Woman Shares Why She Was Allegedly Ticketed by Cops For Wearing Crop Top

In the video captioned "make it make sense," Casey said she got ticketed for indecent exposure in Winnfield, Louisiana.

"All of my bits are covered," Casey said as she turned to show the entire outfit, which she said she was wearing at the time of the incident. Her black t-shirt covered her shoulders and stopped above the beltline of her pants and tied in the back, revealing a couple of inches of midriff. Her jean shorts were coupled with a jeweled, chunky belt. "The f**k? Are you kidding me?" she asked

Sad day in America

B6F8B16A-D04D-4809-8A36-E98486314AE9.jpego

If you're sad and mad, consider supporting the ACLU, as they work in coalition with women's health organizations to fight the legal battles, state by state.

I guess it's because one is considered covered by the constitution and the other is not?

>> I guess it's because one is considered covered by the constitution and the other is not?

Plenty of stuff conservatives love isn't explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, like executive privilege for one thing

Christofascist that's my word of the day.

They are certainly not the majority of opinion around the United States, even though it might seem so in certain areas around the country.

They have far too much influence on the body politic.

So the puritans impose their religious views on the nation, once again....

I'm no fan of abortion, but at the end of the day, it's simply a medical procedure, and Doctor / Patient confidentiality is the bedrock issue for me.  During my hospital tenure, I saw all kinds of brutal decisions being made that no government nor religious zealot should have anything to do with. It should always be up to the individual, and if they want to bring others in on that decision, that's their right, or use to be anyway...

> Christofascist that's my word of the day.

By Briank (Briank) on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 – 03:19 pm

The US is 22% Catholic, yet 78% (7/9) of the Supreme Court is Catholic.

The other 2 are Jewish.

>>>I'm no fan of abortion

You can't make abortion illegal without criminalizing every pregnancy that ends in miscarriage, and if you don't think prosecutors in Republican states aren't going to pursue those cases you haven't been paying attention.

And now the supreme court is going to have a few abortions. Will they let Joe fill the empty seats if the judges are murdered ?

These religious zealots aren't stopping at abortion. Read Justice Thomas' concurring opinion wherein he states: "in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell." Those are the cases that legalized same sex marriage and relationships and established the right to contraception.

>>>Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell

He left out Loving which was decided using the same legal precedent. Hmmm I wonder why he would leave out the ruling that made interracial marriage legal.

No one gets laid tonight.

Except consensual sex isn't how most of these ChristoFascists get laid

>>>I'm no fan of abortion

then don't fuckin have one. That's what choice means.

I'm not a fan of the government forced birth, infanticide, orphans and pregnant young girls and women dying in back ally abortions - all of which will drastically increase thanks to the GOP.

^^^^ well-played

....why does the state try to control only women on this issue? (yes, we know the answer)

I get the gravity of "everything" but don't forget about the secondary, tertiary, or beyond notion that they are coming for Canna and all things Blue too. Please understand that I am not in any way discounting the main issues at hand today all the while.

I have been telling people since the draft ruling was leaked it seems what they really want is to roll things back all the way to dred scott. Do they really want to reset everything to where we have a loose confederation of states with disparate rights? I hope this is a wakeup call to everyone that our government is completely broken and our constitution is a ridiculous failure.

Christ had nothing to do with it.

dt who loaded the court is a Godless monkey.

The majority of court members are Godless monkeys regardless of their faith.

But they sure know how to manipulate the brainless.

Amerika is the anti-Christ.

Good job Boomers

Rationalize it any way you want, Ras.

This is the foundation of a Christofascist Theocracy.

^^^^^

And now the supreme court is going to have a few abortions. Will they let Joe fill the empty seats if the judges are murdered ?<<<

Which judges?

As utterly terrible as this ruling is, it is not "the ball" we need to keep our eyes on.

The SCOTUS operates within a larger context of the Rule of Law as embraced by society at large.

The January 6 committee has documented how the former President and SITTING members of Congress had attempted a coup.

These forces are STILL at work trying to dismantle our Democracy.

Getting back to "the judges":  as the light of day shines more upon the truth of Jan 6 and Trump's efforts to overturn the election, there will be a Newtonian response from his supporters to ratchet up its vitriol and turn to violence as one of the last remaining tools available after a mountain of facts and logical reasoning have negated their already extremely tenuous position.  A version of a "Night of the Long Knives" is what I've been fearing for a while.  Unfortunately, it looks as if we're inching closer to the precipice.

states rights!

unless its something we don't like!

