Frank Zappa pulled his kids out of public schools at age 16, and made them pay their own way through college. He thought the modern day educational system was mostly exploiting and brain washing students instead of promoting creativity, independent thought, and productive critical thinking.
Why would you spend money to be "taught" something you could study on your own time?
My wife was one course short of getting her BA at UC Santa Cruz and the only class that worked with her schedule was the Music of the Grateful Dead. She said they spent way to much time on the technical aspects of the wall of sound, but being Santa Cruz Mickey did come in to lead a drum circle.
