SpaceX manned flight

Forums:

Nine years after the last space shuttle flight, the US is finally sending people back into orbit this week with the new SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with Crew Dragon capsule on top:

Americans have been going back and forth to the International Space Station, but they had to hitch rides on Russian Soyuz capsules.

"the US is finally sending people back into orbit this week"

Technically it's not the U.S. doing this, unless you want to give them the credit because Elon couldn't survive without all of the government subsidies his companies receive.

This is pretty much the best thing goin on right now.

Not sure what you're looking at ?   Download the free app,,,  Heavens-Above
It will tell you what man made objects are floating around up there in real time.
The International Space Station ISS is visable all week for me, so I'll get to see the pre or post docking going on by NASA on Thursday morning. One of the coolest things we ever did as a family was view one of the shuttles tailing the ISS right before a docking. Beautiful summer nite, still gives me goosebumps.

This is gonna be fun.

>Technically it's not the U.S. doing this, unless you want to give them the credit because Elon couldn't survive without all of the government subsidies his companies receive<

you mean like the entire military industrial complex?

Poor Thom.

Thom, these are U.S. (NASA) trained astronauts. And "It is a demonstration of the new “taxi” service Nasa has agreed to buy from Musk’s firm."

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the U.S. is sending them.

Biggest of all, your president is planning to be at the launch. Do you think he'd be there if he couldn't then say, "We did this", or however he's going to put it.

Thom, aren't you going to help trump pin another metal on his own chest?

Muhammed Ali was the greatest

pig boy trump is the greatest loser of all time

and "thinking idiot " Thom?

Today's lift off. Sometime around 3:30pm est. Be worth being around a tv for this one.

Riding out at noon today

fun to dose and fly

Thumbs up.

One of these days some of you idiots might finally figure out that being against the progressive left isn't the same as supporting Donald Trump.

But I'm not holding my breath.  Simple thoughts are for simple minds.  I can't imagine how comforting it is to fit everything into neat little boxes.

And wasn't it Obama who curtailed manned space flight?  Or is that just my "right-wing nationalism" coming out again?

No thom, you are a WHITE NATIONALIST, not a “right-wing nationalist”.

Worlds of difference.

The least you could do is be a man and own your racism, rather than try to sneak/hide it onto others political perspectives by playing word salad.

Own it you fuck.

You fucking steaming pile of monkey shit.

Poor Thom.

He's against  progress.

Our last fleet of space vehicles, the space shuttle, had lived their expected lifespans. This new round of space vehicles was not supposed to be ready to fly till, now.  After our shuttle failures, this was supposed to take time to make things new and improved. Nothing political about it thommy, it's called precision engineering.  Take some pride being a US citizen in general, not in some bass akward trumponian asslick way.

Storms rolling thru I do not see this going up today

I Bet It Launches ~ Millions Around The World Are Watching.

If it was the old shuttle there would be no way in hell it would launch today. Maybe Musk does not value human life as much as NASA, from his Virus statements, this could be a possibility, $>life

Severe thunderstorms in the area (penny sized hail and 60 mph winds)

(you can see the satellite pic on the "Bertha" thread)

Respect for those BRAVE Astronauts.

Hey fabes yer thinkin old old school man, you gotta get with the future - Lightning makes it go faster

You’re not kidding rrg, they really are some exceptional human beings.

Scrubbed

Scrubbed fabes was right.

Try again Saturday.

I'll be watching. Love this stuff

Glad they scrubbed it...too dangerous today.

I was fortunate to see The 2011 Discovery launch from the viewing areas for the public.

I was down in Florida caring for My Mom after a big surgery

and when I saw the chance I had...

I packed up the car for solo tailgating and got a nice place to view..

Feeling the power of the blast was an amazing experience.

Scrubbed...

and Trump will be playing golf Saturday.

Why not launch a nuke to clear the storm?

So I hear they are named Bob and Doug, and they're about to Take Off .

Thom, I'm reposting this since you may not have seen it; please respond. I may be alone here, but I reject the idea that you won't take part in a respectful dialogue.

> Thom, these are U.S. (NASA) trained astronauts. And "It is a demonstration of the new “taxi” service NASA has agreed to buy from Musk’s firm."

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the U.S. is sending them.

Biggest of all, your president is planning to be at the launch. Do you think he'd be there if he couldn't then say, "We did this", or however he's going to put it.

My thoughts too, Sigmund.

I see a couple of Hoseheads up in here.

Not naming names..

Simply stated by my simple mind

that is a HELL of a price to pay tolerating (and yes therefore  supporting) that  _____ for _"being against the progressive left"

talking about neat little boxes ..

and name calling, you are up there friend

you stoop to my level and beyond (maybe I am half as condescending as you are.....)

you could respond to the dialogue request / suggestion

And perhaps use more nuanced responses (no, we all don't play that way, I can think of at least one of us that loves speaking in absolute and tossing countless insults..)

And not speak in such absolutes

Black?

white!

shades of gray.....

They don't call me skyjunk for nothing

So Thom are you really against privatization of government services so that free market can inject their bottom line efficiencies, or is this just some Elon Musk hate? I have to say I'm genuinely confused.

I will watch once the launch is successful. No need to see another Christa McAuliffe in real time.

They’re trying to get it up

They got it up. No Viagra needed. Lightning and storms were just far enough away to do it. But not by much.

Good. This country could use SOMETHING to be pleased about for a second.

Nice photo of the Space-X capsule coming in to dock at the International Space Station.

With all the trouble going on here on Planet Earth right now, those astronauts have the best seat in the house.

Thom,

I DO NEED TO STOP INSULTING PEOPLE - NO BUENO

your logic and the depth of your understanding simply blows my mind ( I assume that you can tie your own shoes...)

>>Elon couldn't survive without all of the government subsidies his companies receive.<< -

are you a  republican?  you seem to be unaware of the primary driving forces - The ultra rich making Trump their lapdog, ( threatening to withdraw the massive donations ) and the Republicans raping and pillaging as much as possible from the people.- hey lets give away money and lower taxes

your ideology and priorities ( as I perceive them )  are hard for me to follow

Republicans’ first instinct has remained the same: to go to the mat for the superrich. They’ve twisted relief bills to provide unrelated tax cuts and no-strings bailouts, shuttered the Senate amid a national health and economic crisis (though opened it long enough to strong-arm conservative judges onto the bench) and continued to float toxic ideas in an election year — say, making people give up some of their Social Security benefits in return for a financial lifeline today. If there’s an idea popular among conservative billionaires and nobody else, Republicans are probably pushing for it now.

on another note - beyond polarization and hate

That launch was truly amazing - many people in tears
