemistry between him and Pam Grier.

As mentioned above, those roles were juggernaut performances. Still I think his defining work was as a child actor when he enthralled audiences with his portrayal of Rosebud in Citizen Kane.

Still don't see a report of his death.

Likewise, wikipedia still has him living as of the time of this posting:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Cassidy#Health

... but doesn't look good in any case, rip if that is where it's headed

What about Charles Manson?

USA Today reporting David Cassidy has passed.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/877639001

Huge loss for the experimental music world.

Where in that article does it say that?

>>> ... but doesn't look good in any case, rip if that is where it's headed

speaking on heads... it's been long rumored that David Cassidy had a conjoined twin that was surgically removed and miraculously survived. Named Ted, that child grew up to have a successful show business career of his own.

most notably, terrorizing Roy Scheider in a series of 70s James Bond films as the metal toothed villain Jaws.

And here I thought I was "dark" for visiting wiki pages of people who've just been reported as having died ... I've never gotten to a page before it had been updated with the death date / info.

I remember hearing 'The Higher They Climb' for the first time and being completely blown away. The way Cassidy tells a story...shivers, yall.

All three links provided by Mark to back up his claims of David's passing say he is ailing and needs a transplant, but he's NOT dead. Six is correct.

But Mark if you want to read 'em differently and say he's dead, knock yourself out.

Its cool, Slickrock. People are having a hard time processing this. I understand your anger, and I don't take it personally.

Obviously this is a huge loss for the abstract sculpture world. I don't think it's a stretch to say Cassidy was one of the greatest.

It's cool that you don't know how to read? Glad you're happy about that. Most thinking people would be concerned. Which probably explains why you're not.

I'm sorry for your profound loss.  Mr. Cassidy's passing doesn't mean anything to me. Have a good night.

TMZ is reporting David Cassidy has passed away.

https://www.google.com/amp/amp.tmz.com/2017/11/18/david-cassidy-critical...

Huge loss for NASCAR. His contributions are one of the major reasons the sport is at the level it is today.

bobby s best song was written about fun times together w him...

It seems inevitable with any tragedy these days that certain people will refuse to believe its true and obviously this is another one of those situations. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news, unless it’s about someone famous dying of course.

Point being that he’s dead. We all just need to accept it.

>>>>>>>Mr. Cassidy's passing doesn't mean anything to me. Have a good night.

Then why are you posting in his memorial thread?

Goodnight sweet Sixrock.

My understanding is that Phil Lesh and his band of hired lackeys opened their show in Alabama tonite with a ripping performance of "Cassidy" as a tribute to this great talent.

Wow !  RIP David <3

I had a neighbor friend who was totally in Love with him when I was like 8 , she asked me to go with her to see him in Atlantic City, NJ at the Steel Pier !  Her mom was hooked in somehow and got us backstage to meet the "Tiger Beat" heartthrob , he was nice and we got autographs...I was just happy to be off the farm...lol !

Thing is when I showed up at her house she said I had to wear a matching dress to her ( it was horrid ugly) and had it all picked out, she was very, very spoiled  :( I was so humiliated and wanted to just go home...but the ball was rolling for sure.

I went and enjoyed the beautiful diving horse way more than the show, that is when I knew i was different , 6 years later I would attend my first GD show ...;)

This is exactly what he looked like, white jumpsuit and all.

Holy shit is that him on that horse? What the hell is that?????

china>rider???

Rip, he's on the Highway To Hell sad

Can't say as I expected Lynn to show up everyone else in this thread, but credit where credit is due.

Little known or well remembered fact from the Spring of 1971, Jimmy Green and I toured our elementary school barnstorming all 8 grades at OLHC in Port Richmond with our acapella version of the Partridge Family classic "I Think I Love You".  It was a heady time in America with the war in Vietnam ongoing and “wet look” vests gaining popularity . This song reached us and many other of my fellow second graders at our core.

“I don't know what I'm up against,
I don't know what it's all about,
I got so much to think about”

>>Goodnight sweet Sixrock

I'm currently building a little cottage with a white picket fence on the real estate I own in the Timbrain.

