Shows on Your Radar 2018

Forums:

New Radar thread for 2018.

Nice start to the year for all, I see.

My summary so far -

JRAD at the Cap Sunday 1/14/2018 was powerful show. Zero degrees, but hot as hell.

GE Smith 1/20 Patchouge Theater, I ate the ticket, had the flu and couldn't make it. Tried...bummer

Stanley Jordan - 2/2/2018 - Great night of music. The man is gifted.

The Record Company - I really enjoyed this show 2/10/2018 at the Westhampton BPAC. I'm a fan now.

Going to see:

This Saturday 2/16 as a Mardi Gras Nite: Pachouge Theater - Lost Bayou Ramblers & Hoodoo Loungers

March:

3/3 Bob & Phil Radio City

3/9 - Jorma Suffolk Theater

3/15 The Dixie Dregs - Paramount Huntington NY

3/16 - Tab Benoit Boulton Center Bayshore

3/17 - Larry Kirwan Boulton Center

3/25 - Robin Trower - Paramount Huntington NY

3/31 - Subdudes

April

4/6 Tommy Castro & the Painkillers Bayshore

4/12 Duke Robllard Bayshore

4/13 Davey Knowels and Friends - A night for Rory Gallagher

4/25 - Govt Mule - Westbury

(5/11 Marshall Crenshaw Bayshore NY need the ticket)

Summer:

6/8 - Steve Forbet & The Renditions Bayshore

7/13 - 715 Great South Bay Music Fest

8/14 - Jeff Beck, Paul Rodgers and Ann Wilson of Heart

Considering RRE @ The Cap Saturday

We have Brandi Carlisle @ the Beacon in April.  May do one of the Live From Here w/Chris Thile NYC shows.

Doing my best to ignore most show announcements.  Every show skipped is more $$ for a May NOLA trip.

You've got quite a lineup there, Bluelight.

This is one of those times when I miss Box of Eyes. Damn, that man could make a spreadsheet!

Butthole Surfers

Thank you Judit.  The Box of Eyes spread sheets were very cool

The Steve Forbet show was a rescheduled from December.  He as cancer and is going through chemo treatment.

i can't afford shows

Where the Butthole Surfers playing?

Yikes.

No Surfers dates yet. Still in the studio. Pinkus might tour with the Melvins first.

Currently have tickets for:

Santana at the Memorial Coliseum

Leftover Salmon and Keller Williams at Revolution Hall

David Byrne at the Keller

Phish at the Gorge (three nights)

I was gonna say, don't tease me slack. I'm a surfers fan from day 1. I want Surfers to tour. Never cared much for Melvins, but I respect them.

2/28 Earthless TXR be there or be square.

4/7 Peter Rowan's Twang & Groove featuring Bobby Black Osher Marin, San Rafael, CA

5/13 Slayer, Anthrax, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Testament

8/21 David Byrne  Sacramento

>>Seeing Bill Frisell & Thomas Morgan on Friday

Have fun I saw these guys this past summer and the show was something special. Got the CD there too.

Noodler, I gave my Bill Frisell tickets to Walt (Aerohead) and Kimberly. They are looking forward to it.

Decided to skip zigaboo's Mardi Gras bash at the chapel tonight which may have been a mistake, as is missing either of the more northernly ca steve Hackett gigs next week, but as brochacho pointed out, this shit gets pricey after a while.

>>>5/13 Slayer, Anthrax, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Testament

that's pretty sick, brah.

what's the venue?

isn't this slayer's farewell tour?

>>>>yikes

:(

<<Noodler, I gave my Bill Frisell tickets to Walt (Aerohead) and Kimberly. They are looking forward to it.>>

Glad to hear it Judit, hope they enjoy it!  Haven't dialed in prefunctioning, but likely Squirrels (tradition), or Bombs Away (close)

And long live the Butthole Surfers (when was the last time they toured?)

Nice slate Ken and Redneck!  I'm seeing David Byrne at the Hult Center in May (Bluegene), should be epic!

>>>This Saturday 2/16 as a Mardi Gras Nite: Pachouge Theater - Lost Bayou Ramblers & Hoodoo Loungers

Bummer this Mardi Gras show in canceled. Plus they canceled Devon Allman show a while back & I bailed on a GE Smith show with the flu.

