One Direction came to the radio station I worked at about 10 years ago now and it was the closest thing to Beatle mania that I got to witness. Packs of teenage girls who had won the chance to meet them running down the corporate hallways screaming, and then outside a mob of thousands shut down Battery street at like 10 am on a weekday just running around screaming. It was crazy because I didn't even know who they were.
One Direction singer Liam Payne, 31, whose chart-topping British boy band generated a global following of swooning fans, was found dead Wednesday after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, local officials said.