How the fuck does that little turd blossom Goetz, among many of other similars, brag on Twitter about begging dumbo for a sweeping pardon when 'rule of law' clearly states a minimum 10-year prison sentence? Our DOJ is just as piss poor as the longtime fkn boomer class across Congress who only know how to talk emptily and stay rich.

Just like dumbo, many of them know or care  NOTHING about the actual Constitution or basic govt functions and how it all works (should work) and was (WAS) set up. We have sweepingly been sold out to Corp warloads who have paid these fucking assholes for the opportunity to do so.

> Rationalize it any way you want, Ras.

Well, that's just it. Faith doesn't rely on reason. You just believe what you've been told to believe.

Ras, you may believe that bullshit bill of goods but be hopeful/glad that you may have chosen the 'right one' because countless others are at risk of losing their freedoms to practice theirs. Again, that fkn bullshit has no place in our govt and this has been a slow-moving train wreck over decades because we have not adhered to it.

this is why sleepy joe should have continued the court packing from day one

I say continued because that is precisely what the republicans had already successfully done twice. First they packed the court to eight (by blocking garland) when the "sacred" window was open for them to do so. Then they packed it back to up nine four years later when the shoe was on the other foot and the window briefly reopened again.

The failure of the president in his refusal to consider adding justices is now laid bare

"Packing" isn't just adding justices, it's manipulating the outcome of potential decisions mathematically, by adding or subtracting justices, purely for political reasons. This is and has already been the standard. It is now precedent that joe has simply refused to acknowledge or follow.

I am not saying I agree with this tactic. I am not saying it is "good". I am merely recognizing it is the political reality in which America exists.

I don't put this decision by the court on sleepy joe. I do put his refusal to preempt the court's action squarely on his shoulders.

You can keep blaming Biden too because he is too fkn stupid and stubborn to realize how stupid and stubborn he is being and has been. He looks even more ridiculous to now come out all big and bad, demanding that Congress codify RvW which is NOT happening by any stretch. He has done Jack shit to help the country (other than help deliver us from evil dumbo term #2) and wasted valuable time and energy merely chattering on about the  the zero issues of student loan forgiveness (real people like you and I have to pay that complete nonsense by the way) and fkn slavery reparations, both of which will not deliver the propping-up of votes he thinks they will. He has also clearly not helped the D party build a future base of candidates who can win. Fuck this guy. He is obviously just another part of the rot and poison that we endure.

Only Congress can expand the court.

Biden cannot remove judges, nor can he add seats.

The President appoints, Congress confirms.

Please specify how Biden can do what you say.

hey manchin is surprised beer guy and maga gal ruled against roe....!

well....golly!

^Yep. If Biden tries to run again, it is nearly guaranteed that Pence or Desantis takes the reins and that is almost a foregone conclusion as it is anyway.

We cannot change the Supreme court justices but we can change or representatives. Vote the bastards out

it is almost like the Republicans are trying to lose votes

mold our party to be more inclusive of black and brown skin voters, ah naw, let's just become more racist

how do we get more women voters - oh let's make abortion illegal, that will do it

how do we make the country stronger - oh let's hang Mike Pence and deny the winner of the election even though there is 0 proof

lets strengthen our education system - let's burn books that reveal we were a racist country at one time, and re-write history that we were the good guys

...I know a grip of folks on here hate DeadCo but Weir is going to be spitting fire tonight in Chicago. Good thing he has a little time to cool off before Indiana on Tue.

>^Yep. If Biden tries to run again, it is nearly guaranteed that Pence or Desantis takes the reins and that is almost a foregone conclusion as it is anyway.

I am convinced that until we get people with more public fame than Trump to denounce Trump and what happened on January 6th. things will continue on the road we are on. Some A list celebrities need to step up and rip D-list celebrity Trump, and that not only includes the Jan 6 committees findings, but the next election of Trump somehow manages to run again

Neither Biden or Harris has a shot at winning the next election, no matter who they run against

Mike Pence is never going to be president.

The number of justices is not set by the constitution

The rest is all parliamentary stuff that dems (including biden) simply don't have the same political will to engage as their adversaries obviously do, and have done.

Biden could have taken action and put the onus of this on the senate right away. That was his only choice, and chance, to avoid what we just got.

As we know, the president chooses to appoint. Not appointing is also a choice.

They lied to get the job. They should be impeached.

>Mike Pence is never going to be president.<

I swore the same thing up and down when dumph was running in 2016. I understand your reasoning and rationale (trumplicans hate him, he doesn't have the support, etc) but stay tuned. He is out there laying the most serious groundwork of any other potential candidate.

