SoCal DNB - No, Really!

What about Hawaii?  Shouldn't that be announced first if it's happening before Ventura.

Huh...may have to show for this little gig by the beach and the notorious 746453 hour drum circle.

Cool. Great lineup.

Big Steve and the Ass Bites from Hell???

Parish stand-up with orchestration?...

big sur > ventura...next thing ya know there will be a sd shoe...crazy.

^ w/ four months travel time between--sweet!

Turtle....heading to SD Thursday-Sunday this week for a conference and then back xmas with the fam.   If you have some "must do" hikes or anything other "don't misses" let me know.

feel free to reach out zang.

hoover is the sd expert. where are ya staying?

0snapturle at the gmail.

Is there camping at Ventura Fairgrounds? What are the popular places to stay at otherwise?

yes there is camping there. i have never been to this but hear it is fun. there are other campgrounds not too far.

Wait, what???

Last SoCal DNB = Winston's Ocean Beach 9-17-2004

a socal bill sighting!

will we see you in big sur, big bill?

>Last SoCal DNB = Winston's Ocean Beach 9-17-2004<

yeah, the year before i figured out  what was up....

also...well, there should be another show or 2 down here to make the "trip" worthwhile, no?

Can't do Big Sur.

Fingers crossed for another SoCal show or 2.

Ventura is a beach town and has lots of hotels. There is camping on site, too.

The Crowne Plaza is next door to the Fairgrounds.

Thanks Zooey!

Looks like a decent line-up, and even though the poster's kind of ugly, I like it somehow.

The lack of respect always blows me away.  grateful shred?  Ghost Light? Circles without Casal? keller williams? I like Jackie Greene and Melvin, but how do they rate above the best band in the land?  Total BULLSHIT!

Ghost Light is quite good and plays original music, not doing GD covers.

SoCalBigBill -- real good to see ya checkin' in here

was thinkin' about ya when the fires were threatening the Getty... hope all's well down there

will you be hitting any of the DNB Hawaii if they ever announce dates & venues?

>>>>Ghost Light is quite good and plays original music, not doing GD covers.

Agreed.  Seeing them this Saturday night.   They do some covers, like the epic "Keep on Growing" they did at NWSS this past summer, but with all those straight up GD cover bands at this fest, it would be good to get some original or non-Dead music mixed in to keep it fresh.

markd, people just don't know maaannn....and it's ok..especially at this point.

relax and take a road trip.

hope there is something else good sunday....not sure i'd be doing the whole weekend.

Looking to see if this might fit into my schedule. Could be time for a southern trip.

 >the poster's kind of ugly, I like it somehow.<

I think it's hard to deny a backside stand up barreled skeleton on an overhead wave.

All red is bit harsh though.

I think there could possibly be some waves at the fairgrounds, in early april, during this event.

What does Turtle say?

(((((((((((((plf9905)))))))))))))

There's actually more than one band on the bill with the word 'Shred' in the name.

Maybe billy will sit in with oteil (and john k)

Actually doesn't look like he's in Oteils band

The line up has come along way in the last 3 years.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Gary.

A whole lot of hillside burned, and unfortunately a dozen expensive homes, but we're fine.

Those firefighters are amazing.  Hats off to 'em.

Hawaii is a long shot.   Game-time-decision if/when dates are announced.

'Bout time you showed up around here Bill.

The Raiders win a few and now you're posting again? If I knew that's what it took I'd of maybe rooted a little for 'em.

Maybe.

You crossed my mind a couple of weeks ago when I heard the SoCal fires were near the Getty place. Glad you're OK.

Hey T.

Nelson coming South got me on the board.

and...   It Was A Fumble.

The only tent camping option I see is $360 at Ventura Beach Resort. No mention anywhere, that I can find, of onsite camping.

Turts....email sent.

This show needs JRAD and the Q

Though temporarily closed due to flooding this might be open by then. Some miles from the Fairgrounds but looks like a good place to camp if all other options are full..

too bad about mc grath.

the next sp camp is carpenteria. then you have el cap and refugio, but those are a bit too far N. probably.

>I think there could possibly be some waves at the fairgrounds, in early april, during this event.

What does Turtle say?<<

well, it's possible, but C st. is more of a winter time wave. still should have a lil something but april is finicky...

Emma Wood and Faria campgrounds are near the fairgrounds and much closer than carpenteria.  Emma Wood is the closest state beach, closer than McGrath.

There is also Ventura RV Park really close to the fairgrounds, also closer than McGrath.

Hobson Beach Park is another campground right next to Faria.

Thank you Zooey for the promo code.

Worked for me- Its a done deal.

Turtle- Ya never know, right?

Would love to do it. Looks like the best lineup they ever had for this. Saw every Ventura show back in the day. Live on the East coast though. We'll see.

wasn't sure about emma wood, thought it had camping...but didn't look like it on line. good info from racket.

i don't really do festivals...but maybe...it'd depend on who is playing when.

kinda rather save the $ for a possible HI run...

Rincon parkway also has “camping”.  Please understand most of these “campgrounds” are car camping, with only a parking space but you’re right on top of the ocean.  For example Emma Wood does not allow tents in general camping.   Emma Wood has bike paths and trails to the fairgrounds, I believe.

always liked those spots along the highway

Yea sleeping on the breakwall is rad.

When the GD played there would sometimes cross the train bridge and camp just north of the fairground on the beach for free. Not sure if it's still possible, plus maybe you can walk along the coast now. Back then there was a little lagoon so to go north on the coast you had to cross the bridge or swim.

You are correct, the train bridge is still there spanning the Ventura river.  It’s possible that in April the Ventura river will be flowing to the ocean making the beach impassible.

Oh so it's a river!? Never knew.

Hi Bill, nice to see you!

You were on my mind, too, during the fire, sorry I didn't let you know it then. Glad all is well.

 Bill
