Soooooo....what's everyone doing for NYE?

Forums:

I have usually done the music / party thing, or just fizzled early and went to bed so i could get some morning surf. This year I gave in and committed to doing some sort of family activity with the Mrs and my 13 year old daughter. I really have no idea what activity that might be. I did however, get a pass to go to the Chris Robinson Brotherhood show at TXR on the 30th. Anyone else going? I'm curious what the rest of you have in mind for NYE? Feel free to chime in about shows, that's always interesting, but what do families do besides watch NYE festivities on the TV? I'm lookin for an idea or two.

Disneyland cuz!

Well- yes, that is a great idea.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Last time we did that (4 yrs ago) it ran me $1,800 for a two dayer.

The iphone and guitar presents i kicked down for xmas killed that budget though.

>>>>it ran me $1,800 for a two dayer.

Gnarly !

Cabinet,  DSO, Kurt Vile, David Bromberg,

Clutch, Sublime, Start Making Sense

in the area for NYE

I know, right? I could do a week surf trip in Bali for that. Or, a month in Mexico. Kids are not cheap.

My NYE plan is to hang out with some good old friends at their place on the Central Coast and watch the JRAD webcast. Because it's an east coast show, I'll probably be knocked out by midnight, or not much after...

I mean't you! I haven't been there since the 80's. I was suggesting for your young girl. Me I'm usually fizzeled out early too these years. No ragin' for me no more. I dig the quiet life.

Well most of the time.wink

phish couch tour.  there is nothing better.

A 13 year old might have fun at that Sublime show.

Goin phishin

Staying the F out of NYC.

I've worked (until 10P) the last 5 years, and had to deal w/getting out of midtown.

Then gone to a low-key (more about the food than the party) party.

That's also off this year (hosts travelling, I think).

So we don't know.

Can one couch-tour via Roku?  (Just installed it.)

JRAD at da Cap

IDK about couch touring on Roku.

We have that too.

Curious about that as well but i think it's no.

Garcia Birthday Band in Portland at the Mission....... The spear is well....  ;)

String Cheese Incident @ 1st Bank Broomfield.

>>>>A 13 year old might have fun at that Sublime show.

but it's at a casino

Cabinet would be my choice if I can shake this cold

Quiet evening at home with my better half, friends house party, or Mule.

Haven't decided yet.

Heading over to some friends house.  3 cool families, good fun, out of control kids.

Absolutely nothing, unless there's a good free stream.

Chill as I am looking at a seven hour drive on NYD.  To go to the lawyer on Monday to get get power of attorney from my parents.  So I can start managing their money.  Which they can't handle anymore.

This bitter earth...

Papadosio and Griz

i can not wait!

I'll be boogying down w Stu Allen and Mars Hotel at the VFdubya in Larkspur, CA.
On 12/30 I'm hoping to see my new favorite California Band: Achilles Wheel at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley.
On 12/29 I'll be at the Zero Reunion at Sweetwater in Mill Valley.

Happy New Year VLZone.....

>>>JRAD at da Cap

That's where I'll be as well. It's rare that I do anything on NYE, so I'm really looking forward to it.

That Bromberg show in Philly doesn't sound too shabby either. 10pm start time. Wonder How Late'll they Play Til? lol

Hey Treeflo!

I'll be in a similar boat, close to your shores.  I'll be down at my Mom's house with my 13 y.o. boy, hiking at least 4 of 5 days.  So, I may be celebrating NYE flat on my back.  cheeky

If the weather's nice, it would be cool to watch the final sunset of 2016 dip into the Pacific Ocean (I'm not necessarily planning to see the sun rise on 01/01/17).

I wouldn't be surprised if we just ate pizza and watched a movie.  Is there still a bowling alley, like Del Monte lanes?  Is that what it was called?  Or something entertaining at Cannery Row?  Maybe break-into Dennis the Menace Park?

Hey Timmy: When I was a kid, we used to get together with 4-5 families to essentially hold an annual "board game Olympics."  There were plenty of games and winners were tallied on a form by family to see who won an old Kiwanis trophy, which was brought back and passed on to the next winner each year.  Those were fun times.

I'll be watching this thread with interest...

Spending it with  same friends I have over the last twenty years, never go out NYE..Ranger game tonight, JRAD in Brooklyn tomorrow, and JRAD at the Cap on the 30th..

Going Phishing the 28th, 30th, and 31st for NYE Festivities!

On the 30th:
With girlfriend, train to Philly, Chinatown for eats, DSO at The Electric Factory, then a car and driver to take us back to the burbs in style! Sweet!!!!!!!!!

31st:
Hang at home with said gf, son, and his friend (girl but no gf) cook outside over fire pit, maybe watch Spinal Tap? Chill.

>>>>>>>On 12/29 I'll be at the Zero Reunion at Sweetwater in Mill Valley.

Sweet ! that will be Great !

That Zero reunion sounds great. Any idea of a lineup? Will there be a replacement for Martin Fierro?

Have a blast zoners! I'm working. Only time of year I can make big money.

X-mas will be paid for.

Thinking about Kamasi Washington at the b bowl but hotels be cra cra in the ny area

Re Zero Reunion.

