RIP Rita Houston-Star WFUV DJ

Forums:

Anyone in the NY area who listens to WFUV knows who Rita Houston was. She passed away today sadly after a 6 year battle with cancer. Rita was a champion of new music, and a self-proclaimed DeadHead. She was the head of programming at WFUV and had a weekly Friday night show called The Whole Wide World which showcased new music, while paying homage to the classics. A true NY original-she will be missed.

Bummer.  TWWW was great radio.

Rita sounded pretty rough at times over the last year.

She'll be missed.

Right, Bluestnote. Her voice was strained but she soldiered on.

A big loss.

So sad.  What a great star of radio she was.

Glad she was able to touch so many people with her gifts. WFUV is well-known across the nation as one of the good ones. Love and comfort going out to all she inspired.

I'm saddened to hear of the passing of WFUV-FM Radio Legend Rita Houston. Rita brought passion, love, light and an unparalleled depth of knowledge to the NY Area Music scene and far beyond. Prayers and condolences to all who knew, loved and listened to her... ❤️
