What an awesome area. Took off some time this week to go up to Orcas Island for three nights. Staying at Doe Bay "resort" - a collection of cabins, yurts, and campsites run by hippies and featuring hot tubs overlooking the bay. Here is the view from outside our cabin:
That's Cypress Island in the background. Its not served by the ferries, but still has rustic campgrounds and miles of hiking trails. Would love to camp there one of these days, but the currents in the area can make sea kayaking to and from the island treacherous. There are lots of other islands in the San Juans with public lands and camping that can only be reached by seaplane of private boat. Any of you all made it to those islands?