> number of justices is not set by the constitution<

Only Congress can expand the court.

The legislation is DOA in the Senate.

There are neither the votes to overcome the filibuster, nor to abolish th filibuster.

>as we know, the president chooses to appoint. Not appointing is also a choice<

There have been no vacancies to fill, he cannot add seats. Your criticism is not based in fact.

Labor laws? Not mentioned in the constitution, so..

Lumber this criticism is totally based in fact, please quit picking and choosing pieces of my argument.

the fact is he never tried because he also lazily assumed "DOA in the senate", instead of using the last eighteen months, consistently, as leverage, to put heat on Arizona and West Virginians and their D senators (specifically regarding court "packing" and filibusters) in the lead up to this decision.

Please don't conflate an Democrat party political issue for a constitutional one.

And now we will live with that inaction, and fight from a position of weakness, now trying to first regain 50 years of lost ground before any more progress could ever happen. Good luck?

Biden's approval rating - even Pence would beat him, a wet rag would also be favored in an election

"Trump Privately Called a Roe v. Wade Reversal 'Bad' for His Party"

even an idiot can see it

 >fact is he never tried because he also lazily assumed "DOA in the senate", instead of using the last eighteen months, consistently, as leverage, to put heat on Arizona and West Virginians and their D senators <

Biden received 29% of the vote in West Virginia. He has no political or financial leverage over Manchin, none.

Biden didn't assume it was DOA in the Senate,  Manchin immediately ruled out expanding the court and eliminating the filibuster.

Joe Manchin's approval rating has jumped 16 points in West Virginia since Biden took office

There again, people need to get involved early and often in primary season and even before that really. Otherwise, as ever, we will be stuck trying to kiss ass to complete food blisters like this fool and many others.

There was a choice to put the onus on the senate or not to.

A or B

Manchin (nor any of his D peers) ever even had a chance to dig their heels in because sleepy joe forfeited from the start.

Manchin is a democrat. This isn't and was never some kind of unsolvable math problem, it's squarely a Democrat political problem.

well, it was. Now it's not anymore.

In summary; Joe's desire not to blow up his own party establishment won over protecting women's reproductive rights.

>Manchin (nor any of his D peers) ever even had a chance to dig their heels in because sleepy joe forfeited from the start<

Manchin dug in his heels immediately following Biden's election. He has been adamant about preserving the filibuster. There are not 60 votes in the Senate to overcome the filibuster.

>Manchin is a democrat. This isn't and was never some kind of unsolvable math problem, it's squarely a Democrat political problem<

and you can rest assured,  when one of the shithole repub congressperson's young daughter gets pregnant, those internet abortion pills will be flying through the mail.

My argument is that your blame is misdirected. Biden does not have the authority to expand the court.

Congress doesn't have the votes to expand the court nor the votes to codify abortion rights.

Manchin immediately ruled out expanding the court, and he has repeatedly refused to eliminate the filibuster.

Much of Manchin's financial support comes from Republican donors. Biden is extremely unpopular in West Virginia with a 33% approval rating, while Manchin's approval rating is 57%.

Manchin doesn't care what Biden says.

Biden has no leverage.

And Manchin voted with Republicans against an abortion rights bill in May.

Each and every one of those very nicely built and fortified money-collection structures that sit empty, littering neighborhoods and towns across the country  pay/contribute zero tax too......well, we all actually pay more to allow that to happen.

with penalties of up to 99 years for having an abortion or aiding and abetting an abortion in Red States, wouldn't it be peachy  to see aforementioned folks in jail?

I mean, in normal cases I would vehemently oppose such draconian punishments for reproductive health care, but until these hypocrites are exposed, and held accountable for their "crimes" of abortion (aiding and abetting), nothing will change. I know, it's all so icky.

I sense revolution in the air..

Except they won't get/be publicly exposed. You know the drill.

I don't know. this is WAR. *Women aren't going to take this lying down. We are half the population. And we have allies among the sensible male species.

and where is the fairness of removing reproductive healthcare services for women in which 4 of the 5 responsible for this were men?

Hmm, Elon Musk is currently paying for Texas Tesla employees to travel out of State to obtain abortions

Who wants to collect the bounty on his head for aiding and abetting?

Elf...

In addition, abortion wasn't illegal in any states before today. In confirmation  hearings, all recently appointed justices stated that Roe was settled law and in no danger of being overturned.

Over the past 18 months, had Biden used the threat to Roe to undertake a pressure campaign on Manchin to expand the court, it would have been dismissed a poorly veiled attempt to pack the court in order turn America into a Socialist County.  Afterall, Roe was still the law of the land.

