So when will Dead & Co. at the Sphere be announced?

I've heard the shows will be in May so I would think soon

Hmm. As much as I love them I'm not sure this band is the best fit for that venue. The band does best outdoors, IMHO.

Will Billy be there?

But... Dead $ Co. just had their last tour over the summer. A lot of people shelled out a lot of bucks for that. They are reuniting?

Residency ≠ Tour

Vegas is already a shithole any time of year. In the Sunmer? Fuhgedaboutit.

Punt, Pass and Kick.

People will go and have a fantastic time. End of the day, that's what matters, right?

May. But still hot LOL

I get reasons to hate on Vegas but it's a sealed environment other than waiting for a ride somewhere you never have to go outside.

I used to have to go for trade shows. Those were 7 day runs where you had to entertain clients all night and then be on the floor in the hall at 8:00 AM. That made me seriously hate Vegas. Now that I don't have to work I enjoy it a lot more except for everything is priced for people on expense accounts. Got some great points on my CC back when other people were paying dropping $5k on dinner.

It really is all there you just have to poke around, and the food is world class now if you are into that. It's a fun splurge for two days tops and I only play craps so can keep the losses to a minimum.

Anyone remember Vegoose -  Good Times.  Phil and Trey at the Orleans Arena Holloween.

Vegas is a good place to live single until you're 25 or so

After that it's basically just a black hole of excess consumption and bad traffic

vegoose did have its moments for sure

I haven't been to Vegas since GD 93

Will be going to Vegas for the Richards-Jagger-Wood band, but not for this.

There will be a Jerry hologram and I sure as shit don't need to see that...

Has it been decided that it will be 1974 Jerry for the hologram ?

Here is a video that demos how the sound arrays work. In theory you could have two different bands playing and half the audience would hear one band and the other half would hear the other.

Same here (not including the airport).  And after being shut out for Phish, don't have any real reason to go back.  Sure Dead & Co. will be even a bigger shit show trying to get tix.

Bring back Vegoose!

>>>Sure Dead & Co. will be even a bigger shit show trying to get tix.

I think if they do 14+ shows it will be easier. Also the Phish after market, for Sunday at least, has dropped by at least $300 so far and is almost to where U2 prices were. If Phish were doing ten plus shows prices would be much lower.

waste of a perfectly good globe

Will Billy be there?

No, he's done.

tickets should go on sale after Dead Ahead in Mexico

Sitting inside a giant snow globe while Mayer and Weir butcher the venerable GD songbook? Eeeeeek.

In other news, I was able to easily grab a couple front row tickets to Melvin and JGB this spring in Rochester and was able to afford a bagel after

Seats closer to the stage are cheaper typically at the Sphere I wonder if that'll be the case for DeadCo. Up close and personal w less of The Sphere experience or high up in the 300s where they are typically more expensive.

Apparently Vegas just passed some strict vending laws that will great limit or eliminate any chances for a vending scene there

Once in a while you get shown the light

in the strangest of places if your credit is right

I can't fault the musicians for doing this and making more money. Everybody can use more money. For those who can afford to pay the anticipated prices to be entertained, I hope you have fun and get your money's worth.

>>>Seats closer to the stage are cheaper typically at the Sphere

Only the ones that have an overhang so you can't see up and get the whole visual experience but in any other arena those would be about the best seats in the house because you are pretty much looking right at the band.

The big unanswered question is will they have their rig on a stage where there is no need for a rig. How will the smoke between songs not that anyone smokes on stage anymore.

Funny that the guys started out at acid tests with the purest of L for $1 admission...maybe?  59 years later, over priced weed and alcohol are the sacraments inside a 2.3 billion dollar bowl of Kool Aid.  Progress.

IT Is Going Down Dead and Co at Sphere Vegas.

Not sure I'm gonna bite for Disney Dead doing the Elvis thing in Vegas. I'm sure there will be many cool visuals with lots of trademarked images; It will be fun, sure, but a little contrived I think.

