I have an upcoming flight with a 5 hour layover in Seattle. Is this enough time to catch a ride to the space needle and back to the airport?

Yes, if you don't poke around.
Driving takes a round 25 min, or more if traffic is bad. Transit (a combo of train + bus per Google Maps would take an hourish. Remember that you'll need to give yourself time to go through security again at SeaTac, not to mention tracking drive times.

Light rail to Westlake Station, then Monorail to Seattle Center. Transit will take about an hour each way.

I know, it is probably just enough time that if something went wrong we would miss the connection. 5 hours is just a bit too long for me to be at the airport doing nothing. lol
Thanks for the info.

Perhaps just be ready to pivot to a different transportation mode if necessary? Herbal's train recommendation is the most dependable for sure.

Uber will run you around $50 each way and get you there in a half hour.
Light rail roundrip is $5-6 plus $7 for the Monorail.

Thanks! I have 4-5 weeks to think about it. The train is probably what I would do to avoid any possible traffic issues.

I'd add sculpture park which is a short walk downhill or skip the space needle and just hit sculpture park. One of my favorite places.
