Spanish Beer ?

Forums:

Off to Spain on Friday, never been. Yes I know they are known for wine, which I intend to enjoy, but sometimes you just want a cold one with lunch. What do you recommend ?

estrella damm is the go to at most restaurants on tap - just got back this Sunday from Barcelona and Madrid....

enjoy

Estrella Damm is like Budweiser but actually good.  They were good in the Texas hill country heat last week.

To be honest, I just drank the fuck out of Cruzcampo, which was sold every where in glasses SUPER cold, which is my preferred way to drink a cheap beer. We did go to a small place that sold craft beer and tried a couple of things but can't say I enjoyed it more than quaffing a cold Cruzcampo.

Where are you going?

I was going to say that pale ale is not my thing  but will give it a try anyway. We land Saturday in Barcelona for 4 days then train to Madrid for 3, the train to Granada is not working so hired a driver to Granada with a few hours stop over in Toledo, 2 nights in Granada and back to Madrid for 1 at the airport and fly home. Been told that Barcelona was IT but figure if in Spain you have to see the Prado

if your gonna see the Prado, do one of the other nearby museums - i did the Thyssen and the Reina Sofia - the Prado is cool but its limited in the periods it covers - the Thyssen had a whole hell of a lot of Impressionists and more  ' modern ' time periods and the Reina Sofia had neary a whole floor of Picasso including the ' El Guernica ' ....we got a 3 museum pass that we could skip the lines for $37....

have a blast - if you want a good resturaunt to try in Madrid go to Arzabal Retiro - they have two, one at the Reina Sofia and one across the park near the museums, we went to the Retiro and it was AMAZING...

peace

Mike

We have passes for Prado and Reine Sofia, will check out the restaurant

cheers

Of those I have only been to Granada, it was very nice. After seeing the Alhambra one day, the next we climbed up through the Sacromonte up past the gypsy caves to the hippie caves.  Also fun wandering the streets and looking out and realizing that the ancient gate to the city was over yonder. We rented a car to return to Seville since the trains weren't running. Stopped in Ronda, which is built on plateau spanning an awesome gorge.  There is a nice plaza at the end of the Paseo de los Tristes in Granada where we ate a couple of times, way more chill than the main square.

"Una mas cerveza por favor"

Its been over 30 years since I have been to Spain.  I was in high school and took advantage of the lack of a drinking age.  Have fun (and post pictures).

I’ve never been to Spain

but I kind of like the music