But, I can't fault them, it's a paying gig. To those that are up in arms about them reneging on the "Farewell Tour" idea, remember this is the band that started up right after the "last" outing at FTW. They will keep doing this.

My guess is it's Jay Lane on drums, just a guess.

Maybe I'll watch a stream, if they do that. I bet Drums > Space will be cool.

So, basically, I'm not mad, I'm just not going this time.

"Each weekend's three performances will feature a unique setlist."

The wording is slightly ambiguous.

Is that one setlist for the three weekend shows or a different one each night?

OK, but I'm not going to travel to see any band at this point.

I agree with the setlist observation...Why point out the setlist at all unless something is going to be different than we are used to

Things need to be much more scripted than usual to vibe with the Sphere FX.

So you think it will be a static set each 3 day sequence?

Static setlist? They'll let you know after it sells out

fishcane, given what I've read about the Sphere and the time it took U2 to get it programmed for their relatively static show, I'd be surprised if each show of the entire D$C residency had its own setlist. More likely I think is that the three shows played each weekend will have different setlists, and then they'll cycle through that arrangement six times.

It all sounds very un dead...

Well, this cleared it up....lol

Thanks for reaching out!

Typically, Dead & Co shows have a unique setlist each night, and I imagine each weekend will be unique from the other weekends.

We don't work directly with the artist's team regarding the structure of the show, so my ability to give you a more sure answer is limited, but I highly doubt they will repeat any of the setlists an it's entirety over the 18-show run.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Danna @ Seated

They have to point out there will be unique setlist for each night to alert the general public to entice them to buy more than one night.  The average Deadhead knows this but can't afford to travel or buy tickets.
Either way it looks fun and I would go if it was in my budget and it was closer.

From what people have been saying about the Sphere experience, those Section P3 mid-uppers look like the best seats and at$195 per, the best deal.

They won't have the full visuals for every song just like U2. The rest of the time it is like a pretty standard stadium pro shot just like U2. The set lists will be different every night just like U2.

Not that I'm going to that one either since I got shut out.  I hope anyone who has the means and wants can make this happen for themselves.

I hear that Vegas just passed some pretty strict laws on vending,  sounds like the regular "shakedown" lot scene won't be possible here.

Vegas also recently passed a law that requires foot traffic to keep moving on pedestrian bridges at all times.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Standing or stopping is now banned on pedestrian bridges on the Las Vegas Strip where visitors often pause to take photos amid the glittery casino lights or to watch street performers. Violators of the ordinance that took effect Tuesday could face up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.

In for Memorial Day weekend, June 20-22 and July 11-13 and am very excited. I have no problem custieing up. To each there own.

Phish gets 4/19, the most celebrated L day of the year, worldwide. Dead $ co. can't even get 8/1 - 8/9. Or maybe didn't even try.  Says a lot.

Actually that says nothing.......

>>>Actually that says nothing.....

Well, Phish sold out all 4 days in minutes. Comparatively speaking, Dead$co should've sold out their 15 day run well under an hour if they're really that good. Seems like tiks are still easy to get.  You're right, though, 4/19 and the days in between probably don't mean much to the fuzzy slipper crowd.

I have no cares about people's disposable income, but this does seem like a big money grab for a group that continues to retire. Bill did. Will Phil show up for this can't-miss-mega-extravaganza?

All I was getting at was that Bobby is probably playing elsewhere with Wolf Brothers or another ensemble in August. The man seems tireless.

24 nights must amount to an incredibly high insurance premium.

Man Arrested After Climbing Las Vegas Sphere

SphereMan.jpg

All i was getting at is that it would've seemed less like a money grab if they simply would've given more thought about their first time in a place this special. Having secured the week of days in between would said a lot, imo.

