RIP John Mayall

Glad I saw him  in the early 70's - and later in the 90's

One of the all time greats and a legend --  Farewell.

Saw him several years ago in a 650 capacity theater in the Philly suburbs. He was with a much younger band and as he walked onstage I thought.... oh no, is going to be painful to watch?

Nope. The man was playing keys and guitar and singing and ripped it up!

RIP John..................

Consistently in the background with a band of killers, the dude could assemble players.

i saw the re-lining up of John, John McVie and Mick Taylor in the early eighties

rip John

How many great guitar players did he introduce us to?

This hurts. After a day warming up at McSorley's Old Ale House, one of my top 5 concerts ever was John and the Breakers at the Beacon Theater June 19, 1982--Collin Allard, Mick Taylor, John McVie.  It was hot, sweaty and amazing. Saw him a few times afterwards, met him at his Napa concert 10 years ago.

RIP John--you are the blues

Other than Bobby falling down at the Cap, John Mayall at the Fillmore took the cake as most wasted performer I've ever seen play.

Despite being sloppy drunk, he still put on a very good show and unlike Weir, no chair necessary.

I just dug out a Mayall ticket stub from 1975 Constitution Hall Wash DC (that I wrote Sugarcane Harris and Larry Taylor on the back of.) I sorta remember he didn't like the audience that night. They clapped too much.

Fun Fact: I also remember reading way back when that Mayall had one of the largest porn collections in the world. In magazine times.

>>> most wasted performer

This should be it's own thread

>> most wasted performer

He was famous for being anti drug for years.

Another legend gone.  Thanks for all the good times.  R I P John, well deserved.

Saw him about 24 years ago at Nectar's in Burlington.   Thought he looked older than dirt then but I guess he was only in his 60s.   Music was just meh for such a legend.  RIP.

The mole Larry Taylor played for him. So did Jesse Davis. Harvey Mandel, Peter Green, Rocky athas, mick Taylor, ec, Walter trout, koko Montoya and a hundred other bluesmen. And women (carolyn wonderland)

In my estimation; the biggest figure in all history of the British blues

And Clapton