Musk is clearly a real piece of work. Nice symbolic gesture but he has already caved to the "low tax" (not really) pisshole that is TX while subjecting any employee(s) whom may have had almost had no choice but to follow him there to the load of other problems that come with living there (...or AZ, a variety of other SE garbage cans, etc). The power (AC) has never gone out in my current LA residence in the 3 years I have lived here, for example, but none of the people I know in TX, AZ, or FL can come close to even imagining that scenario. 911 systems are apparently similarly flimsy.

i hope VPN services see a monstrous uptick in signups this weekend.

Lumber have you ever been incited so strongly to fight, even when you didn't particularly want to?

Maybe you were already vulnerable and wounded, and you also knew the probability was quite high that you would lose?

Did you fight? Maybe you sat on your hands instead. Maybe you fought and went all in, and even surprised yourself a little with a victory? Or maybe you lost.

If you lost, did you die?

I mean - maybe you didn't get elected to a second term, but that was never on the table to begin with...

Admittedly my frustration is really with the total absence of leadership and strategy on the part of Democrats here. Just awful. With net losses this huge, this presidency is turning into even less than a place holder in American history.

Biden has no leverage with Manchin.

In addition to the above, Biden has had to reestablish our international relationships, so badly damaged under Trump.  Covid continuing, inflation, a war in Europe, an increasingly provocative China... Ending the filibuster and expanding the court just haven't been in the cards.

"States brace for fight over gun laws after high court ruling"

https://www.yahoo.com/news/states-brace-fight-over-gun-050544630.html

Nice Venn, LOLLO.

June 18, 2001 (day after Father's Day) was the worst day of my life.

My wife and I had a 20 week ultrasound appointment and we were told that our "Peanut" had no amniotic fluid and that she would surely die.  We were devastated.  After receiving a second opinion, we realized that she wouldn't survive long enough to reach full term.  We made the difficult, but informed, decision to schedule a D&C on June 26.  During that week, Peanut's heart rate slowed to half the tempo that she had on the 18th and her movements decreased to the point that her mother could barely feel them.  We named her "Irene" after her great grandmother, whom my wife adored.

It was a horrific experience, but today, my wife and I looked at each other and wondered aloud if she would have survived if the restrictions that are going into effect across the country were in place during our darkest hour.

I could have lost my wife and would have never known my two wonderful (if sometimes challenging) kids.

This is a very sad day...

It is a very sad day, indeed. Hugging you from afar, John.

And today is infuriating. And horrible, sickening, incredible, so many words.

Considering that people of color have abortions at a much higher rate than white people, it's odd that the racist Right (many of whom are concerned they're being replaced by people of color) would want to deny access to abortion for people of color.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Christ, here. He has been hijacked by extremist assholes, on both sides of this argument. But yes it has everything to do with religion. This is an Old Testament Patriarchy that rules. Women do what their rabbis, fathers and husband's tell them to do. Old T is bullshit brimstone, New T is hope.

What's happening in the US is Christofascism.  You're just too fucking stupid to see it.

Fuck You, Ras. I don't, have never, or will ever believe that bullshit fairy tale but you can be glad to live in a free country where you may.

...and since you like throwing out advice and invitations, I would most cordially like to invite you to Go Fuck Yourself. Maybe jesus wants to join you.

This might draw fire, but it seems to me that the righteous anger this thread is rapidly descending into should be aimed at the racist, religious Right, and not each other.

^Mike, this is not the first dust up between Ras and myself. The sentiment I expressed is genuine, and not a product of this particular thread/issue.

I hear you, OCLT, but infighting on the Left is one of the reasons they're so ineffective against the more unified Right.

^Then you certainly won't approve on my take regarding the "both parties are the same " and the "lesser of two evils is still evil " crowd.

Ras, when you're finished preaching to the pedophiles and groomers in the Catholic Church, you can turn your attention to the pedophiles and groomers in the Southern Baptist Convention.

Remind me of what your take is?

^A quick unnuanced summary...

That they bear a huge amount of responsibility for where we are today. The current court was made possible with the 2016 election, a Supreme Court seat was literally on the ballot. Yet folks who adhere and advance the stated positions helped swing the election to Trump, and gave the US three more Christofascist Justices.

I'd say that's fairly nuanced. I'll add that for all their social justice activity the Left has gotten really complacent in some very fundamental ways. The anti-abortion movement, including the stacking of the Supreme Court, played out in a very public way over decades, and the Left was unable to thwart it because of its lack of a unified focus.

