So my Pop called me this afternoon...

Forums:

tells me he bought a new car. Asks me if i want to buy his old one... 2014 Subaru outback,  40,000.

Made me an offer that I couldn't refuse.

Looks like I'm getting a new car.

Subaru owners,  tell me what you love about your Subaru.

I love that if I slip on ice it fixes itself before I can even react.

I have 113k on a 2012.

Has been good to me. It's comfortable and a pleasant drive.

My 2004 Legacy (40,000 miles) feels really solid on the road, corners fairly well, holds in snow (I don't drive much on ice), is reliable, goes anywhere on gravel roads though the Legacy doesn't have the clearance your Outback will have.

I hope you have many years/miles of safe and fun driving.

130K on our 2014

runs like a top

214k on my 2000 Outback.  Broke down yesterday on the way back from the coast.  At least I made it to the outskirts of town before it stopped running (the weather in the Coast Range yesterday was nasty and it would have sucked to have broken down out there).   Waiting for the mechanic to get in on Monday morning to hear the news.

What also sucks is that I had 97 Outback with 245k on it just sitting around as a spare vehicle.  It still ran, but rarely used it, so I sold it three weeks ago.  Doh!

Sorry to hear, Ken.  My highlander has 208k, was thinking about replacing it in the next year or two,  but this fell into my lap.

Subaru owners, is the anything you dislike about your subaru?

Used to be a "loyalist", now I try to show the light (or lack thereof) every chance I get:

Thanks,  Face, I'll keep an eye and ear out.

If the price was right for you, it might not matter ...

My son is having huge issue w his 2014 Outback. He bought it brand new, and has kept up w oil changes, and all "checkups" w warranty guidelines and or regular car maintenance etc.

He brought it to local guys that we ve all gone to for years, and they recommended he call Suburu, because he "may" need a new engine??? Now, my son has been a lil vague in explaining to me exactly what that mechanic said ( and im trying to find out via mechanic etc) , but, so far, after only a couple times on phone, my son says he s already getting run around from Subaru...this doesnt add-up , to me anyways, as Ive always heard great things about this company etc..

Anyway, has anyone had, or heard of anyone having such huge issues w a 4-5 year old Subaru w 50,000 miles on it?

What is the particular issue your son is having?

If you click the link to the Outback forum I posted above and visit the first page / post, you'll see the issue I encountered started at about 2,500 miles (and progressively got worse).

The big aspect of the "run around" I got from Subaru is that they seem to always force you to visit their service center in order to have any dialogue of substance.  However, their service center never officially acknowledged the issue as being an issue; even though the symptom (ping) is easily detectable and the company has released several computer patches to try and "correct" what they claim to be a non-issue ... even in light of the issue (misfire) is known to be degenerative to the engine in general terms.

Prior to my purchase, I was following that same forum re: "shakers":  if I recall correctly, 2010 & 2011 Outbacks that had an issue with respect to significant vibrations in steering wheel as a result of some sort of systemic imbalance.  Here's one thread:

https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/108-steering-wheel-shake-issues/274...

The point being:  I suspect SOA (and likely most manufactures) classify many major issues as not rising to the level of a recall, but are still significant and require a great deal of time and persistence by the customer to remedy the situation.  It's the apparent "working this gray area" (as a former Subaru loyalist) that has really ruffled my feathers!

^ From what he told me...our local mechanic told him to deal w Subaru directly ( or start there, check warrenty etc) because he needed a whole new engine...just doesnt make sense.....so far...i have to get more info from my son, and ill post back as to why he brought it to them to begin with...

Good luck with that Jambone.   Car might be too old to fall under your state's Lemon Law, but might be something to check into if you still get push back.

In other Subaru news, the mechanic says I have a blown engine on my 2000 Outback and it will cost more than the car is worth to fix.  So I went out today and got myself a 2015 Forester with only 41k on it.
