Roger Daltrey plays Tommy

Forums:

Seeing him tonight at CMAC.   Should be fun, he is playing with a full orchestra.

How was it?

I thought maybe someone just saw the moviesmiley

Wonder how many steps they've lower the key on some of those tunes over the years.

We had a good time.  Roger still has his voice, maybe just a bit more gravelly than back in the day but it sounded great.  He is doing these Tommy shows with local orchestras and just traveling with a small band that included Pete Townsend’s brother Simon on guitar.  It started off with Tommy in its entirety and then wrapped up with a couple of Who favorites, Who are you and Baba O'Riley.

The best part of the show came after that.  Roger spoke for a few minutes, he thanked the orchestra, complained about the extreme heat, and then spoke about what a lunatic Keith Moon was.  One of my friends recorded that, I need to listen again.  He said something like ok now that I played a song you wanted to hear ... they’re all wasted... I’m going to play a real song, a good song.  I don’t give a shit if you don’t like it.  He then played a song I had not heard, probably from his new album, but it was awesome!  I thought that tune really stretched his voice more that anything he sang up to that point.  It was a beautiful tune, I need to figure out what it was and maybe I’ll get that new album.

That new tune he played at the end was called "Always Heading Home”, from his new solo album “As Long As I Have You".

Yeah, I think this was very good idea.

The man is legendary.

Great report & thanks.

Simon has a great ear & lent his vocal talents for the movie as young lad.

Great summer when that movie came out....

Thanks for review...have to check out new album now