A little bad luck for the Pachouge Theater

I still have JD Souther Saturday.

Lance, We want to here what's up with your shows, when your up to it.

The other thread had a lot 2017 stuff and didn't seem relevant.

4/22 Marty Stuart - finally something worth seeing around here

Dead and Co.

Ft Lauderdale and Orlando  2/26 2/27

listening to them all week on archives

My wife is looking forward to them, after listening about 20 shows I think I will were my PJ's and bring a pillow and god help me if they play El Paso

Looking forward to Wynton Marsallis & the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra doing a Duke Ellington program at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam next Tuesday.

2/16 & 17 DSO - first ever shows at the Warfield in SF!

Any Stu Allen Show in 18!  (they all kick ass and I never leave unsatisfied.)

2/25 - Stu Allen w Phil and Scott Law at TXR (Thunder & Lightning)

3/1 - David Rawlings w Gillian Welch at the SF Fillmore

5/24 - John Prine at the Warfield in SF

6/2 - Jethro Tull at the Greek Theater in Berkeley

7/24 & 25 Phish at the BGCA in SF.

Also will be Attending Spring and Fall Strawberry Music Fests, HSMF, Oregon Country Fair and HSB in October!

Tim, That sounds fun for you two. Nice road trips to see the band in sunny Florida.

Have fun

Have fun Rob W at Lincoln Center!!

I'm really enjoying Bill Frisell on Youtubes - I'm glad Walt and Kimberly are going and can see how it might be a perfect show for people with so much crap going on.

DISCO BISCUITS 3/8/18.  Hotel room and tickets acquired.

5/5 JGB at Warfield with Oteil and Stanley Jordan

Some of these are more firm than others, but on my radar in the next couple of months...

DSO at the Warfield 2/17

Shooter Jennings at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz 2/22

Thurston Moore & Heron Oblivion at The Chapel in SF 2/23

Robert Plant at Oakland Fox 2/28

Earthless at GAMH SF 3/1

A John Coltrane tribute with Henry Kaiser & others at a tiny place in Santa Cruz on 3/3

Or...

A  celebration of David Bowie with Adrian Belew and others at the Regency in SF, also on 3/3

(3/3 is "Tribute Night" for Lance, likely a game-time decision)

Greyboy Allstars at the GAMH on 3/15 and/or 3/16

John McEuen and Friends at the Kuumbwa Santa Cruz - 3/21

Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra at Freight & Salvage Berkeley 3/24

Aziza w/ Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke & Eric Harland at the Miner SF 3/25

The Residents at the Chapel SF 4/5

Dixie Dregs at the Rio Santa Cruz 4/17

Hey, lance, I'll b at the regency Bowie tribute and would love to see u there but I'm pretty positive belew will not b part of that show.

i don't even think Gail Dorsey will b at that one, pretty much just earl slick and the dude from fishbone.

it's a poor man's all star Bowie tribute lineup :(

4/13: Dale Watson - HB. supposed budboy/girl in attendance...

Steve Hackett - 2/23 - Fremont Theater, SLO Town

California Kind - 3/15 - Moldy 'Ole Flynn's, Felton

Dumpstaphunk - 3/23 - Moe's Alley, Santa Cruz

Phish 7/24-25 - BGCA, San Francisco

David Byrne - 8/18 - City National Civic, San Jose

2/16 & 17 DSO - first ever shows at the Warfield in SF!  ........

Treble, there have been a few classic DSO shows at the good old Warfield over the years.  My favorite was a Rex benefit in '02 where Bob came out and finished off set two with the band.  4-5 shared tunes including amazing versions of Let it Grow and Music.  Three set rocker that night.

It has been years though since they have played that hall.

>>> I'm pretty positive belew will not b part of that show<<<

Hey man, that's poop in the grass. That show was originally advertised with Adrian Belew; now I see as you say it's not.

That omission will likely help make my decision on that one.

Here is an interesting look at the Bowie show:

https://www.vogue.com/article/mike-garson-david-bowie-tour

I am looking forward to it even without Belew. The LA show has some unusual guests, including Evan Rachel Wood.

Struggling to find a bill on this thread that I would pay money to see.

Are all these shows free?