Radicalized normie thread.

Indeed, Mike, the aforementioned crowds have played a big part in that as well.

Burn it down.

As much as I like a good conflagration, I think "tear it up"--meaning the Constitution--would be a better solution. Our system has been gamed, and should probably be rebooted and revised from the ground up.

And I'll throw this in from Utah....Unbelievable.  https://twitter.com/i/status/1540537530369642497

Friday -

Rep. Karianne Lisonbee described a text message she said she received urging her to hold men accountable for unwanted pregnancies.

“I got a text message today saying I should seek to control men’s ejaculations and not women’s pregnancies ... I do trust women enough to control when they allow a man to ejaculate inside of them and to control that intake of semen,” the Clearfield Republican told reporters at a news conference at the Utah Capitol on Friday.

Saturday, after the reactions -

Lisonbee clarified her comments in a text message to The Salt Lake Tribune on Saturday, saying her remarks at the press conference did not accurately reflect what she intended to say.

“Women do not have a choice when they are raped and have protections under Utah’s trigger law. My first statement in the press conference made clear the actions I have taken to pass bills that provide legal protection and recourse to victims of sexual assault. The political and social divide in America seems to be expanding at an ever-faster pace. I am committed to ongoing respectful and civil engagement. I can always do better and will continue to try,” Lisonbee said.

....except that it is not at all unbelievable. How long have you lived there?

^ And yet, believable.

More companies joining in to help with travel costs (this is the second graphic I've seen)

That's all fine and well but also sort of half-baked and a shallow attempt to "make a statement". They should uproot and let some of those pissholes figure out their own way without helping provide employment and cash flows to the associated local govts. You know, leverage their money and clout in more meaningful ways.

So, vaginas have  the magic power  to repel unwanted sex and unintended pregnancy. where have we heard this before? Oh yes, Rep.Todd Akin from Missouri. 'Legitimate rape' rarely leads to pregnancy..

Yeah, I know. Too long. Wish the landscape wasn't so pretty. But may be out sooner than later.

The bitch behind her is Utah's answer to Phyllis Shaffly, Gayle Ruzicka. Wrote a song about her, promising to buy her a burka for her religious jihad, In the end she melts like the wicked witch of the west.

Today  -  mississippi's only abortion clinic blasting "i won't back down" by tom petty at the anti-abortion protesters...

And I hear Lloyd Austin of the DOD is looking at providing health care to our female soldiers, no matter where they are based.

"Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce, and DOD families. I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force.

The Department is examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive health care as permitted by federal law."

Yes, Strawbud, it falls short of many things they could do, and real meaning, but if it helps their employees I'm all for it.

I almost thought you wrote that she was the persona of Syphilis itself. At any rate, yea, I see that Gale is still dead.

promoting paying for abortions while union busting at the same time

I'd truly love to hear how they square that one

If you're talking about Apple, they'll gloss over it with design features. If you're talking about Starbucks, they'll explain it to you over a latte.

Slick, I get it and understand that each person has their own set of "everything" going on. I have uprooted and bolted 3 times in my life without losing ground and will most likely do it again. I currently live, for example, almost within walking distance to/from the Hollywood-Burbank airport and within an hour of La Hacienda, I feel very fortunate to have access to some absolutely amazing natural features and landscapes that entail less traffic and hassle than you would likely endure trying to to get up any of the adjacent canyons to the SL valley. Just some food for thought. I know it seems that you are addicted to the red rock desert and for very good reason. I may come across harsh and over-opinionated here and while I basically have zero excuse, these are trying times and I encourage and respect whatever people have to do to "get through the night."

...except for Gale Ruzicka, Donald Trump, and John Wayne Gacy. Just Kidding. Sort of.

Anyone notice that the states pushing forward to outlaw abortion are also the states with the worst schools?

^ that is seemingly inherently by design, alongside shitty labor laws (right to work BS, etc), low wages, shitty govt services, typically more rampant racism & sexism, the fake cloak of "low taxes", etc, etc

...and it's entirely tragic and sad that "Mayor Pete" is a zillion times smarter and more capable than Biden ever could be, yet way too many people in this country won't vote for him or help furthermore advance him in govt because he is a gay man. Biden gave him a token position as a former rival in which he is doing a great job but that may be the end of the line for him but I seriously hope not.

trumps legacy secured, he is God now in the eyes of the right

This decision will have a devastating impact on red states.

How will Bubba ever be able to get his sister/cousin/girlfriend an abortion now ?

Blue states at least know what contraception is and usually use it. That's why thomas is gunning for that next, and same sex hook ups.