Three weeks ago there was a mini-reunion of Zero at the Bobby Vega Bday Bash at Sweetwater.
It was simply the core-four; Steve, Bobby, Greg and Pete - with an opening go at "Catalina," that featured Martine Fiero's Daughter on vocals.
I cap'd a somewhat shakey (at first) vid of this but it was probably the weakest song of the mini-set in terms of "lift-off."  The rest of the set had that factor.

I don't expect any sax but I've heard a rumor that the trumpeter (who's name escapes me) from the earliest iteration of the band (that I first saw at the Blue Moon Saloon on Haight Street in 1986) may be there.

Kimock Site says this:
The show features co-founders Steve Kimock & Greg Anton with Bobby Vega, Pete Sears, and special guests that will include ZERO family.

I love Catalina (the song)

Nick The ( Greek ) Gravinites Occidental Union Hotel !!

The trumpet player that may show up at Zero is Hadi Al-Saadoon.....

Thanks for the video Treble. I'd love to see them tour. Here's hoping.

Well I was going to post that we are doing notadamnthing but now maybe an evening with Nick in Occidental may be in order...been awhile since Ive heard 'Six Weeks in Reno' , ' Four Floors or Fourty ' and all the other classic Nick G tunes....wish Zero were playing Sonoma instead of Marin...

MSG Phish

Heading to the Sweetwater for Kimock (NYE only)  Should be a good time, expecting Bobby to possibly sit in for a bit since he has no New Years show this year.

Hi SurJade.  I'll be working in Seattle.  Have fun with your family :)

If anyone hears of a spare NYE Kimock ticket please get in touch.

I have a pal from Orygun on the hunt for it.

Phish the 28th maybe the 29th, and JRAD 30th and 31st

I'm with Jelly Roll

Recovering from 12/30 Phish.

Hi DFlo!  I have tix for Kimock at Sweetwater.  Looking for CRB 30th or maybe trade my NYE tickets for CRB NYE.  Hope to see ya!

I might work after all. AM airport run for Da Boy's return west.

This place is running Noon-9p.

Do-able. And 9's better than 10.

Hmm.  Makes Mule a possibility.

Won free tix to the Lightning's NHL home game.

Takin' the GF and somebody else.

Happy 2017 kids!

The gf and I have a nice AirBnb in Carmel. Going to have dinner in Big Sur and then drink some wine.

    ^this.

    can't wait.

Friends from Maryland coming up and we are going to DSO @ Electric Factory, it is only 25 mins away and I have all their jam and cookies all bagged up and ready for delivery :).  I went last year and it was wonderful, they had fantasy type stiltwalkers cruisin thru the crowd  during the show and other dancers on side of stage. They were all in white and silver, shimmering and glittering everyone as they walked thru the masses. It was very cool, and this year the theme is "What a Long Strange Trip it's Been"...;)

There was also this really cool wishing tree, and you wrote your wishes and thoughts on a paper strip and then it was hung on the tree for new years.

    :)~

Hi Toreup- good to see you last week at the Luther show. Apparently you made it home ok. Good luck with your ticket swapping and hope to see you again friday.

Jay- thx for the hello from Seattle and the well wishes.

Mr Timpane~ its been real nice in Carmel lately (i live there) and an overnighter will almost certainly be a romantic getaway. You may want to reconsider the Big Sur drive & Dinner though. The single lane road there has been heinous lately, with tons of holiday tourists jamming the road. The restaurants are super expensive, crowded and food sucks for the most part. Carmel has some excellent restuarants: Luca, la Ballena, Dametra & Mundaka to name a few. I would suggest sticking to Carmel, at least near by, walking the beach, window shopping, dining, etc. and not getting your hackles up sitting in traffic all day for an overcrowded Big Sur experience. Just my 2 cents worth. However you roll- welcome & enjoy.

gotta work, but the "office" is sweetheart

Joe, I make water. Sorta colleagues, 24/7

    Hola, Jaz,

yes, most definitely colleagues, as the girls are always thirsty and they don't do well without it.

I used to clean used water, commercial waste water treatment,  so i know what your hours and days are all about.

It doesn't matter what the economy is doing, folks don't quit using water.

    Job security at its finest...

    I love Catalina (the song)

partly felt rob penned some songs for zero that could've easily been damn fine dead songs, that being one of them. alas, the anton crew did them justice.

the maritime hall show from november tenth two-thousand has a particularly good version of catalina.

Scrolling from the bottom up those stilt walkers were sort of freaking me out.

going to a private party in SoHum for NYE

    it's gonna be all-time smiley

     hi  G fish

    Oh Yeah STU!

    JRAD at the Cap smileyyes

Yeah, Joe. Crazy hours indeed but a lot of down time. This place is set up like a fire house sort of.

    do y'all got a pole?

Hey Toreup, I have 2 CRB NYE TXR that I may trade for 2 Kimock NYE Sweetwater. Email in profile.

    Yes

MrTimpane- my phriends post on FB this morning re:  Big Sur Traffic mess. Was followed by many other complaints.

I left River Inn and the girlfriends at 4:30 pm, and did not get home until 6:30. I cannot describe how terribly nuts it was out there, particularly at the entrance to Sycamore Canyon, and on both sides of the road WAY up and down, as well as the same cluster  **** at JPB. Enough is enough. No more advertising allowed, no more travel stories about this place. Take us off the map, please.

    just so i warned you....
