sonos update SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Forums:

First world problems, i know.

Hey, not sure how many out there have any sonos stuff around. I started to acquire some equipment a few years ago and really fell for it, great sound, pretty good app, could hook in pandora and relisten and get local stations on tunelin. A recent auto update basically bricked my entire system. Tons of other users complaining out there too.

How the fuck can a high end system company do this?

Truly wants to make me get off the tech train, fuck all phone apps of the very few I have, and go live off grid, chop my own wood and stop the commute to work.

Anyone else? So conflicted, I like tech when it works but get angry when it sucks.

I know, ok boomer!

I work in a fairly high tech environment (i fix nuclear medicine equipment, PET scanners mostly) and can understand many abstract ideas and obtuse thoughts.

The fact that this piece of shit was released as an auto update is unreal. No option to regress to previous version either!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the rant!

Good to know , I won't update.  I only have one speaker.  What kinda company sells you a mono speaker in this century? Oh Sonos does.
I chop my own wood but I'm not quitting my job.....

The app is very similar to the Spotify app, wonder if Spotify is buying them out?

I like the old app too but this won't take long to re-adjust to

but it will truly mess up my wife

I'm tired of apps to set up and run a receiver.  I miss the old days of plug and play.   My new receiver had to be connected to a TV to set it up and I just want to dig out my old tank and use it.  So much easier.

There are too many bells and whistles and I went with one of the most streamlined options I can find.

Trailhead - you can buy a second single speaker and program the two as a stereo pair, but mono is the way to go outdoors when chopping wood.

I sell it so I can place an order once a year with a big discount, been adding on to my house for years.

the one mistake I did make was going with ceiling speakers and a Sonos Amp in my master bedroom. I should of went with the Playbar and sub instead to get Music and Atmos Surround Sound when watching TV

was my old Denon Receiver and Tannoy Speakers better, sure, but the Tannoys don't sound bad hooked up to the Sonos Amp with the Klipsch Subwoofer, and Sonos does make Surround Sound  a whole lot easier for my wife.

Hey RocknRye - I had a similar issue.  I haven't had any issues with Sonos for years , great sound and convenience.  I hard wired my turntable to the Sonos 5 and Vinyl sounds great.  I did a software update a few weeks back and the system bricked.  I must say the customer service chat was very helpful and we got things running again but for some reason  I need to have one speaker hardwired into my router for the sytem to work.  All  other speakers are wireless.  I think the combination of older generation speakers and newer speakers somehow created conflicts in the software.

Agreed, the new app is a mess

Chinese made speakers that require software and passwords to operate

what was I thinking?

I fucking hate that company. I constantly have to reboot the system and it can't find anything then it will work perfectly by choosing it in Apple Music all while it can't find anything when I try to go through the Sonos app. I am in the process of getting rid of all Sonos and will just use the Move as a bluetooth speaker.

I've had Sonos in the house since 2012 and pretty much think it is the best thing since sliced bread. Easy to use, the sound is good, I can play everything I own through it.

I just hate the new app.

is this the neil young thing?

That was Pono, a high fidelity and high priced at the time portable music player. Not sure of the format but Neil was die on that hill opposed to MP3 compression, said ther was errors in the programming used to make MP3s. The lower bit MP3 do suck, higher bits are better, but I grew up on analog and have to agree. Problem is, the standard for fidelity has eroded to the point where I think most people are happy with whatever they were weaned on. I'm ok with higher bit rate MP3s for normal everyday listening, but when I fire up my NAD receiver and Polk speakers, the difference in fidelity is huge. A great mostly uncompressed analog recording played through a transparent system is life changing. For me at least. Hoping The Sphere sound system blows me away..........

My Bose Wave radio/cd player still going strong, fucking thing is from 1998! and needs nothing, no app, no FUCKING UPDATES!!!!!! no subscription, no internet or data mining.. Maybe have to dust off the laser aperture every couple of years to play CDs. How far we have regressed.

I believe that Bose discontinued their SA series which was similar to Sonos

here is a link explaining the new app

Thanks for the new app info, my problem is when I open it, I get a black nothing screen for about 3 minutes, then it says I have no products (speakers) for another 3 minutes, then when I get something that looks like the app, it is buggy, clunky, and everything takes a long delay to respond, volume controls are jittery and uneven. I uninstalled it and will try a fresh install soon, until then I'm taking a Sonos break.

I had to do that once, when my daughter who was living with me at the time, bought her own speaker and set it up. My system then seen two systems and would bounce between them. Once I deleted and re-installed all was good. They use to have humans that would help with technical support, not sure what it is like now. But you may want to try that.