I notice he's not mentioning inter racial marriage that pos hypocrite mutherfucker.

While I very much sympathize with women in particular in red states, the political ramifications and  more widespread 'damage' to blue states is almost just as bad in terms of EC vote dillusion and political representation. There is actually a negative benefit if/when blue states get more blue with the potential influx of residents/voters in "protest", rather than stick around and be a political pain in the ass in the red states/areas wherever those same people may currently live.

Ras, how do you square your "liberal" views on contraception with those of your church and does that equate to you being an outcast heathen? No big deal, I knew a mormon guy back in UT who tried parsing it too by saying, "well, there are quite a few parts of it that I definitely don't believe......"

dillusion<<

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dillusion

Actual words may make your argument more persuasive.

Apologies.

Dilution would be more correct. It may be weird if  you had no idea what I meant. Auto-correct can get the better of things too.

I worked my way through the dillusion, but I'm still stuck on what EC vote is.

Electoral College. Again, apologies.

Gotcha. I was trying to make "East Coast" work there, and it just wouldn't gel for me.

It's screwed up because imagine, if you will, if a vast swath D voters moved to CA or even any of the West Coast states. National red rule forever.

I don't square with the church at all man, never really have. It was always super boring, totally uninspiring and somewhat creepy. In my entire 63 years I had like 2 priests who were inspirational. One was Father Richard Shelman who had been married for 40 and after his wife passed he got ordained. What a great guy you could talk to about literally  anything (he was a pharmacist in his lay life, we spoke the same language). Gotta go, talk more later.

We need to monitor every breeding-age female's menstrual cycles to make sure she doesn't murder her child.

Anybody who mails an abortion pill to a red state will be an accessory to murder.

hey, it's OK to have satanic prayers in school now.

Until it all, ya know, goes against the grain of things.

Ras, you dont have to justify Jack Shit to me but I do commend you for sticking to your beliefs and shunning the more physical bullshit and people that can get in the way of any good religion.

Utah just put a TRO on the new law for 14 days.

https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/judge-sets-emergency-hearing-in...

SALT LAKE CITY  — A judge has granted a restraining order that will temporarily block Utah's abortion "trigger law" for 14 days.

3rd District Court Judge Andrew Stone scheduled a hearing Monday afternoon to consider a request from Planned Parenthood of Utah and the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah for an emergency injunction to block the law from being enforced.

After hearing from attorneys from Planned Parenthood of Utah and the Utah Attorney General's Office, Judge Stone granted the temporary restraining order — effective immediately and lasting 14 days.

"The immediate effects that will occur outweigh any policy issues of the state," Judge Stone says.

He says doctors face felonies, women have medical needs.

The judge acknowledges Utah is in new territory when it comes to the law (this is new to the state).

A preliminary injunction will be scheduled at a later date.

> Utah just put a TRO on the new law for 14 days.

A judge in Louisiana did the same.

Similar efforts towards same are underway in ID, KY, MS, and TX.

I read something yesterday whereby fingers are crossed to maintain the 'beacons of hope' in FL, NC, and KS as regional locations so women do not have to travel so far for services and care but the obstacles remain for paid time off, mean time existing child care, travel expenses, etc.

Pump the brakes.

Im glad to see everyone remembers what a woman is.

So let me get this straight, abortion is not in the Gospels and didn't become a Christian lightning rod until the evangelical movement began in 1979.

Similar to Dred Scott, this issue might be all our damaged country needs for a civil war to pop-off. If so, I'll pick up a gat and blast some crazy christians and rednecks.

Ahhh, thanks, RRG. I finally found it today in friends' Facebook posts. It's just exactly perfect.

The damage done by this SC decision is layers deep, the hurt to women in the short term, immeasurable,, I'm so ashamed. But, women took the big hit and I believe women will lead the fight to reclaim their bodies. Women are better, women are smarter.

Rob Brezsny on Facebook:

Didn't vote in 2000, or decided that Earth-in-the-Balance Al Gore wasn't green enough?

Two Supreme Court justices picked by Bush.

Didn't vote in the 2010 or 2014 midterms? Threw the Senate to the Republicans so they could steal Scalia's seat.

Didn't vote in 2016, or just didn't like corporate Hillary and her emails?

Three more Supreme Court seats to the Republicans.

Now the Supreme Court is putting a Christian Fascist Theocracy in place and does what the coal industry wants.

We had many, many chances to stop this.

The evidence is overwhelming: Voting is actually a matter of life and death<<<<

The voters had their chance to stop/change this, but, you know, both parties are the same and the lesser of two evils is still evil.

