Social Media Doesn't Care About Black People

Forums:

Probably old news, but the car bombing in Mogadishu that killed 300 people the other day gets nary a mention.  Imagine if that had happened in Paris or London?  How many "pray for Somalia" type posts have you seen on your Facebook feeds?

And its just not Africa.  How does the fact that 18 black men and boys die each day in this country in shootings play into the debate over gun violence and gun control, which seems to be fixated on high profile mass shootings that account for about 1% of gun deaths annually?

#sorrykend.

If it isn’t about an airline kicking someone off the plane or legal weed dispensary proximity I could care less

Because "black on black crime" is code for racism?

Because the people that talk about gun crime as part of their political agenda are progressives who (correctly) don't want to consider race as part of gun violence?

Because if you consider the racial difference in generalitites, whites commit suicide with guns and blacks kills blacks with guns and neither are exicting to talk about?

Because mass killings are more "sexy" in terms of headlines to talk about than street crime?

Beyonce is easier to say than Mogadishu?

If it's far away, people care less.

If it's a little at a time, people care less.

If it's a lot at once, and it's close by, people care more.

No brainer.

>>>>>Because "black on black crime" is code for racism?

Most people know their killer

>>>>Because the people that talk about gun crime as part of their political agenda are progressives who (correctly) don't want to consider race as part of gun violence?

Because the gun problem in our country trancends race and is it's own seperate problem.

>>>>>>>>Because if you consider the racial difference in generalitites, whites commit suicide with guns and blacks kills blacks with guns and neither are exicting to talk about?

That's just trying to change the subject from the actual problem of access to guns and lack of federal regulations.

>> Most people know their killer

This is one of those trick statistics. Most gun deaths are suicides so of course they know their killer - it's them.

IMO the reason you didn't see all sorts of social media, "Pray for Somalia" posts is simply because Somalia is and has been in the middle of a civil war for decades. It's a war zone and bombings are part of war. London, Paris and other places are not in a war zone so a bombing there is more out of the ordinary. It's the same reason you don't see, "Pray for Iraq" posts every time a car bomb kills multitudes in Mosul...war zone.

nothing to do with suicide although suicide itself is a good enough reason to restrict access to firearms.

"In a study of prosecuted murder cases, about 80 percent of murder victims knew their killers and 16 percent were related to their killers, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced today. BJS, a Department of Justice agency, said more than half of the victims had a romantic or social relationship with their murderers."

Timmy you are quoting statistics from 1988.

Do you have more recent ones that contradict the ones from 1988?

That's why black people are most often killed by black people, and white people are most often killed by white people, and Asian people are most often killed by Asians.

Talking about black on black violence is just an attempt to whip up some racist undertones in people on both sides and distract from taking action against our countries terrible gun problem.

The common denominator is guns.

There more guns on the streets today than 1988. No citation (sorry).

>> The common denominator is guns.

Yup. Gun nutz are the worst.

They say guns don't kill people, that guns are inanimate objects. Yet, they worship the guns and the 2nd amendment as if they are god-like. Untouchable.

>> Talking about black on black violence is just an attempt to whip up some racist undertones

Yeah, that's what I said. It's code for racism. Glad we agree.

>> There more guns on the streets today than 1988. No citation (sorry).

And gun crime is lower than it was in 1988.

Are gun laws more or less strict than 1988 and how are you defining gun crime?

>> And gun crime is lower than it was in 1988. <<

I remember having nuclear bomb drills in elementary school.

Now they have lockdown drills preparing for mass shootings.

I wouldn't call this an improvement.

Guns are a big problem in our land.

>> They say guns don't kill people, that guns are inanimate objects. Yet, they worship the guns and the 2nd amendment as if they are god-like. Untouchable.

This is an excellent example of a strawman. If the guy you are debating with isn't making the points you like, just make them up for him and debate yourself.

>> This is an excellent example of a strawman. <<

I wasn't singling you out, Ender. I was talking about the gun nutz, the gun culture, the elevation of the 2nd Amendment as an unbendable, god-given right to bear AR-15s at Chipotle (hold the guac).

Yeah, you were generalizing and creating a cariciture of the other side instead of actually debating. It's what Rush Limbaugh does every day.

To have a meaningful dialog you have to start with respect. If you can't respect someone else's ideals and have an open mind, true debate isn't possible.

Keep honking, I'm reloading

I realize there's a full spectrum of gun owners. I respect the right to bear arms and own guns. I choose not to own any at this time.

Gun nutz are gun nutz. I do not respect gun nutz. It's a form of bully behavior that is disrespectful to others. I hate bullies.

I watched Colors yesterday.
