Day-O-No

The daylight has come to take him home.
RIP

Respectable human being! May he rest in eternal peace! heart

Taylor Branch has a three volume history of the Civil Rights movement (read it!).

He described Belafonte flying into Selma to give Dr. King cash for the Selma to Montgomery march following Bloody Sunday on the Edmund Pettis bridge.

RIP Movement Man.

Sound track of my childhood. My parents were big fans. RIP

His performance in BlacKkKlansman was powerful.  Director Spike Lee had every cast and crew member wear formal attire the day they shot his scenes as a sign of respect.

I had the privilege to see the Mr. Belafonte during the summer of 1968 in Washington DC. It was the summer of my turning 16, and my coming age. I was sent on 40 day and night teen tour by my grandparents. Little did they or my parents know I would depart a shy and uncertain 15 year old and come home a hippie. Harry Belafonte in DC and the Doors in Vancouver Canada. I have vivid memories of my time in San Francisco, and basically every place we visited has a cool story attached.  I still have some Polaroids tucked away. Talk about a long strange trip. On those warm summer nights I can sometimes still hear his voice echo through the years.
RIP Harry.

what a great human being.

rest in peace mr belafonte.

He was a huge crossover talent, and as others have noted here, a fine human being from the sounds of it.

Fare thee well, Harry Belafonte.

And what a long life... "May his memory be a blessing". He will be missed. Among other things, he inspired an interest in Caribbean music that sent folks there to find new stuff... which may even be responsible for the evolution of Calypso/Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae...
