The show that brought me back

Forums:

I started going to shows in 79 and by 93 I was pretty much done. I think I saw a show in 94 but can't remember anything about it. By 2008 I was fully immersed in the electronic music scene, and hadn't really listened to the dead in years. There were a few dead heads scattered in the electronica scene and thankfully one of them scored me a ticket to this show. This is the show that made me realize that there was still a lot more fun to be had with this music.

My last GD show was at Soldier Field in 1994. I saw P&F in Ventura on June 30, 2000 and then spent a good part of 2001 and 2002 chasing the Q around out west...

Deadheads for Obama. Had a good time at that show.

Jumped n the bus in '72 and never left.

'75 was the only year I didn't see a show.

Seen Grateful Dead @ Shoreline 1994 even though I wasn't a huge fan back then more grunge and hard rock. Wasn't a true deadhead until hearing Franklin's Tower in 1998. Got on the bus for good in 1998.

2002 was a great time for this deadhead. Alpine Valley Reunion, Bonnaroo Phil & Friends w/ Bobby & Gathering of the Vibes in Mariaville, NY with PLQ...great if not legendary summer!

I started listening to tapes as a teenager and kept listening to the same 40-50 until I got a job at my wife's work(2007). My supervisor listened to commercial radio so I got an MP3 player and started listening to the Brent years on some good headphones. I listened to 3 shows a day. Then they got some new guy and my listening frenzy waned.

Never left.

Always would hit a show here or there.

Never stopped listening to their music.

Probably never will!

i always hazed the can scene... more or lees.

Stopped in '92 and chose Chicago Blues in small clubs for awhile...

In the Bay Area, I only went to friends' gigs and free music fests (Berkeley/Oakland Farmers Markets, Lake Merritt "Festival at the Lake" etc)

Came back on Mother's Day 2009.

Missed a lot...but have also had a ton of Dead fun before and after those dates, respectively.

Stopped after Germany 1990. Saw Phil when he toured with Dylan in 99/00. Haven't seen Weir since 1990 Germany.

Greek 99 but After kimock left it was 10-18-00 in Chicago.

I honestly never left. The east coast never stopped

Never stopped.

However, I saw no shows in 1970, 75, 83, 85, and 92 (first show 1969).

Actually other ones deer creek 98 was pretty sweet.

Surfdead, I know 83/85 were some good years, Missed some goodies.

Did you see Pigpen, Foolio?

Sure quacker. Many times on youtube. You?

Or should I say did you see Chimenti?

He's too bluesy for me. I'm all about progressive jazz.

I think I've seen Chimenti with Les. Maybe.

I/m a Claypool fan. Saw him open for Phil on the 2001 summer tour. Won tickets on the radio. Last time I saw Phil or any Dead related show.

I didn't mind missing GD shows in 83/85. We had a couple of young kids and there was one set of shows in 83 (was out of town) and none in 85 within 500 miles. Jerry was a mess and I'm not really a big Brent era  fan, except for 89/90.

Of course, in retrospect, I do mind.

Calculated recently that I could have seen twice as many GD shows over the years if I had gone to all the ones within the areas I was in at the time.

It's all relative Surfdead. If you were there or not, the tapes reveal more than anything I remember.wink

But I saw Jerry shred some fine tunes in 83/85. Some of his finest. His life might have been a mess but his fingers thought otherwise.laugh