Bobby can pull the plug on Wolf Bros. anytime he wants.  They would've understood. And, yeah, he's in great shape. So is Phil.

out of curiosity I tried to find out about their vip venition hotel packages, looks to be sold out! lots of wealthy dead heads out there, 3 shows floor seats plus a 5 star . "at least I'm enjoyin the ride" hey man lets drop 5000 bucks in a weekend..maybye we'll win it back

>>>maybe we'll win it back

Hard to find a table under $25 minimum on the strip these days. So no more craps for me. They have also added a triple zero on many of the roulette tables for all the people who can't do odds.

Maybe I lucked out this time but the whole ticket thing was super easy and transparent compared to other high demand shows like Bruce Springstein, but I only tried for one week night show so that may have been it. If anyone is going June 13 let me know.

I have to wonder how The Faster We Go, The Rounder We Get would work with D&C and the Sphere. Is there anything rounder than a sphere, or slower than D&C?

Bob is definitely playing with The National Symphony Orchestra with Wolf Bros & Wold Pack Aug.9 I believe is the first show and the presale is Friday.

There's no bailing from that nor do I think he wants to after seeing the show at Frost in October. I think he enjoys those gigs more than DeadCo but the $$$$ is drastically different,

IMG_1843.jpeg

^hmmmm...if i was a better writer, i would've gotten my point across the first time.  My petty gripe is this:  Phish secured the dates they secured because they know and appreciate their fan base.

And it does say a lot as evidenced by them selling out the Sphere for four consecutive dates in literally minutes.  Their fans responded in kind to the run of dates secured. Those specific dates were NOT an accident.

As we all know, 4/19 is a major, if not THE Holy Day, for the counterculture. Since that string of 4 days was taken, oh well, move on. What days could've meant something special to the true Dead fan base?

How about a 4 day run of 8/1 - 8/4. If the guys are dedicated to other dates already, then cool, no problem, but I guarantee anyone here that those 4 dates would've already been sold out. Hell, as much as i can't stand Vegas, i honestly would've tried to obtain a tik for any one of those nights.

Instead, they chose random, meaningless dates that mean jack shit to their dedicated fans.  Just a clusterfuck of meaningless dates for fans of John Mayer.  Just a little nod towards somene else, aka Jerry,  woul've gone a very long way with a whole bunch of people,  guaranteed !

That's all i have to say, some meaningless rant from some meaningless dude on a random dbmd in a tiny corner of etherville.  But after decades together, through thick and thin,  it's nice to see Phish happy and healthy and still kicking ass, and still paying attention to their fans.  Well Done.   And, yes, that says a lot!

I'm not sure dates matter as much to either fan base (or band) as you are suggesting, Joe. 4/19 & 4/20 might just have easily been a fluke, 4/20 especially is a day that has grown in meaning only  (somewhat) recently among many, and 4/19 remains pretty under the radar, to most. Similarly, the "Daze Between" is something that has only recently become "a thing" among deadheads. Pretty sure the band members themselves have little interest in celebrating the days leading up to Jerry's untimely death. I suspect both bands want little to do with the calendar-based mysticism of their f(ph)an bases.

And trust me, you don't want to be in Las Vegas in August.

The dates are irrelevant

They're arbitrary values. Ways to slice the pie, but not the only ways.

TBH the "days between" are some of the dates id least like to see big shows fall under. every single show, every single song, the whole scene, every fucking moment, lives under the specter of jerry garcia. shows that fall between those dates always fall into that pattern even deeper.

of course in some way, every show should be and always will be a tribute for garcia, but there comes a point when it gets to be to much, and a little corny. i cant help but think that most of the really in your face "jerry tribute" stuff ive seen played would have bored jerry to tears.

"days between" heavy jerry tribute stuff is fine for stuff like jerry day in SF or some kind of one off tribute show, but TBH the last thing a big full on "dead show" in 2024 needs is more tribute to jerry garcia.

>>>>4/19 remains pretty under the radar....

Not in the worldwide counterculture, for one example. For another example, Dead fans. For Mayer fans, probably not so much.  Cut molly and vape pens, most likely.

>>>>The dates are irrelevant.

>>>>They're arbitrary values.