>>>The voters had their chance to stop/change this, but, you know, both parties are the same and the lesser of two evils is still evil. <<<

But how will the voters stop/change this particular evil?

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/anti-abortion-kentuc...

with Democrats like Joe, it's almost like we don't even need republicans anymore

You're a bright guy, Bss. I have to believe that you know how politiking works. Give Moscow Mitch a Federalist Society judge now, and get smoother confirmations in the future.

Personally, I'm not overly concerned about the ramifications of one judge in Podunk Kentucky.

^Yep, terrible.

There are 121 federal judiciary vacancies. Unfortunately, Biden felt it necessary to make a deal with McConnell on this judge in exchange for McConnell's promise not to obstruct any more of Biden's judicial nominees.

Again we find ourselves back to the need to elect more democrats, so deals like this are unnecessary.

Schumer’s deal to fast-track Trump judges makes progressive activists furious

“It is hard to think of a more pathetic surrender heading into the Kavanaugh hearings.”

Throwing a lifetime appointment of red meat to republicans while hiding it from his own political allies

is this why we need to elect more of these people? So this will work correctly ?

>>Give Moscow Mitch a Federalist Society judge now, and get smoother confirmations in the future.<<
>>necessary to make a deal with McConnell on this judge in exchange for McConnell's promise not to obstruct any more<<

do you two actually believe this? Yes or no?

for real

Schumer is not an effective leader.

> a lifetime appointment of red meat to republicans while hiding it from his own political allies...is this why we need to elect more of these people? So this will work correctly<

No, so deals like this are unnecessary.

And the alternative is an irreversible decent into Christofascism.

Is Biden an effective leader?

Will he be allowed to be more effective after tossing Moscow Mitch a judicial cookie?

will Mitch allow that?

Honestly, what I believe is that back-alley deals happen(ed) like that all the time, and somehow or another they led to compromises that kept this country going. I think that Biden believes that he can get some bipartisan movement going by doing this.

Do I believe that it will work? Possible, but not probable. I don't, however, hold it against Biden for trying this tactic. THe country s so fucking fractured right now and everyone hates everyone, which I don't see as very positive.

Alright, so Brian is a no.

Maybe qualifying that with an asterisk or something, but still a pretty solid no. Thank you Brian.

Lumber?

Biden has been invaluable on foreign policy.

Domestically he has been as effective as the Senate has allowed. Hence the deal with McConnell.

I'm skeptical that McConnell keeps his word.

Here's how he has used his unilateral power...

As of June 29, 2022, President Joe Biden (D) had signed 91 executive orders, 86 presidential memoranda, 281 proclamations, and 54 notices

https://ballotpedia.org/Joe_Biden%27s_executive_orders_and_actions

>>Is Biden an effective leader?

I think we're at a point in history where "effective leader" is redefining itself. I'm not sure what it takes to be one in this country anymore. It surely isn't trying to be a unifier, nor is it being a divider. Until we, as a People, come to consensus on what effective leadership is. we're kind of fucked.

Lumber takes a bunt.

ok.

I'm a "no," with the asterisks of, "I understand why and don't hold it against him."

Bunt?

Is there something you'd like me to elaborate on?

It was a yes or no

brian swung

you're up

I disagree that it is a yes or no question.

Trying to simplify such issues is not possible if one wants an honest account.

Yes, I believe that without Biden's leadership NATO would not be the unified ally against Russian aggression.

We'll see with China, that's a dynamic and dangerous situation.

Domestically the administration dropped the ball on things like inflation, gas pices, the infant formula shortages.

Biden is far too attached to the idea of bipartisanship.

Unfortunately, the numbers leave little alternative.

We are talking about judges, here.

As you note the immediate problems on this country's plate are domestic ones.

Russian aggression towards Ukraine, as serious as it is; is secondary to those.

>>necessary to make a deal with McConnell on this judge in exchange for McConnell's promise not to obstruct any more<<

those are your words. I'm just asking do you actually believe them? Yes or no?

"disagreeing" that this is a yes/no question is like "disagreeing" with gravity

I believe I wrote that I'm skeptical that McConnell keeps his word.

I wrote that Biden felt it necessary...

Yes, I believe that Biden felt the deal was necessary.

Again, I'm skeptical, at best, that McConnell keeps his word.

Are you asking if I'd make the same deal if I were Biden?

No, I wouldn't

Lumber is a no. Good. Finally.

