John McCain is a great American patriot-whether you like his politics or not-I have not agreed with him most of the time. However he is one of the only current Republican politicians with the spine and guts to question the amoral Trump regime. He has called out Trump repeatedly for his lack of decency, knowledge and crassness as his colleagues sit idly deaf, dumb and blind as their party gets torn apart from within. John McCain is my favorite Republican in a landslide-not because of his conservatism-but as the only beacon of light shining on Trump's excesses. We will miss him profoundly as a nation.
 

McCain is a mixed bag for sure.  Lets not forget that the reason we even got to this point is that somebody decided that it would be a good idea to put Sarah Palin on a national ticket.  I always felt like one big reason he was critical of Trump was to atone for his part in making President Trump happen.

He did stick it to him on that health care vote though, so there is that.  Kind of funny, not sure if I have posted about this.  The day of the Obamacare vote, I attended an evensong service at Grace Cathedral in SF, where McCain's daughter had gotten married.  The priest was talking about leadership and did a parable about prophets, and then said that John McCain should be our prophet and leader. I thought that was very strange and remarked on that later at dinner.  Then that night, he gave the thumbs down.  I am wondering if the priest knew it was coming.

I'm just now wrapping up my first week of school, which is always nerve-racking for me. Before it starts I always worry about my own level of motivation and what my students will be like, and I must say that overall I'm feeling pretty good about my motivation (so far) and I'm really happy with my students, which is great and isn't always the case.

So far they seem like a good group who I might actually be able to help, which most definitely helps with my personal motivation, so yes, I did have a good week.
