Sammy Hagar and Bob Weir announce return of one-of-a-kind benefit concert

Story by Aidin Vaziri • 2h ago

Sammy Hagar and Bob Weir are bringing the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit concert back to the Fillmore in San Francisco for the first time in three years.

The Bay Area music icons are set to host and headline the all-star concert on May 13, with a lineup of guests that include singer-songwriter Chris Isaak, blues guitarist Taj Mahal, multi-instrumentalist Don Was, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, and former Eddie Money guitarist Vic Johnson.

“I’m thrilled that we’re back for an eighth year and back home at the Fillmore in San Francisco where it all began,” Hagar said in a statement. “Most of all, I’m so grateful to my friends and partners who lend their unconditional support year after year.”

Tickets for the concert, which benefit the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, via Live Nation.

Despite the clunky name, the Acoustic-4-A-Cure concerts have become the place to catch one-of-a-kind performances from rock ’n’ roll heavyweights. And this year’s musicians promise to pack in the surprises.

In 2017, Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins used the event to premiere a stripped-down version of the Foo Fighters' song “The Sky Is a Neighborhood.” The previous year, comedian Adam Sandler dropped in for a surprise performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, guitarist Joe Satriani and Train’s Pat Monahan, while Metallica frontman James Hetfield sang a tender cover of Adele’s “Crazy for You” with his daughter.

“We’re able to produce an arena-level show at an intimate venue and keep the ticket prices affordable because these incredible artists donate their time and deliver unbelievable performances so all of the profits can go directly to an incredible cause,” Hagar said. “That’s my kind of philanthropy!”
