“It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today.
Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does. Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time."

Damn.
Damn. RIP Ross.
70s Skynyrd was the shit. I lost a lot of interest in hard rock when Skynyrd's plane crashed.
But one thing that REALLY made me love Skynyrd, above and beyond their music — which of course was great as is — was when they were touring during the 70s recession — circa 1975(?) — and announced that any unsold tix at their gigs would be given as free admissions to anyone who showed their unemployment card. True story. And that is the real deal.

End of an era. Fly high
End of an era. Fly high Freebird
Whose left? Rickey who only rejoined post crash after a long career with Blackfoot and Artimus, who has been estranged from the band for a long time. Think one of the Honkettes might still be kicking too
Wonder if Gary will join Billy and Leon with fancy graves across from Ronnie and his family?
Wonder if they will still use the LS moniker?

3/11/2006 @ The Beacon
3/11/2006 @ The Beacon Theater, I got to see Gary Rossington sit in with The Allman Brothers Band on 'Simple Man'. Gregg & Warren growled out the vocals with Gary & The boys shredding guitars. Just amazing!

Saw the opening night of the Street Survivors Tour 10/15/1977 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida, and the Rossington Collins Band at the old Tangerine Bowl in Orlando.