The one's dead$co picked?   You're both correct.  Those 15 dates are completely irrelevant and completely arbitrary, imho.  Jack Shit from Dewitt cut his buddy down..    Ymmv.

>Benway, understood. It's a heavy time for some, but i look at it as a celebration of his life, and the gifts he brought to us while we were here together. Hopefully, they'll remember and celebrate pigpen, jerry, keith, brent, and vince at bare minimum. Tears and hugs are a good thing. But again, ymmv.

From FB:

This summer in Las Vegas, while Dead and Company grace Sphere for 24 nights over 8 weeks (so far), PhanArt Presents: In All Good Company, a gathering of Grateful Dead artists and vendors at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas.

How long do you think before FOM shows up to point out the lack of water fountains?

meh. im still hoping for a sewer tunnel rager

A buddy and I actually got invited to a sewer tunnel rager by some cats we met during a string cheese show at the rio a couple weeks before I moved to hawaii

This was pre vegoose. I think i might have had a cell phone then but if it took pictures i was oblivious to that

I remember the particular entrance was kind of off industrial or polaris, somewhere around where that swanky wyndham club is now. There are tons of entrances all over though.

They had a car battery setup wired to christmas lights in their abode, and I distinctly remember the rule was that there was no glass bottles allowed down there. They had a few futons but I never sat on them lol

we had already been partying pretty hard, but they had cases and cases and cases of free (canned) beer that they had been stealing out of trucks at night via all kinds of ingenious methods, so we kept it going down there for a few more hours

It was low key but still sketchy enough back then, i can't imagine the tunnel scene has improved much

Oh it's no joke ladies and gents. It's on.

The band is working on material as we speak. They just sent me this snippet (please sing along):

Walk into nearby furn store
Inch your way through lamps and sofas, to another aisle
Maybe you're a tired old person
Your spine is twisted your words half cursin
And thoughts of beer

What do you want me to do
To do for you, maybe change your shoe?
A chair for Phil will ease back pain
And his knees will love it too

Just a chair for Phil, light and sturdy
Recline it if you need it
If you don't, just fold it up
Firm yet comfy, two arm rests
Set it by the drumkit
Like your drugs, before a fest

And it's, just a chair for Phil
I don't know who put it there
Recline it if you need it
Or rock back if you dare

And it's, just a chair for Phil
With a pillow for the chair
Such a long, long time to be standing
So sit and rest, your derriere

ok ok so it's obviously a work in progress.... give it a little time

They are also practicing a rare fan favorite - Unbroken Chaise -- stay tuned

Looks like the extended Lesh family is all in. Part time Dead lyrcist Bobby Petersit (no, not John Barstool) just sent these words in...

Tried an Adirondack

Oh, oh, tried an Adirondack
Oh, no wooden splinters in my bum
Oh, oh, I had me some blisters
And it's not sublime

more to come....

this idea has got legs!

Additional titles

Ship of Stools

Cosmic Crazy Creek Chair (or Camping Chair)

Hammocks of My Life

Almost a setlist, ha!

^^^^closer to showtime, i think we should organize a ton of posts on the dead and company reddit and see if we can drum up some excitement for these phils chair sets. maybe make a band facebook page using old zonerjam photos? phils chair ft. special guest richie 'shakin' nagan?^^^

Well, at least 1/2 of the people in this country only believe what they want to be true, even if it's not.

Easily duped is an understatement.  There will be thousands going forward who will travel to see, touch and feel PHIL'S CHAIR!!!!!!

Go team Zoners. Please spread the word far and wide because nothing would be better than to have thousands of Dead Co fans searching for the sound of free Phil and Friends music before they step into Weir in the Sphere.

Though "Phil's Chair" is primarily a lively dance band, no one wants to sit on hot asphalt in a parking lot. Therefore, I will be capitalizing on custie comfort by hawking the official inflatable Phil Phan Terrapin Chairs at Shappy's place.  I'm negotiating with my suppliers in China as we speak. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Nevada Organ Bank in lieu of my pancreas.