Church this morning was a tear jerker as the pastor game his monologue about the life of David Cassidy and how it effected all of us. He brilliantly interwove his life with the Bible story about David and Goliath, and how their homosexual affair lead to the destruction of the cities bearing their names. In his monologue, “Hollywood” took the place of Goliath and he went into graphic detail on how Hollywood took this beautiful young man and turned him out, pimping him to the highest bidder.

Well, the GOOD NEWS is that he’s now finally at the place that is best, with the Spirit In The Sky, which is the song we all collectively walked out of church to, with not a dry eye in the House.

that is interesting, considering the animated religious children's program 'Davey & Goliath' was based on the childhood adventures of a young David Cassidy & his loyal dog Goliath.

i'm gonna be a mess all day.

Just a song of Goliath...

>>>that is interesting, considering the animated religious children's program 'Davey & Goliath' was based on the childhood adventures of a young David Cassidy & his loyal dog Goliath

Whoa are those the ones that look like Gumby and Pokey? I never realized that was Cassidy but it makes sense now. So sad.

I heard Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Baker went to the hospital and did a healing. Cassidy's on his way to the Carribean now with his surfboard in tow. Wow, THAT was close.

I don't find your "humor" the least bit funny here, Slickrock.

Please show some respect for David Cassidy and his family. Thanks.

He was a player. During the Carter years peace in the Middle East was made at his Camp.

A pic from the infamous “To Catch A Predator” episode.

I've never quite paid close attention to "who's who" in the non-stop back and forth shit talking around here, but now have a better idea & will proceed accordingly.

Phantom-Zone.jpg

And you can try to "Tuttle'ize" it until you're blue in the face, but it still is what it is.

Tuttle.jpg

FOM I think you’re in the wrong thread. This isn’t for complaining about airlines and gas station tv monitors. Have some respect.

Bucky, what episode of the Sopranos does this bring to mind?

The one where Christopher accidentally murders Adrianna’s little dog Cosette when he sits-on and smothers her in a heroin-induced stupor. I was really sad then and I’m really sad now too.

Remember when Melissa Ethridge and Ellen Degeneres used David Cassidy’s spermicide to make their baby?

Man that was big news at the time.

Damn, I forget about that.

Their kid must be about college age now, right?

Not many people know he was the inspiration for Dorothy Hamill's prolific hairstyle. She credited him in her memoir My Life as a Female Bobsledder.

Casting him as Elvis in True Romance was both subtle and brave.

>>>Cassidy/Ethridge/Degeneress baby all grown

God, she's so beautiful and looks just like her dad.

edit.

thought E was joking that mark hamill was dorothy hamill's father and i was going with it.

She's a beautiful girl. Does anybody think she looks like a young Kurt Cobain? Kind of uncanny.

Back to Cassidy, man.

Jeff Chimenti credits his medicinal patents to the time Cassidy took him under his wing and mentoring.

::;sigh::;

it's been really hard for me to even open this thread till this morning.

i never even got to see him live and he was such a huge inspiration to me.

Like when prince passed, it feels like a bad dream I can't wake up from.

some of my earliest memories were watching old episodes of the monkees on tv, so David Cassidy was literally a childhood hero for me.

i know it might sound silly but his work on that show is what made me want to b a musician.

think I might need to take tomorrow off of work to try and process this.

it hurts so much.

if any of u older guys were lucky enough to ever see him perform, please share your stories here.

i'll never forget u, David!

<<<<earliest memories were watching old episodes of the monkees on tv, so David Cassidy was literally a childhood

It's sad, but we are all destined to take that Last Train to Clarkesville someday.

I was heartened to hear he and Graham Nash recently made public amends after all those years.

Here's Cassidy sitting in with Sly & The Family Stone @ Woodstock. Pretty amazing performance.

https://youtu.be/12M2xMx2eeU

>>>I was heartened to hear he and Graham Nash recently made public amends after all those years.

i'd like to believe that, bro but I think it was just death bed pr like when Robbie Robertson and Levon supposedly made amends.

no way Cassidy would forgive Nash after all the shit that went down.

have u read those tell all biographies?

scathing!

i don't know how those 2 guys were ever in the byrds together at the same time but goddamn that was some great music!

He always was my favorite Beatle.  Now it’s just Ringo left.

If I'm not mistaken Coyotte and Muletaper were huge Cassidy fob tapers back in the day.