>Are all these shows free?

u just need lsd man

The Bill Frisell show is free...   any musicians out there you would support Ateix?

the sacrament makes all shows good

ya, the ones that don't suck balls

You have an aversion to ball sucking, or is this a puritan vs gay / slut thing?

Ateix not at mule?

More of a not quite at the place of suicidal desperation thing

lol turtle

individuals are not wanted here ateix

Maybe we can start another every concert you've ever seen thread  Lol

>>>That omission will likely help make my decision on that one.

It's a fine print, asterisk, results may very, void where guaranteed, not as advertised on TV type tour :*\

I knew what I was getting into when I bought the tickets but it sure made it less exciting and I wouldn't want to see someone get bamboozled

i figured I'd still check it out since I've never seen a band of this caliber and scale perform Bowie in person before and i'm also hopeful Angelo Moore will reprise his, both somewhat controversial and acclaimed, alter ego of "Nigga Stardust"

i also got it a few months ago before all kinds of more interesting stuff started popping up.

its gonna b difficult for me to squeeze in earthless/kikagaku moyo/Jujujujujjuujjuujjuujjuu a few days prior at the GAMH but I have to try

>Maybe we can start another every concert you've ever seen thread  Lol

bragging is the new kind heady way

The concert list was my bad...   was having a conversation with a fellow musician i'd known for decades, challenged each other to go thru our concert tickets, see what we'd forgotten...   it was a LOT.   But if that resulted in a bunch of upmanship, well again, my bad.

As for suicidal tendencies;

Nah Jay, didn't get it but I'll get back to my phonebook tonite and hit you back

Just picked up a ticket to see Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer tonight at the Westhampton Beach Perforing Arts Center.

Mardi Gras night was canceled & the weather is too nice to not go to a show...

Should be sweet.

Ry w/juaquin cooder tickets just went on sale for the GAMH in mid July

The Cooder Family Band?

Cooder & son duo from the sounds of it, which I hope means ry will plug in at some point!

either way I'll b there

That sounds great^

I just grabbed a ticket to see Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center 6/24/18 - 8pm

This was just booked. I am just noticing now Nick Lowe is the band leader. I am psyched.

In addition to the shows mentioned above, just scored tickets for the sold out Margo Price show at Revolution Hall this Monday.  It will be my first time seeing her.

Cool Ken. let us know how that show goes.

I thought I had written that I am going to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Patchouge Theater tomorrow night.

Radio City marquee hawking John Prine & Sturgill.

I might have to bag a Friday shift for that.  Checks two boxes.

>> musicians out there you would support Ateix?

Ownership of very hip little basement tavern out in freaky western MA just changed hands. Gonna be a lot more freaky shows out there.

Kim Wilde

I'll be on the lookout for Butthole Surfer dates for sure!

Just dropped some serious fuckin custie coin on three of four sets Ron Carter will be playing here over two days a couple mos. from now

Moreno is also supposed to be part of the Bowie tribute on 3/3 in SF that I'll b at while everyone else seems to be going to Nelson and Friends at GAMH; hopefully I'll b at that venue a couple days prior for the first time to see the Earthless/Kikagaku Moyo/Jjuujjujjuujjuujjuu show.

This Monday I'll b at the Sierra Nevada Brewery seeing Tim O'brien with Lunasa getting my weepy drunk on.

So suck on all that, shows on your radar 2018 thread

yee haw brotherman. i'm hoping to catch a few more free / house shows if I can but this year has been back to the small-circuit / local jazz shows.

I mean how often am I gonna be able to go see Mr. Ron Carter with his own band? In a really comfortable, chill bar venue – right in town?

That does sound pretty damn nifty.

And thanks for reminding me about Moreno, just found out Fishbone's Angelo Moore isn't gonna b a part of the US Bowie tour as originally advertised which was a bigger bait and switch than the Adrian Belew asterisk Euro leg only deal.

How the fuck they gonna roll this joint without Nigga Stardust?

He was the only male vocalist that I felt really worked well in the context this shindig.

They better have Moreno and the other chicks working overtime

Update on BS tour: probably not a tour, Paul don't want to tour, probably a few shows in TX, NY and CA.

Got a ticket for The Melvins Pinkus Abortion Technician tour stop in SF.

Great to see you ^

Rolling MFStones Marseille, France

Lance

Did you hit that Coltrane tribute show @ Michael's? was curious about Jim Thomas' surf guitar rendition of  "a love supreme"

The SWMH gig  last month with Kimock was sublime...

No I didn't get over the hill for that one.

I was actually planning on going to the Nelson show last night but ended up helping out a friend and didn't get to that one either.

Hot Tuna electric at Fur Peace Ranch in the

Fur Peace Station!

Tomorrow 3/24/18.

March 24th is important in my concert history. In 1990 it was the date of the first GD show Linda and I experienced together as a couple. We remain together now and forever. Not Fade Away!

(Also caught 87, 91, 92, and 93 shows on 3/24.)

Wow tomorrow? Have fun Leper.

I couldn't find this thread for over a month.

Grabbed a Great South Bay Music Festival Ticket with the Little Feat & Hot Tuna playing the final day 7/15

The headliner will be announced 4/1 (I'm guessing Mule again and hoping for a Paul Simon farewell to Long Island set)

I grabbed a low budget concert show ticket - Jimmy Vivino - Songs out of the woodwork tour - Boulton Center 6/30/18.  Should be real cool.

May miss out on Todd's Utopia. Not sure yet.

4/18 - As The Crow Flies - The Ardmore  Music Hall

Adrian Belew Power Trio Salutes Les Paul - The Iridium NYC 6/9

Ordered tix yesterday. I’ve been wanting to see this band since he put it together.

https://shop.bluegrass.com/wildflower/mr-sun-4-6-18-wildflower-pavilion

Just bought tix for Darol Anger and Mr. Sun in two weeks up at the Wildflower Pavilion in Lyons

My 2018 show schedule has been light. Trying to keep it to one a month this year. Except when you can see Phish and Slayer in the same week.

April - SCI

May - Fu Manchu

June - Deadco

Aug - Phish, Slayer / Anthrax / Testament

Great photographs Leper.  I was hoping to get a view of Jorma's guitars this tour from that angle to see the gauge guitar strings being used, especially on the Les Paul.

I just got a ticket for Utopia at the Paramount 5/1 with the refund from the Robin Trower show that was canceled this past Sunday, at the same venue. Stoked!

The plan was to have Robin Trower close out this epic month of music. Now its up to the Subdudes this Saturday night, to drive it home.

Picked up a ticket to Jackie Green & Anders (again). This time at the Boulton Center 7/19.

Also grabbed a ticket to see Mathew Sweet at the Boulton Center in Bayshore NY - 6/16.  Very happy about that!

Both shows will be on sale to the general public shortly.

Woot!

I forgot I had tix for The Flecktones at the Cap in June.

Saw the printouts through the glass of the china cabinet; had no idea what they were until I unfolded them.

Damn. For various reasons I didn't make a single show on the list I posted so far.

But I am NOT missing The Residents this Thursday!

Headed back to the Ranch tomorrow.

Sat. April 14,2018 SPENCER BOHREN, JORMA & LARRY CAMPBELL

Thinking about going to see Dweezil Zappa tonight at the Wellmont.  Friend of mine bailed out so I'm on the fence.

Dale Watson tonight w/ the Bud's

and fyi...GO SEE DEL McCoury

79. sharp as a whip and cute as a bug. band blew smoke. last night was good.

Going to see Mickey Hart tomorrow at the American Museum of Natural History.  Mick on the beam in the planetarium from the Big Bang  to present.

Should be pretty fucking cool!

Lance, how were the residents at the chapel?

i thought they were fucking awesome at that winery in Sonoma last Saturday.

i don't think there was much more than 100 people there; just when I thought I'd never b closer to experience that madness than when I was front row at the regency a couple years ago 1st time I saw them.

He was right up in my face, so gnarly.

p-funk the weekend prior in SLO was freakin badass as well.

nothin on my radar until LCD soundsystem at the Greek the end of April a few days before my birthday.

I thought the Residents were great at the Chapel. That place is great, especially on a rainy night in the Mission.

The only dowsides were that it was SRO (I prefer my Residents sitting) and it was PACKED! But I knew that both of those things were going to be, so I was ready.

Still, that venue is so cool, and the Rezzies were just great. As always the main dude was so brilliant. Every move, every step, every twitch of his head, every motion of his hands is calculated and part of the performance, and what he does with his voice and the way he "sings"... he's a true star. And as usual I also really liked the guitar player.

Highlights were It's A Man's World, the two from Cube-E, including Teddy Bear, and Six More Miles To The Graveyard encore.

They still get deep into the dark stuff.

>>Going to see Mickey Hart tomorrow at the American Museum of Natural History.  Mick on the beam in the planetarium from the Big Bang  to present

I have been very happy with the shows I have gone to lately. But was really happy with Tommy Castro & the Pain Killers 2 weeks ago.

I think that was the best concert ever- with my favorite artist/band leader/singer.

I seem to be the only ones that feel this way? Very very disappointed about that.

My son liked the show, but was looking at me, like settle down Dad, we don't want to get thrown out.

Bought a ticket to see John Hiatt in the end of August out in Westhampton

Utopia was fantastic.

Graham Parker was (is) excellent

Tomorrow 5/10 is Robben Ford

Friday 5/11 is Marshall Crenshaw.

I waited to the last second and jut grabbed a ticket to see Arlo Guthrie Saturday Night at the Patchouge Theater

I'm up for this.

Oh & I bought a ticket to see Larry Carlton 8/15.

Which is not that far away & on the radar now.

I'm checking off a bucket-lister next week, seeing Itzhak Perlman with the San Francisco Symphony.

I'm expecting a meat-in-the-seat crowd.

David Byrne from the front row of the Ryman was pretty ok.

Chris Stapleton/Marty Sturat - Mansfield MA

White Denium - Providence RI

Just purchased a ticket to see Shelby Lynne July, 20 Bayshore, with money I i was saving to buy a David Crosby ticket with.

Saw Shelby & Allison Moooer last season. It was an amazing show that  has had a lasting effect on me like no other.

I knew Shelby would come right back. She's feisty.

Just got really stoned & tuned -up for a Jackie Green & Anders show tonight; told the whole world to F-off  & - The show is tomorrow night ~

Saw Electric Hot Tuna Sunday & the show was ruined by-talkers.  Sushi sized Tuna set & done.

Yeah yeah yeah. Despite being underwhelmed when I saw him a couple years ago I'm giving him another chance. I didn't see him at the Great American this past week, but I have a ticket to see him in Santa Cruz in late August so we'll see about that.

Otherwise it's looking fairly slow for me through August...

Phish in SF this Tuesday & Wednesday for sure

Phish next weekend in LA is still a maybe

If I don't go to Phish LA then the Byrds deal with Marty Stewart's band at the Mountain Winery on that Sunday is likely

I'm in for sure for the brilliant Taylor Eigsti Trio w/ E. Harland at Stanford on the 31st

Either Stu Allen playing JGB songs on 8/1 at TxR or Tommy Igoe at Yoshi's the same night is likely

Shooter Jennings in Santa Cruz on the 4th is possible

David Nelson Band at TxR on the 11th is likely

Maybe one of the David Byrne shows later in August

And that Ry Cooder show on the 21st is for sure, and that's all I have until September, when my calender gets a bit more active.

>>I'm in for sure for the brilliant Taylor Eigsti Trio w/ E. Harland at Stanford on the 31st

He’s new for me, but damn, his recordings are fantastic. Thanks and I hope to see you there Lance.

Yeah, I'm not usually too big on piano trios; the piano player has to be just fucking amazing or it gets samey for me, but Eigsti is fucking amazing and Eric Harland is IMO not just one of the greatest jazz drummers of OUR time, but one of the greatest of ALL time, and again IMO Harland is at his best in piano trios because he can play so delicately yet still be dynamic and brilliantly articulate. I love Eigsti, but I try to never miss anything with Harland involved.

I can't remember where my seat is, but Dinkelspiel is a small auditorium and my seat will certainly be on an isle. I'll be the big lug likely wearing an old Garcia/Wolf hat. Say hey if you spot me.

Awesome Zooey ! yesyes

>>>>Yeah yeah yeah. Despite being underwhelmed when I saw him a couple years ago I'm giving him another chance.

i remember, he even made a live release out of those shows.

u were insane then and you're insane now.

also, have seen this video?

On my radar..

Saw Larry Carlton and his band last night on my night off; as the prior night's 2-sets were processing.

Such a kicked back and wonderful guy, so glad I went.

He encouraged me to video record it as he saw I was wearing an audio recorder around my neck (which I do now).

'It was a clean uninterrupted taping, so it should be a new Larry Carlton live show, date/venue etc..

Going to view it now as it edited together overnight"

seeing them in Athens next month. we are very excited

No shows. I'm just hoping some cam girl's jamming the groovy tunes.

Maybe Richard Thompson Trio/NYC/November.  If I pay off our NOLA trip before tix are gone.

And I'll do one of the Live From Here Dec NYC shows if there's a guest mix I like.

Quite a few have come onto my September calendar...

Maybe the Mavericks this Thursday.

Maybe Leon Bridges at the Greek or Melvin & JGB in Santa Cruz on Friday.

For sure I'm seeing Omar Sosa in Half Moon Bay this Sunday.

I'm going to a benefit next Friday at the Masonic in SF with Patti Smith, Bob Weir, Eric Burdon & others I've never heard of. It's an event to support the Paris Agreement so it's certain to be a classic Bay Area hug-fest, but there are some cheap balcony seats, Patti Smith is going to be there and it should be fun overall.

The next night I'm in for Joshua Redman with Ron Miles, Scott Colley & Brian Blade, at the Miner in SF. That should be brilliant.

I'm seeing the same group at the Kuumbwa in Santa Cruz a couple of days later on the 17th. It will be great to hear the differences in the music from the very large Miner to the tiny Kuumbwa.

Maybe Greta Van Fleet in San Jose on the 18th. I've not seen them and I'm curious.

For sure Charles Lloyd and the Marvels with Lucinda Williams on the 21st at the Bing on the Stanford campus. That should be something.

Maybe Arcade Fire at the Greek on the 22nd. Likely a game-time decision there.

Eric Krasno & Friends w/ Bobby Vega, Jennifer Hartswick, Wil Blades, Grahame Lesh & Scott Amendola is at Slim's on the 24th. That's a benefit for local fire relief and it should be real good, but Monday night concerts kill me so we'll see about that one.

Circles Around The Sun is (hopefully) playing at Old Princeton Landing of all places, the OPL of Neil Young & Crazy Horse fame, on the 28th. I'll probably go to that just to see music again in that dive little bar and re-live some amazing memories.

That group just canceled some east coast shows recently, and just the other night Neal Casal couldn't play as part of the Green Leaf Rustlers in SF (Greg L. from Mother Hips filled in for him) so I'm guess he's having some health issues, but their TxR show on the 27th and their OPL show the next night haven't been canceled yet, so hopefully Casal will be feeling better in a few weeks.

Melvin & JGB are playing at TxR on the 28th & 29th. The 28th with Rock Collection (so there will likely be a Stu sit-in with Melvin) and on the 29th John Kadlecik is sitting in with Melvin. I plan on being there on the 29th.

So that's six or seven for sure for me this month, with probably a couple more. Plus I'll be at a couple of other events this month that are not necessarily my choice, along with a 49ers/Lions game on the 16th, so for me that's a lot these days.

In my advancing years I just can't hang like I used to, but we must all continue to...

GTTS!!!!

Oh shoe sages, twiddle me this, when a Sunday show one shall miss?

Never! they say goforth, exhalt the son of the midnight north.

Yea? I might say if Phil were not undermanned, with a pedestrian Terrapin Family Band

BTW, I figure most/all don't read all my jabber, but writing it all out like that helps me get my mind straight on what's coming up.

This thread got me to look at my September calendar and I was surprised at how much I had on it, including the shows I had tickets for already but forgot were coming up.

Most people hate all the tickets fees or how fast shows sell out these days, but what I hate most about modern ticket buying is how often I have to buy a ticket months in advance of the show.

'Cause I tend to forget things.

So thanks for the thread, and carry on.

I love it Lance, all of it.

>>>the Masonic in SF with Patti Smith, Bob Weir, Eric Burdon & others

I love Eric Burden!!

He's a good egg, that one!!

Magpie Salute tomorrow.