Member discount for Zoners, of course, but be aware that prices might go up as soon as Jill finds out ---- she's definitely gonna want a piece of the action. "Merch is where the money is."

I'm Sitting on Top of Phil's Chair. That's a band with a theme song.

> "Phil's Chair" will be playing in the parking lot outside the Sphere for free every night of the DeadCo run!

I'm hearing that Hologram Jerry might sit-in for a set or two.

Mike, I agree, a Jerry hologram "sit-in" seems more appropriate at a free show in the park...ing-lot in Vegas than at the Sphere.

Even though we all know that it's not gonna be a real hologram, we are hereby relinquishing the preciseness of the English language's spectacular vernacular to commercially driven corporate-speak. Such is life.

Quick fun story - Jerry was interested in holography back in the early 70s due to sci fi books and rapping with hippie futurists. I think the word "hologram" even appears in an old Dead newsletter in the guise of a pyramid shaped data storage device. Fast forward to late 80s/early 90s and a friend from work (at the holography business) and his wife end up as Jerry's personal assistant and nanny (and art dealer) for some years. At he same time, the Grateful Dead organization was making forays into the world of George Lucas and the tech at Skywalker Ranch. There was even a colleague who shot 3D portraits of nude models and local celebrities at his nearby holography studio. So the stars were all lined up. It was very possible to have Jerry and the band sit for hologram portraits. But since Jerry's initial enthusiasm seldom matched his motivation (at this point in time), the vanity project withered. Almost happened, though. It woulda looked like that picture.

Long story short, the project morphed into making shiny 3D things and I ended up at Dave Kemper's house in LA talking high tech investments. Life is strange. I know little of high tech investments. No one got rich.

Bss - You can certainly corner the super boomer crowd with that port-a-pottie chair. I hope it's one of those green compost things. I guess one could also fill it with ice and use it as a seat cooler on a hot August afternoon. You may be on to something.

I hear Phil himself is now endorsing his own line of Buckle Up Kids "High" Chairs to jump on the PHIL's CHAIR bandwagon. For all the little phans at the show.

So when will Dead & Co. at the Sphere be announced?

Apparently once a month......

baitin' at the knick

The coolest part about Phil's Chair shows is they don't announce the lineup until right before the show...

Classified ad spied in back pages of recent Rolling Stone magazine:

>baitin' at the knick<

Benway... you just helped prove that all things in the Deadhead universe are somehow related to Hologram Jerry.

Check out the back cover of Dozin at the Knick. What do you see?  A guy selling hologram foil covered spinning discs (Dazers) and hologram stickers. We sold sheets of the prismatic foil to the guy pictured (a Bay area tour head and regular customer). After shows outside the Kaiser he would draw quite a crowd mesmerized by the spinning 3D psychedelic colors seemingly levitating in the air under a streetlight. Good times. Too bad it's not a color photo.

So how many people here would actually like to see this happen???

(The Jerry "hologram", not Phil's Chair).

I'm guessing few to none.....

From what I understand originally it was just going to be a stool not a chair

but there was some pushback on the Phil's Stool name

would have been a great t-shirt though

the bands introductory reddit post -

You've seen Furthur. You've seen DSO. You've seen The Donna Jean Gauchaux Band. You've seen Dead & Company. You are a true connoisseur of Grateful Dead cover band music. Now treat yourself  by broadening your horizon to something totally new and exiting - the exact same Grateful Dead classics, played as a Phil Lesh and Friends tribute band! You will love the thrilling improvisations and re-re-interpretations of Grateful Dead classics brought to you by Phil's Chair!

Inspired by John Kadlecik's seminal project "Furthurmore", Phil's Chair will reunite you with the incredible musical stylings of luminary musicians such as Jackie Greene, taking you right back to the early-mid 2000's, before the woke takeover of America. Phil's Chair will be preforming 1 set each night of Dead & Company's Sphere shows in the main parking lot. Each show will feature a special rendition of "Space" where a  chapter will be read from Micheal Chrition's "Sphere". These shows are free, but donations are encouraged in the form of cash, bitcoin, ethereum, motorboat, and dogecoin. In true PLF fashion, the lineup has yet to be solidified, but auditions for 7th lead guitar are being held all week in the sewage tunnel directly beneath the MGM Grand.

