R.I.P. Sly Dunbar

Wow this is sad. I hadn't even heard he was sick. I'm actually listening to the Mighty Diamonds album The Right Time this very minute. Sly's Drumming has been such a constant in my life, and for many millions of others. That he would be gone is really something that never even crossed my mind. I feel fortunate enough to have seen him perform probably a dozen times or more.

To put it simply he was an actual moving force in the world and probably the closest thing to the actual heartbeat of reggae music.

Thank you Sly and peace to your loved ones. I hope we cross paths on some future plane.

A TRUE LEGEND

robbie passed not too long ago.

is ANYONE making roots reggae anymore?

:/

One word.

Infidels.

After Jerry left us, I got more into reggae and especially dub and electronic music. Was lucky enough to see Sly & Robbie, at least 4 times that I can specifically remember. Two of those times being at the hallowed SF Maritime Hall - you may remember our leader Phil had some memorable shows there. (Side note: so many great shows at the Maritime in the late 90s early 2000s - those were some good times for seeing shows, for me personally anyway.)

Saw them as Sly & Robbie doing drum n bass stuff a couple of times; and also saw them doing Black Uhuru material. They were such a huge part of reggae and dub music. The last time I saw Sly & Robbie was at the Independent in SF, maybe 10 years ago? Sly was wearing his hard hat as Turtle mentions. Another one of my heroes gone.

The one that got me hooked. Those drums in Boof 'n' Baff 'n' Biff!!! Then there was a remix album which is a whole other level...
