Fare You Well... the man who brought those hallowed instruments into this world

I was in the process of trying to get him on the ballot to be inducted into the Rochester NY Music Hall of Fame due to his ties to the area, very sad to not see this happen while he was here.

wow! cool effort ^^^
maybe write a letter to his family to let them know or arrange a posthumous induction?

RIP Doug Irwin.

I'm reminded of Irwin's fight to get Tiger and Wolf back almost 25 years ago.

RIP. At least he died knowing he crafted a 12 million dollar instrument.

Rest In Peace, Doug Irwin, Master Guitar Luthier, and All around good guy.

I had the pleasure of meeting Doug just one time, at a Cal Expo (Sacramento) Grateful Dead Show. It was one of the sweetest Dead venues ever, and we chatted by the big ass speakers cranking out sweet Dead music live, and we were in the Beer Garden, no less! Such good times and a very pleasant memory!

I had heard that Doug could get a bit freaked sometimes at the astonishing energy his craftwork helped unleash! Imagine being the person who crafted the pied pipers flute?! Well, Ol’ Doug did that quite literally! I’ve seen Jerry play Doug’s midi-synthesizer inlayed Guitars that have literally flute, sax or oboe effects, and it’s been said that Jerry could make his guitar sound better than a real flautist!

The legend goes, as I understand it, that one day back in the 1970s , Doug was in his workshop in the back room of his retail store. His Counter employee came in the back one day and said “Hey Doug, Jerry Garcia’s out front and he wants to talk to you about a guitar.” I think Doug told him to quit fooling around and get back to work. Ha ha! Jerry really was there and that began a decades-long, groundbreaking musical and technological revolution!

Just another day in the life of a Luthier!

At least he lived long enough to see one of his guitars used in an ad campaign for a cheap whiskey...
