Another good one along the same lines is Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness by Itzhak Bentov.  He was a fascinating character that died in the May 25, 1979 American Airlines flight that crashed at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, still the deadliest single plane crash on U.S. soil.
