SF's Summer of Love 50th Anniversary Guide

The city is foolish in not working toward a solution to enable Boots Houston's ill-fated and now disapproved plans to convene a Summer of Love Concert Celebration in GG Park.

Regardless of whether or not Boots was sincere, or lied, or provided inadequate security and preparatory plans for the event, the city will lose out on potentially millions of dollars in ancillary revenue from concert goers and travelers coming in from the burbs to celebrate.

SF is synonymous with the Summer of Love and it seems shameful that the city council and Board of Supe's is unwilling to broker a reasonable way forward.

I attended the Public Hearing where dozens of citizens spoke in support of this event and of Boots.

Some of this testimony was negative - some was utter fuckin' baloney and some was truly heartfelt and moving.

Literally at the conclusion of the meeting the Board allegedly denied the permit unanimously.

My how SF has changed....  Shamefully.

$ talks......

They should just save it up for the upcoming Altamont anniversary celebration concert.  That one should be downright Gnarly.

Was there any recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Human Be-In?

That was really the only thing worth celebrating.  The so called "Summer of Love" was a media creation fueled by the arrival of a lot of people who had no idea what was going on and who ended up ruining a great scene.

"The real summer of love was 1966"  Jerry Garcia

Agreed.