I bet they've got some great stories about his roadies.

I got my first crispy '83 from Coyotte back on the old zone, but you know he still hoards some of those old reels for exclusive Hudson Valley listening parties.

Nice, 73'!

the early 80's really were Cassidy's second peak

agreed. very Travolta-esque in that regard.

And i never thought David would come back as strong as he did after allegedly exposing himself that crowd in Florida but he always defied expectations.

just one of the many reasons he was the best.

<<<i never thought David would come back as strong as he did after allegedly exposing himself that crowd in Florida but he always defied expectations

his arrest was a turning point for many.

i know he lost my mom at that point and his androgynous phase after that, while inspiring to millions, didnt help with the retention among her generation.

Cassidy on Ed Sullivan with The Beatles

https://youtu.be/12M2xMx2eeU

His sit-in with Jerry and the boys at that famous "show that never happened" is still talked about today.

Ahh the arrest. The moment of inspiration of his contribution to the timeless, Truckin song. Which then lead to the lyrics to the song that makes grown men cry, Willin.

im not sure if i liked Cassidy and Lacey more than his lead role in Mod Squad....its really a toss up...

i did see the show where Zeppelin,  Hendrix, and The Doors opened for him, though...he brought the goods always, for sure

Cassidy with the Stones, Altamont

https://youtu.be/12M2xMx2eeU

Jorma and Jack will be playing at the funeral, just announced.

No taping of course.

id be remiss, after my post about a cpl of his tv shows, if i didnt mention maybe his biggest stretch, and maybe his "biggest" role...he was freakin great as Lurch in the Munsters.

That cat loved his weed, whites and wine.

Cassidy singing 'We Are The World' in '85.

https://youtu.be/12M2xMx2eeU

God I forgot he had a hand in that. I believe he was actually instrumental in penning two of the verses with Dylan.

David's philanthropic work will not be forgotten, that is for sure.

i would've hated it if this thread went 100 posts without a mention of his groundbreaking work with his sister Marie on their much beloved 70s TV detective show.

Good call, monk.

ill b binge watching my box set of the show's entirety all day.

one benefit of the sad timing...we ll get to see all those holiday specials! im sure we ll get a turkey day showing of him in "its a wonderful life" and i always look forward to the animated favorite "A David Cassidy Christmas".....his dog decorating the  doghouse is just too funny

EAB14FF5-2593-4A60-885F-7D61FC0BFF8D.jpeg

we love you too

I wonder if John Popper is mixed up in this too somehow?

Solid, solid zoning in this thread.

RIP to a master.  He really brought a new life and energy to the Floyd when Syd had to step out...

He really bounced back after getting pulled over with all those pills in upstate New York.

This thread reminds me of the posting that made the Philzone great.

No disrespect to the David Cassidy's Almost Dead thread, but I thought he sucked with Phil.

>>>> This thread reminds me of the posting that made the Philzone great.

a wonderful example of zoner's of all stripes coming together in the face of tragedy.

did a great voiceover as Lancelot Link, or was he Mata Hari?

Although it was never publicized, David's father Jack was drunk one night and babbling about being a dark lord and ended up cutting off David's left hand. Although names and locations were changed, David went on to tell this, and other parts of his life after a party one night to George Lucas. This became the foundation for Star Wars.

Heard about David's passing this morning.  Good thing he rotted in jail...getting his fan club gals all frothed up killing Sharon Tate and her unborn baby.  Disgusting human Cassidy turned out to be.

Had David not been thrown out of Beach Boys' circle and subsequently been threatened with violence by Mike Love I believe those tragedies would never have ensued. Chalk this up as yet another thing we can blame Mike Love for.

i knew he didnt like coffee, but, cmon....

>>>>>Had David not been thrown out of Beach Boys' circle and subsequently been threatened with violence by Mike Love I believe those tragedies would never have ensued. Chalk this up as yet another thing we can blame Mike Love for.

so true and a big part of the reason Cassidy remained bitter enemies with John stamos till his dying breath.

Say what You will.

David  always was... On The Bus.

onthebus_1.jpg

Amazing photo, truly the ORIGINAL family band.

If you look closely you can actually see Sharon Tate in the background in that photo. Disturbingly enough I believe you can see she is leaning back with a tie-off on her arm, and John Stamos lighting a spoon.

