The legendary New Orleans singer and pianist Fats Domino, known for hits like "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't It A Shame" has died.

He was 89.

Fats domino was still alive?

Until recently.

Well, good for him!

Saw him on a double bill with Jerry Lee Lewis in 1986. Got his autograph by chance after the show. Still have it.

RIP

I always thought he was cooler than chubby checker.

i suppose u guys r gonna tell me that fat, twistin', SOB is still alive as well?

>>>>Fats domino was still alive?

That was my first reaction.  I recently picked up a cassette (that's right) of his greatest hits.  Good tunes.  Apparently, his rocking piano playing triggered a riot in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1956. The police resorted to using tear gas to break up the unruly crowd.  RIP.

FYI - He was first reported dead in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina flooded his NOLO home and the piano player could not be found and was presumed drowned.  He was later rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter.

Wow, Chubby Checker is still alive.

Buff Love from The Fat Boys is dead though.

whew! for a minute I thought it said Fat Donna

RIP to one of the pioneers of Rock & Roll.  His work with Dave Bartholomew from the late 1940's through the mid 1960's was one of the greatest runs in popular music in the 20th Century.  A cornerstone of what has come to be known as New Orleans R&B.

Following Chuck Berry's passing this past March, this leaves Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis as the surviving titans of early Rock & Roll.

One of my long-time employees and friends is flying back from New Orleans today after a ten day visit.  What a way to finish the trip.

I'm gonna go fire up the original Fatman who rocked.

Go straight to the stars Mr. Antoine Domino.

Not sure how tall he was, but "The Fat Man" allegedly weighed 200 lbs, which really isn't that much by today's American standards.

I recently purchased the EMI 1990 comp "My Blue Heaven, The Best of Fats Domino", so that's what's on at work today.  Blue Heaven, indeed.

Rest In Peace.

And thank you for the musical legacy that you have left us with.

Here's some good footage from a festival in France in 1987 with Dave Bartholomew, Herbert Hardesty and Lee Allen:
