Sketchy Vans and Porch Pirates

Forums:

Yesterday, our neighbor called and said she saw a sketchy looking gold late 70s/early 80s van stop in front of our house and a guy get out, run up to our porch, and grab a piece of mail clipped to the mail slot we had left for the postman.  It was a boring piece of mail so sure guy was disappointed, but still put us on alert.

We were expecting an Amazon package later that day and right after they dropped it off, another sketchy van pulled over in front of our house with another sketchy guy getting out. It wasn't the same gold van, but was just as sketchy with bike parts strapped to the roof.   We grabbed the package and dude got back in and started to drive off.  I went out and sort of stood in the road staring them down until the van left the neighborhood.

I was told that people will follow the Amazon truck around and snatch packages as soon as they are dropped off.   Do you all have that problem too?

Well, where i live you are taking your life into your own hands with that kind of activity...i live in Pennsyltucky and the neighbors are armed, well armed...we are not, but fuck around and find out.

My neighbors are well armed too. We live on a dead end street, at the end of a series of dead end streets, there are cameras on most houses, and several state and local police live around the neighborhood. Not so much an issue around me.

in Oklahoma?   My neighbors wouldn't hesitate to shoot the van up as it drove off.  I have packages delivered weekly for the grow.  Never once had a problem.

We have had a few problems but most of the people around me are either retired or semi retired and I'm home all day too. Cameras are useless because they just wear a hoodie and you can't see their face. Some neighborhoods in CA have set up license plate scanners that scan every plate going in and out of a neighborhood, but that just catches the people cheating on their spouses. Porch bandits just steal plates.

My favorite is the glitter fart people https://fb.watch/u8zze8tzCY/i who create fake packages that come with a surprise.

Where I live , we chain the perpetrator to the bumper of their van and put a brick on the gas pedal.  Wouldn't want them leaving the scene of an accident....

All over the city all day

We don't have home mail delivery where I live, so pretty much all of my deliveries go to my PO box.

nope

man ken, what a crappy thing to have to deal with

I have had a private mailbox for many years now. It's like $125 a year and they accept all the packages too.

The level of active identity and privacy protection you get from it far outweighs the inconvenience of going somewhere to pick it up.

"Sketchy Van and the Porch Pirates"

...Belongs in the band name thread

Never mind (Alan beat me to it).^

Ken - you've lived in Oregon a lot longer than me.  Folks in Salem are totally freaked out by them pirates.

I've been somewhat immune to it so far because of the type of street I live on- but always on guard.

Mailbox thieves thrive down here.