So then when a president goes behind his own party's back (the people we need to elect more of)...

and voluntarily does the opposition's (people we need to elect less of) bidding for them...

and then still (let's just be honest here) gets nothing in return...

do you see how simple ass people would logically conclude that both parties are actually, functionally, the same?

They are still incorrect.

Many who advocate this idea are not simple, they are willfully ignorant regarding our system of government and how it functions.

Some are just self-righteous ideologues.

> in exchange for McConnell's promise not to obstruct any more of Biden's judicial nominees

Biden is a fool for believing McConnell. It's like Joe hasn't been paying attention to how Mitch operates for quite some time now.

So by clearly serving the greater evil in this instance of judicial appointment, are you saying that Joe's move (in the long run) is actually designed to benefit the lesser evil?

I mean I'm just a simple ass person here

^That's Biden's take. Giving up one seat in exchange for not obstructing the other 120 vacancies.

I'm not privy to the machinations of the process, but again, I'm skeptical of McConnell.

My evil scale is in the shop, Bss. I only see cutthroat cunning on one side and feckless buffoonery on the other at this point.

Now wait a minute though

there seems to be a ripple in the matrix

mike says this move is out of ignorance

lumber says it is a strategic move

there's quite a gulf there

I gotta go mow. maybe you two can talk that one out?

No, I said I believe that Biden believes this.

I said I'm skeptical of McConnell, therefore, I'm questioning Biden's trust in McConnell.

Oh, if your goal is fewer simple ass people, the Democrats again are the answer. Just look at the best and worst states regarding education.

Not only education, look at the best and worst states regarding gun violence,  childhood poverty, infant mortality,  minimum wage, etc.

Are both parties the same?

The answer is more nuanced than just a simple yes or no (either-or fallacy). They are in many ways the same (e.g. beholden to corporate interests and oligarchs), and they are in other ways different (e.g. social policies).

The only politics without nuance are in authoritarian states.

A lot of folks on the Left have hated Biden from day 1. He was never going to do anything right. Add in Covid, global supply-chain issues, oil company price gouging, Sinema/Manchin, Putin, Trump's SCOTUS, etc, it's even worse for him.

In short, it sucks to be Biden.

Posted this is the Supreme Court thread, but figured since I mentioned the educational disparities when it comes to Democratic vs Republican states, this is relevant...

Sure, Elf, the parties are the same.

I'm not changing the topic to education in Arizona in order to try and make a point.

I gave you an actual direct example from today. Your response was something like yeah well then all those people are all ignorant or self righteous or whatever.

So, okay.

Of course the parties aren't the same. They're just each moving further rightward at different rates.

Knowing it can't possibly be both, is sleepy joe making that judicial appointment out of strategy or ignorance?

No, Elf, my response was I understand Biden's rationale.

I personally would not have done it if I was Biden. Also, I stated I am skeptical of McConnell's pledge, therefore I question Biden's trust in McConnell.

Regarding simple ass people not understanding the difference between the parties, the willfully ignorant of the process, and the self-righteous ideologues, my point is unwavering...

The difference between the parties is glaring.

It is almost impossible to get the significant and the mundane through congress. The problem is the need to have a majority to either overcome the filibuster (60 votes), or 50 democrats willing to eliminate the filibuster.

If the Republicans win the house and senate it's bedtime for democracy.

> is sleepy joe making that judicial appointment out of strategy or ignorance?

Misguided hope, so ignorance.

Thanks for letting go of the wheel, capitalism and the billionaires and millionaires.

 >>>>>is sleepy joe making that judicial appointment out of strategy or ignorance?

Well, both.

It's an ill-considered strategic move.

>I'm not changing the topic to education in Arizona in order to try and make a point.

I gave you an actual direct example from today<

I wasn't changing the subject, and Arizona's example is relevant to the discussion, as are the other issues I raised, which distinguish parties. You cherry pick one issue saying it's why people believe the parties are the same. Yet you refuse to address the myriad of differences, saying you won't change the subject to prove a point.

However, it's not changing the subject, it is the subject. We find ourselves here because the Republicans have control over the Supreme Court and much of the judiciary. One of the reasons we are here is people's erroneous assertion that there is little to between the parties. I have provided examples of the differences in this thread and the Supreme Court thread. Frankly, you're above cherry picking,  your analysis is usually much more astute and thorough.

Lumber you're talking in circles now

happy Saturday zone

^no, i just refused to address your cherry picked example in a vacuum, like you proposed.

Yes, I've stated my position ad nauseum, for as I wrote, it is unwavering.

I belabor my point because we are descending into a Christofascist Theocracy and the way to stop it are sweeping Democratic victories in the midterms and the next presidential election.