> these tunnels underground in vegas

> the sewage tunnel directly beneath the MGM Grand

I'm sensing an emerging theme, daylight, but will resist doing a Freudian read on it.

"...there's only one thing you can do and that's walk into
your bosse's office wherever you are, just walk in say "Boss, You can get
anything you want, at a Phil's Chair show". And walk out. You know, if
One person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and
They will let him take vacation time. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
They may think they're both delusional jamband fans or members of the band.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in
Singin a bar of Phil's Chair and walking out. They may think it's an
Organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said
Fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Phil's Chair and
Walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement!

And that's what it is, the Phils Chair Free-Show-In-The-Parking-Lot  Movement, and
All you got to do to join is sing it the next time it come's around on the
Guitar...."

I really don't care about these shows but I'd be a bit frustrated if I was into this band and tried to go to the last night of the run and they kept moving it back.

Hope people have fun.  Despite my lack of interest, i hope they play 200 shows.

Last night of the run is sometime in 2026

They still have to get through the 60th next year....

I had to Google Jean[n]ette Ferber.

Do I need to turn in my Phil Phreak card?

dum dee dum de dah ... the more Deadco shows, the more people exposed to Phil's music (accurately recreated, but not necessarily note for note)

You can get anything you want, at the Sphere’s Phil’s Chair show
You can get anything you want, at the Sphere’s’ Phil’s Chair show
Walk right in, it's free Phil and Friends
Just a half a block from where the parking lot ends
You can get anything you want, at the Sphere’s Phil’s Chair show

>had to Google Jean[n]ette Ferber. Do I need to turn in my Phil Phreak card?<

Blue - she was the Donna when John Meyer first played Grateful Dead music publicly (Phil's Barton Hall recreation show at TxR), So in some way this whole Deadco / Sphere thing is sorta her fault -- she coullda sang loud and out of tune and soured Meyer on GD music for good, but instead she performed rather well. So without her being there, there might not eventually be this very thread and I wouldn't be typing this right now so she is in some strange way still an influence in our lives... Thanks Ms Ferber

Some say understanding the process rates an extra Phreak credit plus.
Or so some see as such.

Here's your opportunity for a PhilChair band HQ during Sphere dates

https://form.jotform.com/240790876089067?fbclid=IwAR1TMu-cg1ZlClrsl4bS4K...

This was promoted by Zane Kesey on FB.. maybe it's a Prankster Shakedown base camp .

^ Pay Zane Kesey? Hardly. Maybe the other way around. To paraphrase Phil: "Lady, what this séance needs is Phil's Chair."

No the Phil's Chair zeitgeist espouses free. Whatever the opposite of Sphere mentality is, that's Phil's Chair. Free music. In a parking lot. Flatbed truck style. Everyone is welcome.

Rumor has it opening night will feature the recreation of the infamous 99 Warfield shows with a Fake Kimock and Fake Trey featuring Fake Phil's kids. (It was gong to be a recreation of a 97 Maritime Hall Broken Angels show, but that was technically not a Phil and Friends show and no one wanted to be a Fake David Gans.)

The virtual organization relies solely on volunteer workers and voluntary donations. Perhaps a random fan of a band that doesn't exist will start a go fund me page to hire a real Kimock and a real Trey. Dream big. Create reality. Channel your inner Phil.

Ferber, Ferber, Ferber.....

I think related to Cory Ferber of moelinks fame.

Next, a tribute band covering Phil's Chair. The tapers are already salivating. The merch is already not being purchased.

The money is in the merch

Profits donated to Nevada State Organ Bank (and the purchase if ice.. lots of ice for the cooler)

The DeadCo kids are gonna want one, too, even if they wandered aimlessly around the Sphere parking lot for hours in the hot sun searching for the sound....