If anybody wants a bootleg of Cassidy auditioning for the role of uncle Jessie on full house, email me.

im a little bias but I feel it transcends family based sitcoms.

i can understand y they ended up going with stamos, Cassidy's take on the character would have just been too powerful and woulda most certainly stole the show.

Schrodinger's Cas

If there were a ViZonie for trying too hard this thread would be tops. It was too easy to make fun of Cassidy while he was alive. Bagging on a dead David Cassidy just isn't all that funny.

Latex is reaching so hard, I think he might of dislocated his shoulder.

Here he is backstage with Brian’s at ECZJ

Don't b silly, hoov.

u know darn well that's not Brian D, it's clearly a dachshund.

Dave looks like a skinny Paul Williams there. Andy looks like he needs a sweater vest. You got me,,that's pretty funny. The dog is looking at the camera: 'something fucking weird is about to happen; please get me out!'

Glad you're on board with this thread now, Jonas.

i can understand u being skeptical at first, we all mourn differently.

Still not dead.

6722CD76-6553-4A04-AFD5-C0B1F11C48A5.jpegThe webcast of the funeral might not be free, from what I’m hearing. Here is the photo that will be on the cover of the commemorative funeral book, I think they made a great choice.

That's right.

Just got one o' them CNN alerts.

We don't need an alert, we've known about it for days now.

That was my take, as well.

He’s with the Lord now

NY Times is reporting he passed today.

After his death he still has the gift of keeping everyone guessing what's next.

backstreet's back, aliright!

This will be a Thanksgiving that everyone will remember.

Hmm.  Branded Partridge in A Pear Tree ornaments.  Put the Bonaduces into production now, as well.  Shouldn't be long.

((vibes for the beaver brown band))

I am noticing black armbands.

Damn it, he was the best admin viva ever had.

Judit, let me know if you’d like to activate junior admin in the interim while you look for his replacement.

We’re here to help.

Judit, if you'd like to share any memories of Cassidy's Monterey Pop performance, I know a lot of people would enjoy hearing about it.

I understand he basically levitated the venue when he broke out 'Come On Get Happy' and lit his guitar on fire. Legendary stuff.

It's still too tender a subject, Mark. Maybe when the shock has passed.

Even from beyond the grave David Cassidy's junior admin work is pointed and effective.

I’m pouring over the endless articles about David and his amazing life and came across this tidbit: “I couldn't write about why David's dog was named Hashish, because our nine-to-twelve-year-old readership didn't want to know that David enjoyed recreational drugs when he wasn't working. But we could publish page after page of him cuddling Sheesh (his public name for the pooch) and "confessing" how much he loved his young fans.”

he had a dog named hashish. can a person be any more perfect?

I understand, J. This has hit the community pretty hard.

Just got a notification that he passed today.

A farewell PZ salute is in order here...

Trying to remember what happened to the dad on The Partridge Family but I'm drawing a blank. Was there a father figure in the picture? Anyone, fill me in here.

Was the dad also the manager or A&R guy or whatever?

OH GREAT LETS STICK OUR FINGER IN THIS OLD WOUND AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS

Bill Kreutzmann noted in his 2015 memoir that he "got along really well" with David Cassidy and "thought he would have been the perfect guitarist to replace Bobby Weir if Garcia had the stones to turf [Weir] ". Although Kreutzmann added that "felt no animosity" toward Cassidy (after he spurned Kreutzmann’s recruiting efforts and joined former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten in the supergroup TC/DC), he also stated that he he did not consider Constanten to be a "card-carrying member of the Grateful Dead."

Here’s a picture of Bill with David Cassidy’s grandma at the funeral service.

I'm not going to lie, I custied up for the memorial service stream. I have a friend who actually went and was permitted to tap into the SBD, he also had some mics in the audience and I'm helping to splice and master the matrix (but won't be putting it on the archive, sorry folks, innies only).

oh my, had no idea what's been going on in here.

just getting caught up.

So jealous, ateix.

that's gonna b epic!

While it is no real surprise that Grandmama and DC are both as androgynous as the Grey Partridge, it is shocking that there was no place for the elder gamebird in the family rock band.

All I remember was that Mrs. Patridge was a widow...
