SF Blues Guitar Tonight at Biscuits and Blues

Forums:

No connection whatsoever with Deadheadland - but fantasically rendered spacy blues tonight at Biscuits and Blues on Mason Street in SF.

I was there last night for both shows and the room was pretty much 1/3 capacity which is a shame considering these folks kicked so much ass.

Michael Landau (amazing guitarist)
Kirk Fletcher (Blues Master)
Andy Hess (Jammy bassist who's toured with Kimock)
Gary Novak (Kick ass aggressive and tasty drummer)

Kirk Fletcher has a reputation as a bonafide can’t-miss performer. His soulful playing and singing never fails to elicit chills, and his unique approach to blues and roots music is both refreshingly modern and completely authentic. Widely considered one of the best blues guitarists in the world, he has commanded the respect and acclaim of critics, peers and fans across the globe. He is a four-time Blues Music Award and a 2015 British Blues Award nominee and has played with a variety of popular artists, including Joe Bonamassa and a three-year role as lead guitarist of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. He is also the frontman of his own Kirk Fletcher Band, having released three studio albums and a live album. A fourth studio album is currently in the works.

Instrumental solo artist Michael Landau was born and raised in Los Angeles. He recently received a Grammy nomination as member of the Steve Gadd Band, and as a prolific studio guitarist he has appeared on more than 700 albums since the 1980’s. Some session highlights include: Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart. He has recently shared the stage in band projects with Robben Ford, Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, Steve Gadd and his lifelong friend Kirk Fletcher, along with touring in past years with James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. With many releases under his own name, the latest being the critically acclaimed ‘Organic Instrumentals’ on Tone Center Records, his music flows intensely, ranging from spooky ballads with beautiful improvisation to rowdy voodoo Rock 'n' Roll with vocals. The Kirk Fletcher - Michael Landau band features an all-star rhythm section that includes Andy Hess on bass (The Black Crows, John Scofield) and Gary Novak on drums (Chick Corea).

Wish they were doing this a week ago when I was in town. Have fun.

Michael Landau is one of the great American guitarists of all time IMO. His talent is staggering

I have gone to see him the last 3 years in a row around these parts.

The first year was a staggering throwdown at Peri's in Fairfax with maybe 30 people in attendance.
The band was Allen Hertz (from KVHW) on drums and Troy Carlton (Larry's son) on bass.
It was astounding.

Last year was a similar band at the Sweetwater with a different bassist.

This year at Biscuits and Blues was probably even better for it being a sit down show with a very respectful crowd and great sight lines - and a killer band.

If you go to youtube and search you can find some of Peri's and Sweetwater Landau Vids and they all have thousands of hits as Landau has legions of fans.

(me included!)

I last saw Michael Landau play with Jimmy Herring Ringers band in Denver. Wayne Krantz was also in the band. This was almost two years ago at the Ogden Theater. Landau uncorked a few of the greatest guitar solo's I've ever heard in my life that night. That is a great band!

Based on the above comments, I'd say that he's a musician's musician.  laugh

I'm stuck in Mr. Mom Mode; Otherwise, I'd be going to one show or another.

Thanks for sharing.
