RIP Mel Stottlemyre

I was never much of a Yankee fan, but always thought Mel was a class act.  In the early 70's, he was one of the few good players on some bad Yankee teams.  Mel and Bobby Murcer were about the only two who's cards you'd hold onto.

RIP

This.

Coolest name I read/heard today.

Stots was by far the best pitching coach of any Pro New York Baseball team in all pro years combined.

mel also interviewed very well after the games.

Mel was at many historic challenging junctures at various points of the seasons and post seasons, with a myriad of resolutions, from of some of the best pitchers of all time.

He was a victim of atrocious NY Yankee Announcing; who is now doing a great job.

No one knew who he was as a player and his baseball was worthless as a kid

1964-1974 were not the beefy years.

NY Yankee fans adore this man.

Surprised they didn't retire his number 30. RIP Mel.

He was a genius with Andy Petit and has the rings to prove it.

I remember with the yanks in the 60's

In 1969 he won 20 games and threw 24 complete games. A different era for sure. Fritz Peterson and Mike Kelich were also on those Yankee teams.

He pitched at my first game, August ‘69 versus the Senators.....Hora e Clark lead off LOL!
